The universe is very small but because we human usually think we are big for our mind , we think the universe is so big .... But when you look from a plane or Helicopter , you would see how so small like baby cockroaches we human beings are and our deemed tallest skycrappers not to talk of our two storey building that will resemble anthills ...... little ants will also think the whole world end in her hole or Nigeria is borderless.

Exploring our galaxy in a thousand year time is possible in fact such feast may be achievable next year grin .... it depends strongly on effort of research and development in evolving tools that can Cruise successfully the different bodies in the galaxy in their different conditions. ....... I am always scared whenever I think we mankind will wake up one bigger trouble from the space one day maybe Animal or something out of this world that mankind as never seen before

Personally, I don't think the universe is infinite to an advanced Intelligence ..... The earth was once infinite to some folks sometimes ago.

Some larger forces can contract or expand our universe ...... we human are merely trying ..... Billions of events yet to be discovered.
If Isaac newton had this thought process we would be having this chat with scrolls. grin grin grin

I always think like your kidbro too when I was young .... I heard the earth is revolving and rotating and I asked myself why is our house still at her present location ..... I got to discovered through placing sand in a bowl then use a paper as our house placed in a section of the bowl then I rotate and revolve the bowl only to discover that my paper is still at her position alongside other properties but they are all rotating concurrently and proportionally thus Abuja won't be found in Lagos vice versa. grin ..... simple si.lly .........

everything in our galaxy revolve , thus the DSTV keep facing her satellite since they are revolving together.
Let me make it more interesting,
He has agreed that the earth is moving and we are moving with it, that means the DSTV dish is moving with it. How come we still get the signal?
Remember simple explanations, really really simple explanations. wink

My field is chemistry. Though I just finished my first degree in it.
My flair is space technology. I recently saw this movie, interstellar, and there were some things I didn't really understand in it.

Like the relation of time and speed. Something called time dilation. Two astronauts went to a planet closer to the blackhole and when they returned, they discovered that they had gone for 23 years whereas they only spent few hours on the planet. I don't know how possible is this. Pls I need a layman explanation on this.

I am everything chemistry. I love talking about how it affects our everyday lives. I also love its application, from classroom to the industry. My area is pharmaceutical, food and environmental chemistry. I do more of research. Lets get talking...

Very correct.... Applied mathematics concerns all facets of human discipline.... Theoretical mathematics is more streamline to science and social sciences....
great mathematicians

you are very correct. Mathematics is the study of quantities, patterns, and the relationship between them. My definition, of course. smiley

I don't know if this would be permitted here.I just want to ask this question:
Why are most philosophers atheist? For instance Bertrand Russell,Socrates and Confucius.

lol the idea was to transport water from one point to another. . .tho the mechanics of these two are different i would vouch the water pump is more efficient. . . the water wheel would need a channel running all through the land to be irrigated so its water can move along, but the pump just needs a longer pipe
Exactly but i would have thought someone would at least improve on the designs of the water wheeel and make it much more better..

Socrates wasn't an Atheist... He Just wasn't around to witness organised Religion....

To answer your question Why most Philosophers aligns themselves to Atheism is because Religion blocks your mind from rational and rigorous thinking and a Philosopher can't afford that. So in order to think rigorously and critically, you must jettison Religion... I am not saying great thinkers cannot exist even with them being religious, NO NO NO, at least Soren Keikegarrd and Hegel were great believers yet they made great footprint in Philosophy..

Just that depending on your sphere in Philosophy you might likely drop Religion for you to be renowned... Political Philosophy, Epistemology and Cosmology might likely lead you to Atheism....

We borrowed the idea mechanism in water wheels to make pumps... i think Dams too can be classified improved versions of water wheels. . . So the technology is still pretty much in use

If the answer to everything is God did it, why bother being a philosopher?

Okay now I understand.Only some branches of Philosophy brings about the inclination to atheism.

I'm not studying or intending to study philosophy;don't get it twisted.I'm only a curious mind.

My question was borne out of the fact that most philosophers do strongly negate anything involving God.And secondly,I do come across their wisdom quotes.

The famous philosopher of Alexandria, Hypatia said:

Fables should be taught as fables
Myths as myths
and miracles as poetic fancies.
To teach superstition as truth is horrifying
the mind of the child accepts it and only through great pain or perhaps tragedy can he be free of it.
men would fight for superstition as quick as for the living truth-
even more so,
since superstition is intangible, You can't get at it to refute it but truth is a point of view and so is changeable.

I stand to disagree with u on this. I think the way we act can affect some stuff in our DNA by switching on/off of some genes....and there are some findings about silencer signals that re transferred 4rm somatic to sex cells b4 reproduction. Epigenetics explains it all.

So saying dat it is not possible isn't correct......
I'll welcome more facts from u
Thanks
yes, but not so such a large extent as he described. One cannot write the entire DNA and make his child smarter just by 'acting smart'
right?

how the dstv gets signals?
We have to find a simple and fun way to explain electromagnetism.
Try telling him that there are some types of light he and you cannot see.cheesy
he will ask, how do you know its there?
Then you will tell him about tesla's experiments. How he used his brilliant mind to find that light.
Then tell us his next question. smiley

The last time man landed on the moon was over 40 years ago.....can anyone explain why we haven't gone back since then considering the advancement in technology?
because, the moon landing was a hoax tongue

lets spice this up a little.
Two friends were fishing in a river. The first friend

the best reason is the question the guy asked?

why after 40 yrs of advancement in technology, we havent been able to make it back?

actually, i'm just reading through the posts....

ok, i saw ur points. Vaĺid!

But lets tackle those theories here for all to learn (including me)
I believe we can make it to the moon now, but then....

waiting for them, the first unmanned craft to the moon was in 1957 by Russia. . . Man had the technological capability then to send a craft to the moon and again there was a space race between america and Russia that triggered rush in the need for scientific feat accomplishments

A dam is natural of course, i still believe that we could still produce improved and more mobile versions with more work efficiency than the pumping machine , talk about a moving pumping machine...
