Nothing wrong with their demand tho, but what is the effect of such a wage increase on general economic index, macro and micro? Truly, herein lies the challenge of governance, people just wake up and make populist proposals to get cheap fame, without highlighting the ups and downs of their proposal for careful review by the prudent minded! How is a government that has been struggling to meet up with 18k min expected to meet a 50k budget, with a fall in oil prices, a deflated currency, strke actions everywhere? Do civil servants take their work seriously? Are they willing to put in longer hours? How much do their offices generate? This is where we need to start from! |

T33jay007:I dey tell U! allanphash7:The issue is not about govt self, itz about how Nigerians repress their average living on the news of wage increment. @T33jay07 have said it. Hehehe, another harder time for Nigerians... There was never a time Nigerians have increment in minimum wage that the suffering of the average man didnt go to another extreme... I wish we can fight for higher STANDARD of living rather than the higher COST of living imposed on ourselves by every untimely increment in wages... At the end of the day, the money doesnt add up as a result of corresponding inflation. Candybob:You nailed it. |

Born2eatPussy:1.It is amusing that you are insuinating that a worker's demand for rights is an example of ''bad things''....whereas if your hero GEJ had really transformed the country as you people kept on telling us....they would have not been making this demand. 2.Peaceful country? Thanks to your hero GEJ letting Boko fester....we now have a serious problem on our hands. 3.Let us wait and see if the govt raises the minimum wage or not. 4.If they can't....time we diversified the economy and got off oil. |

46k? Are u seriously, serious! o boy this is just too much, they should understand that this pay will kill our currency both in local and international market cos it will be much money in circulation and also revaluation of naira, they should understand that this idea will make food, gas, rent daily need in general to increase, they should understand that most private sector won't be able to pay or increase and they will lay off their workers, unemployment rate will increase too...there is so much demerits behind this idea, this our leader sha, do they think before the act? |

This is not the REAL deal. The real deal is the alignment of the civil servants salary with those of political office holders. QED! |

Lovechyld101:That is technically $3 daily if you are earning N18,000 ,/if such a person has mouths to feed and bills to pay, he may not have more than $0.5 disposable income for him/herself daily. The idea that some of our fellow Nigerians are earning N18,000 monthly should infuriate all of us, we have senators who do nothing who earn ridiculous amounts yearly. |
| Re: Civil Servants Demand N46, 000 Minimum Wage by sweetgala(m): 9:43am On Jul 16, 2015 |
T33jay007:You mean a fair pay would lead to inflation, what we need to do is curtail our waste and cut the wages and allowance political staff who earn ridiculous amounts. How can you expect a man to survive on N18,000 monthly, that is meant to cover shelter, nutrition, transport, upkeep of family members, health care over a 30 day period. And even worse many of these people have not been payed over 4 months. Ofcause crime would be high, fraud and corruption would be high in the service and many people would be willing to turn the blind eye for compensation within the service. Anyone who insinuates that they don't work hard shoukd query their souls , "how much work would you do for 18000 ! , in a nation where there is no medical welfare, tertiary education in government universities cost a fortune. How is a civil servant on 18000 going to ever be able to send his children to school, or offer a better future for his kids. The best he can offer is far less than what his parents offered him. |
| Re: Civil Servants Demand N46, 000 Minimum Wage by sweetgala(m): 9:57am On Jul 16, 2015 |
Candybob:Is 18,000 naira a fair wage for 30 days work or is it suitable as a living allowance ? , can a single person survive on 18,000 let alone cater for a family and send the kids to school ,buy their books and cloth them appropriately. The country belongs to it's people , there has been too much insensitive rhetoric from the middle class, and working class members of our society what can a person aspire to with a wage of N18000, such a person is destined to die in penury if he/she follows the honest road. Militants in the ND and area boys earn more than that. A thief can earn more than that, fraudsters can earn more than that, where is the fair compensation for working hard. And you act surprised when their daughters become prostitutes and their sons hoodlums. I can't blame runs girls or theifs in Nigeria, if your father earns 18000 monthly and you through some grace find yourself in university how can he send you living allowance out of his meager earnings, while there are people who unfairly earn much more while wouldn't you dispossess them of their unfair gains There would come a time when the poor would have no choice but to kill the rich. |
