Why Plot To Unseat Ekweremadu Will Fail- Rep by neolboy(op): 9:06am On Jul 14, 2015

A member of the House of Representatives, representing Amuwo- Odofin Federal Constituency, Hon. Oghene Egoh has dismissed plots to remove Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, saying such would fail. Speaking with Daily Sun at the weekend, he hinged this on the fact that the Saraki/Ekweremadu leadership was a popular decision among Senators.
According to him, contrary to the wishes of certain interests outside the National Assembly, Senators and members resolved to elect leaders without towing to the wishes of vested interests.
Egoh dismissed insinuations that the leadership of the Senate and House of Representatives are unpopular, stressing that lawmakers in favor of the present leadership out-number those against them.
According to the lawmaker, who was the former spokesman of the defunct National Republican Convention in Lagos State, this was the major reason other tricks were been employed to remove Ekweremadu.
“The battle of who becomes the senate president or deputy senate president is a battle they have lost. They don’t have the figure to remove Ekweremadu,” he declared. Continuing, the lawmaker tasked the APC to quickly find a way of resolving the National Assembly crisis, insisting that it’s party affair.
He hinged this on the fact that it would not be in Nigerians’ interest. Assembly to get to stuck due a crisis occasioned by personal interest of members of a party.
“I only hope they will be able to settle their problem because the National Assembly is a body that is maintained at heavy expense to both tax payers and income of the country.
“The National Assembly is a government on its own. For a tier that is supposed to support the presidency not to be able to take decisions that will benefit the country is unfortunate. “President Buhari is there, but he needs the support of the National Assembly to advise him and also do oversight functions, Anything that would prevent the National Assembly from carrying out those functions, Nigerians should condemn,” he stressed.
On the part of the PDP, he stated that the party was already adjusting to the role of an opposition to party as fast it could in all remifications. “When you look at the PDP, we are already playing the role of an effective opposition if recent events at the national Assembly is anything to go by. “Anybody under-rating the PDP now is deceiving himself or herself because the PDP lawmakers played a major role in ensuring those who lead the National Assembly, which is a major statement,” he concluded.
