The next sensible thing to do is control immigration of non EU citizens.

Let's face the fact there are many people who go to the UK on student visas , just keep playing the system and not leave. I know Pakistan colleges in the UK where they will just keep enrolling you as a student so you keep extending the visa but do not attend class and just work.

I know a nepalese guy who we started as students together in 2006. He is still on student visa now 2015 and working most of the time.

If you attend a top university in the UK you have no problem getting getting job with a company who can sponsor you. The problem is we all flock the cheap low ranked schools and expect to get the best jobs when we finish. How will that work?

Look at Nigerians that studies in the UK in the 70s and 80s. Oxford, Cambridge, Manchester etc. Look now, London met, east London university etc.

Any logical government will only want the best to stay behind so they are doing what they have to do.

Australia and Canada need people now so their rules are slightly lax. Once the number rises to a certain point they will also tighten their immigration laws. It's logical and simple demand and supply.

100 likes. Although Canada and Australia have both introduced something called express entry and expression of interest respectively, both are like gambling. PR was almost automatic in both countries as at 2years ago...but now, they are slowly towing the UK path. One advantage is that both countries still give foreign students a chance of working for 1-3 years after graduation, something the UK abolished 3 years ago.

Please can someone point out how many UK schools are there and compare the prices to other top schools in other countries. Nigerians take your money somewhere else leave that useless country they call UK.

I counted 11 out of 100 or 29 out of 200. That is over 10%. That's actually good. The US is the only country with a higher number of university than the UK on that list.

International students pay 3X what home students pay. It is already very difficult to remain in the UK legally after studying in the UK. Well i am sure other countries and their Universities would not mind taking the revenue international student tuition brings, because i doubt anyone would want to pay all that only to be kicked out as soon as he/she finishes.

Uk is getting leaner and meaner.... . At least Canada and US is another good option.

I knew this was coming, the number of weddings between Nigerian students and EU nationals is alarming, it was only a matter of time before Cameron with his anti immigration policies clamp down on this.

Surviving in England without work will be very very difficult, its difficult as it is on just 20 hrs of work a week, i dont even want to imagine what it will be without none...I will advice any one thinking of studying in UK to have a serious rethink. Canada and Australia presents better proposition in my opinion..

If they increase their fees won't there be an effect on the number of citizens that actually go to uni? Add the fact that they're turning maintenance grants into loans. With countries like Germany offering free education, it's quite conceivable that more UK students would move towards cheaper or free options.

The unis benefit from the international students not only financially, but also the wealth of research that takes place. And I don't know if it qualifies as uncontrolled immigration with all the rules they already apply. There are studies that say that the skilled migrants actually contribute to the economy. In my opinion they're just looking for people to blame.

Don't see it purely as a matter of settlement, valuable work experience is an issue here. If international undergrad students spend 45000 GBP in a UK school the least they can get is valuable work experience that'll improve their employability when they return.

Of course not. The point is that those lowly rated schools in the US or UK or probably most Westn nations have standard of education compared to ours.

Sad it has come to this state,well it's blessing in disguise for nigeria has it will minimally curb the effect of brain drain.At this point in time the nigerian government should use this as an opportunity to revamp the education sector and sanitize it as augean stables.

The northern Nigerians too would just disappear back to Nigeria after submitting their projects. Some won't even return for graduation ceremony. Too much money.

The bolded is so true. Instead of going to lowly ranked schools in UK, except for professional courses like nursing, radiography, physiotherapy and so on, better stay in 9ja. If you attend Oxbridge, University of London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Warwick, Durham, Imperial College and so on, your chances are still bright. It seems we have really fallen behind since the 50s to 80s.

A guy criticised me for applying to one of top universities many years back. He said "how you go dey put your hand where your hand no reach?" Even without knowing my academic pedigree.

I was surprised to hear that. We were told in 9ja those days that if you pass your GCE with top grades, you can walk into any university in the world. That was always my belief. And I was admitted. A long course too.

We need to be more ambitious like 60 to 20 years back.
