Just like I asserted weeks ago, Cech would need a strong supporting cast to win the League or any major title at the Emirate.

I get that many of you guys are obviously and rightfully upset and disappointed about our legendary goalkeeper moving to Arsenal, but here's my view on this transfer.

Cech is great. I completely agree, but he could be as useful as Ospina for them. He's on a huge weekly salary (£100k per week) which will hold Wenger back and will make them sign one less top player in order to keep the wage bill as low as possible and probably make a profit by the end of the year.

On the other hand, we have Courtois who earns less than £50k a week. (there's an article on Telegraph.co.uk that has listed the top 10 highest paid GKs, the least paid of those 10 is Sirigu who earns £50k per week, and Courtois is not in that list). Anyway, we can sign one more top player worthy of paying him £100k a week, who could actually be useful, and not just sit on the bench for most of the season like Cech.

So, what`s good for Arsenal in this?

They can't improve much more in my opinion. They still have an average defence and Wenger can't establish a top class defensive line. He's not good in defensive tactics and we have seen how Cech, as a world class 'keeper, can be vulnerable when the manager has almost no defensive awareness (ie in AVB's time with us).

In fact, in this era, especially in the English Premier League, it's the central defenders, side defenders and defensive midfielders who do the most to keep the team from conceding goals, not the goalkeepers. eventually, some opposition players or balls go through and that would be the goalkeeper's job to save them, but it has been proven to me as a Chelsea fan time and time again that when we have a solid defence line, the opposition has only one or two shots on goal (sometimes even none).

We have had a solid defensive line with Mourinho, Ancelotti, Di Matteo etc... and we had no major problem with the defensive work and our dear Petr Cech. But in AVB's half season we saw that even Cech can't save us from our defensive misery.

I'm not trying to bash Wenger in here but honestly, Wenger is an experienced version of Villas Boas. He uses the zonal marking and the high defensive line tactics. in all fairness, Wenger sets his team to play a very nice attacking football just like AVB, and he's good at spotting the talent and signing them on cheap, again just like AVB (Mata, Romeu, Cahill).

But seriously, they both are useless when it comes to defensive tactics. There are coaches out there who use the zonal marking and high defensive line tactics as they are meant to be (Guardiola, Klopp,...) but honestly Wenger and AVB can't use these tactics properly. They just mess it up. They either don't have the right players or they don't know how to teach the players to play that way. So in my opinion, Wenger is the real defensive problem of Arsenal and they can't get so much better with only signing Cech.

As far as I can remember, in past few years, Arsenal goalkeepers have not been that terrible as some people say. They didn't cost them points or matches too many times. Instead, it's their defenders who usually mess it up and who can blame them when they haven't had a good defensive midfielder to cover them and a coach who can fix their problems!

So for me, Cech doesn't add too much to Arsenal. Yes he's better than all of their goalkeepers in the past ten years or so, but he can't fix their defensive problems on his own. If he was sold to Guardiola's Barcelona a few years back, he could make a big difference as Victor Valdez had many howlers every season. But he can't make a big difference at Arsenal or 'gift them the league title' as some people say. . By the way, £11m for Cech is a fair price as he was on the last year of his contract. Remember Xabi Alonso was sold to Bayern for only €5 or €6 million ... anyway, I will always respect and love Petr Cech... see the bright side people! Peace.
