The Chinese Bamboo Tree: A Lesson On Persistence!

The Chinese bamboo tree is a rare tree. It's not like every other, conventional tree. It's unique and belongs to a class of its own. What makes it unique?

You take a little seed, plant it, water it, and fertilise it for one whole year, and NOTHING happens.

The same process must be carried out for the second whole year. And still NOTHING happens.

The same process must be carried out the third year. Despite all the tender attention and care, NOTHING still happens. What a discouraging, almost futile, experience. The same thing must be done to this seed the FOURTH year, and NOTHING still happens.

And then at the FIFTH year, the miracle happens. The Chinese bamboo tree grows NINETY FEET in 6 weeks. That's the miracle. All the while the farmer was tending and caring and fertilising this seed, it was simply growing and sprawling wide and deep beneath the surface- all in preparation for the sudden growth the tree will experience in the 5th years. So is the case with most of life's endeavours.

Sometimes we become so discouraged after making repeated efforts at a project, relationship, business, career, etc, and we simply give up because there's almost nothing to show forth. In life, we can't go far without persistence and perseverance. We need to keep trying. Nothing can take the place of persistence. Prayer won't take it. Talent won't replace it. To succeed, we must be persistent in our pursuit of our carefully decided goals and target.

Even vision cannot take the place of perseverance. Despite all our lofty and noble goals and dreams, they simply remain dreams without perseverance.

So this morning, just continue doing that desired goal. Keep at it. The snail made it to Noah's ark because of perseverance. Don't be discouraged. That business might just be building latent strength. Don give up!
