Politics In The Church: A Self Appraisal Of Nigerian Churches. by Nobody: 6:35am On Jun 20, 2015
Prior to the general elections, many individual especially from SW even some prominent men of God see it as a must to have one of theirs as number 2 citizen instead of a fellow Southerner occupying the number 1 position. Such sentiments may not have necessarily come but for internal hatred brought about by Propaganda. There are numerous evidences to this as even the subsidy they kicked against then is now a must for them now. The Ex-President visit to solicit for help from neighbouring countries they kicked against then is now something right to them now. It's evidently clear that some region definitely worked against GEJ in the name of being number 2 that has been relegated to 'non-existence' in some circles. I could still recall then when some church members took it upon themselves to be campaigning from church to church for their number 2 man who is their member to be voted for. Many call GEJ all sorts of name because he's from another denomination/region. With the exception of Bishop David Oyedepo (and few other men of God in the SW) who openly supported GEJ, there was this great animosity among many men of God in the SW to fight GEJ even from their pulpit. Some (no television advocate among others) even went ahead to blackmail his visit to their churches for a reason best known to them. Today, the story has changed and many still give this false hope of one of their members being the President someday (a point the north view with double thought). Believe me, if anything should happen to His Excellency today (God forbid), the north will not accept what happened in 2010. All I pray for is the peace and unity of Nigeria. We should all work for it through our actions and inactions. May God bless the church and bless Nigeria. Please pardon me if I offended you or your church (denomination) or region in any way through this write up. I'm sorry. God bless us all.

Op, don't mind those criminals parading as men of God. Later thesame criminals will head to that region they criticsize to extort money from them in the form of seeds, tithes to build University in their SW region, then they'll come back and preach one nigeria

When you have people like that as your fellow country men, do you wonder why the nation is backward?

at times, it's better not to speak than to spew this kind of nonsense. RCCG gave her pulpit to GEJ, what else do you want that church to do for a man who had the opportunity to deliver this nation as a church goer but allowed the wages of unrighteousness to veil his conscience?

as for Deeper Life, you'll be surprised to discover that the church doesn't even encourage her members to go into Politics. this church can't allow any one to use her as a means for political campaign. if Kumuyi had allowed GEJ to campaign on her pulpit, his members would have revolted against him because he has not taught them so. I'm talking about a church that almost placed their GS, Kumuyi on discipline because his son to them didn't Wed in line with the church's tradition.

I never mentioned the name of any church bro. Everyone knows the hypocracy by majority of the members. I've a friend who is a pastor in one of the churches you mentioned. He carried politics on his head campaigning for a candidate. Guess you've also seen a thread on why one of the churches you mentioned stopped her members from watching "devils box" but do now today. What has changed over time? Paul will socitly state it in the Bible that what he's saying is not of God but his own. It's time we search the scripture too to verify any doctrine we have any doubt of. Indoctrination is not good for us all. If the church leaves politics aside and we'll all suffer for it. Thanks and God bless.

For how long would nigerians continue to marry religion and tribe with politics? Many of us desire to see our country develop but we are unwilling to do what those developed nations did to overcome poverty and achieve prosperity. One of such things was the relegation of religion , traditions and cultural practices to the back side of their national policy making. There cannot be a shortcut to national development except through deliberate planning and implementation of good policies. Finally, progress of a nation does not come by prayers and wishful thinking.
