Normally i would have ignored such behavior on the excuse that the workload on their staff was much that day or they were all under pressure but unfortunately their reason for their bad attitude was to my hearing. This is what happened.

I walked into the Visafone office on Adeniran Ogunsanya in Surulere, Lagos state to purchase an accessory which even though is still under warranty i didn't want to be delayed by the normal submission of purchase receipt and the rest before the item could be replaced. So i walked in and greeted generally ("Good Afternoon" ). i noticed that only the police officer in uniform sitting opposite the door responded while the 3 customer service agents seated just by the door all didn't respond. I never bothered reading meaning to it because that wasn't the reason i went there in the first place so i walked up to the counted and inquired if the accessory was available. To be greatest surprise all 3 customer service ladies pretended they didn't hear me and all ignored me. I stood there for nothing less than 3 minutes until a young man from the inner office came to attend to me, he directed me to meet another guy in the inner room, as a was going in, i overheard one of the ladies (the one in the middle saying) "He want us to attend to him when he didn't greet us."

I was so furious at that statement. first of all, i greeted when i entered which only the police man in uniform acknowledged. Secondly, it is not even my right in anyway as a customer to first greet, the reverse is actually the case. over a decade in business has thought me that even a toddler who is a customer or prospect must be highly respected so why is the rule for Visafone's agents different?

The unfortunate thing is that we have at least six of their phone we use as official lines and all of them are very active lines so it is not like they are doing me i favor. I am actually directly or indirectly paying each of those rude ladies salaries as my continuous patronage of their company means they still have a job.

I have written their office a letter through enquiry@visafone.com.ng i hope they get to read it and call all their staff across the nation to order. This was the same arrogant behavior their sister company (Zenith Bank) put up initially until the likes of GT Bank, Diamond Bank and First Bank showed them how to treat a customer.

This was the same nasty and arrogant attitude the likes of Celtel, Starcomms, Multilinks, Intercellular and Mobitel put up until they all folded up.

I pray the maagement of Visafone puts her employees to order. Every single customer is king, well at least that's the foundation i use to run my company and sink down the mind and thoughts of each employee. So the scenario of an employee being rude to any customer or prospects can't just be imagined except such employee has gotten another job elsewhere.

PLEASE SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE ABOUT OTHER RUDE STAFF OF CORPORATE COMPANIES.

Ah Visaphone!

I can never forget my experience at their opebi or VI office-can't remember which cos this was 2009.

I remember i wanted to get their internet service.

A lady i met there was wonderfully polite-but the guy handling internet issues... Gosh! The arrogance alone-you need to have seen it.

From that year, i vowed never to use VISA phone or their internet package to date. They might be good, but whenever i think of them, that arrogant guy's face comes to my mind.

NaLaugh:

I live, work and own a business in the U.S. As far as i know, there is no legislation which expressly dictates "courtesy" interactions between employee and customer. Employee protection laws exist, but do not apply in this case. Customer protection laws exist, but have nothing to do with courtesy - just the right to get/demand the product/service you have paid/agreed upon.

Of course, harrasment laws would limit certain actions, and litigation is the order of the day here, so people have to behave or be sued.

That said, quality customer service is the biggest focus of most businesses because as i mentioned earlier, the free market takes care of itself.
Nigeria still has a long road ahead before customer service becomes a priority, but consumers have a major role to play in demanding the quality service they deserve.

It's simple, if you visit Iya Basira on your lunch break, and she treats you like shite, don't return. Soon enough she'll be replaced by someone who can retain customers by being a courteous human being.

You are right, no such laws exist in U.S. (or any developed country that I know of). It's the free market that forces companies to treat customers like Kings.
But this is not really about Visafone. I think we are generally rude to each other in Nigeria.

the only thing i could read is that you are a visafone staff. No matter what the other side of the story is, poor customers service is unacceptable.
If you have ever been abroad, u would understand better. But here excellent customers service is unimaginable... that's why you could shamelessly make such a comment.

Op u no lie at all,had similar experience at the sales office of Turkish Airlines at the airport, this Igbo lady was so rude ehn,she was actively rude to most customers that they and u had think she was doing them a favor by selling them airtickets and the funniest thing is that she was putting on earpiece and listening to loud music, been flying Turkish Airlines for years but I have decided to switch else where cos the way she attended to meand some other clients that day was so bad...

Most businesses plus companies in naija are usually of the opinion that they are doing you a favor, imagine when most ppl decide to keep their money at home or most ppl decide to buy foreign products and the funniest thing is that after this ppl are sacked they will come here to Nairaland and keep on screaming I didn't do anything without knowing ppl like the op and other customers hv reported their silly assess

Nigerian business do not know the value of a customer that is why most of them end up folding up after a short time in business.

To be honest in fairness too everybody why leave a customer waiting for 3 minutes over trivial matters like greeting haba fah.

