Once Saved Is Always Saved... True Or Not? by Musicminista(op): 9:35am On Jul 19, 2015
The issue of "Once saved always saved" has caused controversy for decades and people still differ about it. I personally have my own opinion about it after in depth research into the issue but I feel it is necessary to throw this question open to everyone to share their views or understanding in "Love".

NOTE: Please this is for enlightenment not to spite ourselves and it will be helpful if you dont just tell us your opinion but give us proof from the scriptures thanks!

U re trying to tell us that when a person becomes a Christian, he can never lose his salvation. I disagree because pple see it as a license to sin.. read 1john2 vs 4.. There's a part in d Bible dat says if ur leg will lead u to sin, cut it off.............. some preachers understood it as "if anything will make u lose ur salvation"..

Matthew 10:22: "...he that endureth to the end shall be saved." The implication is that someone who does not stands firm to the end will not be saved.

John 15:6: "If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers

This topic has been so over-flogged it is a broken record. Ofcourse "once saved always saved" is a false doctrine.

Here are some of the scriptures that show that salvation can be lost and that "Once saved always saved" doctrine is unscriptural.

1Timothy 4v1 - Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times SOME SHALL DEPART FROM THE FAITH, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.

This wasn't just Paul talking; this was Paul saying what the Holy Spirit told him; that some will depart from the faith in the last days.

An unbeliever cannot depart from the faith because he was never in the faith. Only someone who once believed in Christ and no longer does, can be said to have departed from the faith.

And to depart from the faith is to lose the salvation. We are saved by grace through faith (Eph 2v8). To depart from the faith through which we are saved by grace is to lose the salvation. We can't depart from the faith and keep the salvation.

So if faith can be departed from, according to the Spirit; then salvation can be lost. Proving that, Once saved is not automatic "always saved".

Another verse.

Revelation 3v5 -He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in whote raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before His angels.

This was Jesus talking; and He wasn't talking to unbelievers. He was talking to christians.

He said that believers who overcome, He will not blot out their names from the book of life. Meaning that christians who don't overcome (or keep the faith) will have their names blotted out.

This proves two things.

One; that being a christian and a member of the body of Christ does not automatically mean one will end an overcomer. Otherwise Jesus would not be telling them; "He that overcometh.."

And two; that christians who don't overcome will have their names blotted out of the book of life, which is the same thing as losing eternal life.

So if names written in the book of life can be blotted out; it means that eternal life and salvation can be lost by someone who once had it. Proving that; Once saved is not automatic "always saved".

Another verse;

Romans 11v22 -Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be CUT OFF.

This was Paul writing to the gentile believers, warning them not to be highminded and carefree about their salvation. That if they do not continue in God's goodness by staying in the faith ...they also shall be cut off.

Meaning that the scenario of being cut off from Christ is not an impossibility. A christian can let carnality and carefree-ness degenerate into unbelief and departure from the faith. And when that happens, that christian shall be cut off from Christ.

And when one is cut off from Christ, he is no more saved. Proving again that salvation can be lost; and Once saved is not automatic "always saved".

These are some of the scriptures that disprove "Once saved always saved" doctrine and show that:

1. A christian can depart from the faith

2. Names written in the book of life can be blotted out.

3. Someone once grafted into Christ can be cut off from Him.

If all these scenarios were impossible or can never happen; scriptures will not warn us of them.

This shows in no ambiguous terms and clarity that salvation can be lost. That "Once saved always saved" doctrine is false.

Shalom.

Re: Once Saved Is Always Saved... True Or Not? by Nobody:
Let me drop my controversial thought about the topic.

What do you mean by being saved.
***** It is not answering alter calls because I did it several times after evaluating my life after previous exercise.
***** It is not going to the church on Sundays and attending weekly activities.
***** It is not Reading the bible daily and accumulating quotes from the bible as regards to issues of life.

All the above are necessary for being saved but they are not the things that saved us. They are but instruments to make us enjoy our salvation.

What then is it that saved us?

* Jesus is the first instrument of our salvation.

Our faith in Christ Jesus gives us the permission to be saved.

Faith itself is not a static attribute that when you receive it, you always have it. Faith is continuous and it only end when we are saved.

To some people, the end of their faith is their death. They are only saved when they die. I am not talking about being murdered or premature death. Faith is a continuous attribute so the level of faith you have at the time of your death determines you hierarchy in heaven (Quoting Jesus on John the Baptist being the least in the Kingdom)

But if the end of your faith is here on earth, that means you are saved here on earth and you will remain saved for life. At this level, you are not moved by anything and you shall reign in the earth. You do not see your life as yours but Gods. You are above the deception of the world and the pleasures of sin.
This what once saved always saved means.

But If you use it to refer to some one who had answered alter call before as being once saved always saved, it might be a deception from the devil.

The scripture said those that believed in Him He gave power to become sons of God. Many people mis-interprete the word power in that context. In my understanding, the power herewith means permission. God has given us the permission to become sons of God.

How then do we become sons of God.
On the pentecost day, peter listed what is required of you to become sons of God.

1 REPENT
2 BE CONVERTED
3 BE BAPTIZED
4 THEN YOU SHALL RECEIVE THE HOLLY SPIRIT

you are to continue walking with the Holy Spirit who shall teach you daily all you have to do through the Scriptures, The Church, The People around you and the environment you dwell.

Stay saved by the power of the Holy Spirit.
