Did Jesus come to bring peace or not?

Matthew 10:34; Luke 2:14; 22:36 and Mark 9:50; John 14:27; 16:33; Acts 10:36

No Peace:

"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household" (Matthew 10:34-36).

"Suppose that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three" (Luke 12:51,52).

"Then said He to them, But now, he that has a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that has no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one" (Luke 22:36).

Peace:

"Salt is good: but if the salt has lost his saltiness, wherewith will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another" (Mark 9:50).

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you: not as the world gives, give I to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27).

"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).

"The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (He is Lord of all)" (Acts 10:36).

In Him, we have peace to the extent of our faith, after the measure of that He had in the Father. In the world(Including unsaved family members), we have division and variance just as He had with his brothers, the Pharisees, Sadducees etc

yes, He came for peace but he gave us will so we can make choice.
somewhere in the bible: He said life and death have i given to you but i will like you to choose life...
He had to justify all His acts so that none will blame the father.

Why freewill?
are you asking me why God gave us Jesus for discerning within our self the best path to take?
if this is your question then it is because he doesn't want us to perish because we were created of His image....
do you know why Jonah was running away to tarsha when God sent him to Ninive?
Because he is merciful ... so if he prophesy to them and they repent, God wont hurt them because they are given the freewill for cordial reconciliation... that is what every father want from his son.

Jonah 4:1 But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry. 4:2 And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil. 4:3 Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live. 4:4 Then said the LORD, Doest thou well to be angry? 4:5 So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city. 4:6 And the LORD God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd. 4:7 But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered. 4:8 And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live. 4:9 And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death. 4:10 Then said the LORD, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night: 4:11 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

i hope it satisfies you question?

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household (Matthew 10:34-36) and (Luke 12:51,52).
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you: not as the world gives, give I to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27)
"Salt is good: but if the salt has lost his saltiness, wherewith will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another" (Mark 9:50).

.
He was saying that when some members of a family believe in him, and some don't, it will cause division of loyalty between them.
...The gospel initially put a sword between brothers in Africa. The gospel is presently putting a sword between families in the north, when some turn to Christ.

In order words, Christ is saying that he'll bring peace into the core of individuals, but this will turn people against the individual, and even that person against others. You can see this happening a lot in the religious section even between fellow christians

So he goes further to say that peace is like salt. It is called peace because it is peaceful. You can't call a troublesome person peaceful even if he is full of the Holy Spirit.
Therefore though the tendency of being a christian tends to put you on a war path with everything and everyone, you should try to stir up the part of you that whispers "shalom". Calm the storm around you with peace.

Suggested answers:

Context is the key to Jesus' words. In Matthew 10:34, Jesus is speaking about the divisions that will come, even among family members, over their belief or lack of belief about Him. In that respect, He has come to bring division. This context is also related in Luke 12:51.

Luke 22:36 Jesus is preparing the disciples for His departure. He is telling them that they will need to provide for themselves and even protect themselves. Up to that time, everything they had needed had been provided. But, after the crucifixion and ascension, they would again be "on their own." They would need to work, provide for their families, and, if need be, protect their own; hence, the mention of the sword. Of course, the Bible teaches that Christians are to be peaceful, loving, and forgiving; however, it also teaches that we are not required to sit idly by when persecuted unrighteously.

The rest of the "peace" verses, teach just that: peace.

Jesus did not contradict Himself. When we look at His words in context, we can see what He was saying and that there is no contradiction at all.

because love isn't to be imposed on anyone. if it is, then its not love.

he gave us freewill because we are like gods that know good and evil, so we have to choose our path, whether to follow life(JESUS) or death (SATAN). GOD forces us to do nothing.