Whatever happened to, Welcome Sir. How may I be of service?

Sometimes people may be stressed out and greeting is last thing bothering them. I never said greeting is not important o.

Am merely saying a business can be transacted nothwithstanding.

I used to be a serious customer of visafone, the only one using it in my family until the phone had a problem, I took it to their major office in my state, they didn't have anyone to repair it; they wanted to send it to another state!

This is a company that doesn't have marketing team, I had to go to their office anytime I wanted to recharge.

Finally am back to Etisalat. cool

OP, I understand you perfectly well. That same reason was why I dumped them and chose to use Swift for internet services. Their CSAs at Saka Tinubu are always behaving as if you are trying to woo them; when you go there, smile and greet them, they put up this kind of 'wetin dey worry this one' kind of attitude that annoy me. If I were in your shoes and I heard them spew that trash, I'd have started the fight right there and then, God help anyone that talks back.

@op, I perfectly understood your plight in this regard, as a customer service personnel I sincerely say sorry on their behalf not all of us are bad sir. Many of them don't really know customer is a king and the reason for their job is because of customers. Until companies in Nigeria know that customer service is a career not just ordinary job and should not be treated as business as usual we will not move forward. Sometimes when I'm attending to customers wat come out of them is thank God I'm talking to a man they feel free expressing their problems to me. The problem with most companies is that they only want to impress you by putting a fine and pretty lady in their help desk forgotten that 90% of customers are not interested in whatever person that attend to them wat matters to customers is how their problems will be resolve in the shortest period of time.
@op, once again, sorry for inconvenience.
Have a nice day sir.

i have used visafone data for 4 years .before then, i tried two gsm networks and yes, i prefer cdma services more than gsm services when it comes to data because they hardly ever have downtimes.

as for customer service, well i just walk into their office and meet a customer service agent and simply make my request .Even if they smile or dont smile as long as they get my data up and running ,i am okay.so far so good.

But most of the girls for Zenith bank and Visafone fine sha make i no lie. grin OP no vex. e get as person dey approach fine girls ...act like you no notice them...lol. trust me it works magic.

Same experience, same office 2011 or 2012. In fact, a former University mate I've not seen in years was there and she was among the culprits, I don't even think she cared to recognize me.

I promptly contacted a top Visafone person through my a friend and I believe they called all of them to order. The Visafone top gun pleaded with me to name the ex-school mate, I initially decline but under much pressure and her assurance the staff would not be laid off, I obliged. She was still there as at '13 but I've dumped them when for no fault of mine, I couldn't use nearly 5GB data til its validity expired as they had a mast failure in my hood, all they offered was, 'Sorry for the inconvenience"

Are you simply hurt She didn't acknowledge you? Tut tut!

@OP
You disappoint me a lot.
How can you stand in front of a 'less busy' CS officer for 1 minute and he/she did't attend to you and you didn't register your displeasure for the manager to come and call them to order immediately.
You even overheard them and didn't even respond
The truth is that your complain to the head office may be baseless because you may not be able to identified those involved and there are no concrete fact or record of incident to take up the case with them.

I met one ugly old short and witty lady at CAC Enugu office and I couldn't help but wonder if she knew she was working in a public office or in her matrimonial home, that's if she was even married. People who have gone to do business in CAC Enugu office should have noticed her rude attitude to customers to the commission.

She is really hostile, talks rubbish and never puts a welcoming smile on her face. Her responses to customers inquiry would rather leave you angered and confused. I will soon find out her names and post it here.

First bank works hard in training their staff within and outside the country. They do not tolerate nonsense .They have gone as far as sending what they call "mystery shoppers"

This mystery shoppers are actually either staff from other branches or from independent organizations who have cameras put on their shirt buttons or a part that is not obvious, they then pose as normal customers.Dare u be caught been rude or not answering questions on products as u are expected to, your name will become" I WAS ONCE A STAFF"

Funny enough, i have had the same issue with visaphone .zenith bank staff are rude and arrogant,i doubt if they are being cautioned or whether the bank sends its staff for training

First of all, mystery shopping is not a new thing in the banking industry at all.

Secondly, going by what the OP wrote, the ladies were totally wrong and deserve to be punished.

Thirdly, most customers lie A LOT. It has happened to me b4. I felt very bad.

As they srenghten thier staff on excellent customer service, organizations should also put in place policies that prevent the abuse of staff. At a point in our lives, we have been service providers n customers.

Treat ppl the way u wanna be treated.

My dear ,theres no bone of contention here neither is anyone arguing we are simply stating our experiences and observations.

As to whether ms is a new thing or not is not the point of discussion here, okay? What ever the case, zenith bank an visaphone staff are certainly not handled or trained like others banks'staff.

All banks are aware of aggressive, rude and impatient attitude from customers hence the trainings as well as warnings and disciplinary actions from them.

policies or not the only thing now that differentiate all banks is one thing "SERVICE".
