The way Nigerians would impeach Buhari if he dares it would be legendary.

Human Rights Watch wrote to Obama ahead of President Buhari’s visit to the U.S asking him to discuss violence and corruption in Nigeria and make Buhari endorse gay rights.

In a letter dated July 15, 2015 signed by its Executive Director, Kenneth Roth, the international rights organization said, "In a country where LGBT rights were already under threat, the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Law, which President Jonathan ratified in January 2014, has entrenched discrimination even further. The new law criminalizes public displays of affection between same-sex couples and penalizes organizations advocating for the rights of LGBT people. The law could inhibit the right to health by criminalizing outreach to LGBT groups. The vaguely worded law contradicts Nigeria’s Constitution, as well as its obligations under regional and international human rights treaties, including the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Given the high priority your administration has assigned to LGBT issues, we urge you to call on Buhari to repeal the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition)"

RN Readers, just for gist sake, what would you do if Buhari actually implemented gay rights?

So? Why are a few Nairalanders who probably have not seen beyond their noses assume that they are experts in international relations?

Why are they commenting about Gay rights only? The article did mention corruption and violence as well so why?

You don't want Gay rights established claiming it's ungodly, and it's against African tradition.

But The God you know and the Bible and Quran you read is from them, imported

The phones, cars, pleasures, TV etc is from them

If you are so African-ny then go back to stone age, palm clothing and spear hunting

Quote to insult me Mr and Mrs Perfect, I'll knock you down

That said, I don't think Buhari would approve Gay rights but I just hate when people try to condemn other people, being Gay is not what you learn it's inbuilt it's psychological. But more importantly they are not less human then you all are

I liked your post not because am gay but I think most blacks Nigerian in particular leaves what is important to chase illusion and vanity. Come to think of it, we claim to be very righteous yet we swim in corruption, greed and all those vices which made us less of a human than the evil called America with their gay right issues. So to me Africa better learn to either accept their true identity or remain quiet. If anybody chose to be gay so be it.

Nigeria as a country has enough problems and difficulties at this time. And will not, never fall for additional problems and confusions. Gay right is a no no and never ever. Obama will be tagged a demon to bring such up for this staggering and troubled nation.

Most APC and Buhari apologists hardly read anything. They are so gullible, uninformed, and disgustingly myopic.

Nobody is stopping anybody from being Gay. Just don't seek our endorsement.

If not endorsing Gaysm is anti human rights, what would you call the imposition of Gaysm on the majority of the populace?

If the Majority of Africans are not willing to toe the line of the Americans, why not let it be.

Your head is good jare, I ain't gay either even though bytchys and awsholes labeled me as one and even threatened to roast me based on my comment about the US County clerk who chose to resign instead of signing a marriage licence for newlywed gay

If Bible was our Constitution it's another thing, Besides since the beginning of the world there's been gays and homosexuals back when God was still hot head, he destroyed them, The same God realized he was too harsh and sent Jesus to die for us, an act of love and guilt maybe

My point? being gay is not something people just started copying, it's been in vogue since the time of old testament , Older than Jesus Christ, I say it's time to let them have peace and accepting who they are,

That's what Jesus would do, be compassionate with them so if you claim a Christian and you condemn people for their sexual orientation your sitting on a long thing

My point is that if someone decide to be gay, he or she should be accepted in the society as much as he or she do not go against the social norms in the society. There should not be open legislation against it.

I got your point. We are almost saying the same thing.

But in most cases, the legislation against the LGBT community is necessitated by their clamour for our endorsement.

Let them live their lives, and not wait for others to certify same.

I like the phrase you used ("as much as he or she do not go against the social norms in the society"wink Glad you did. So do you believe or can you point to any evidence that OPEN DISPLAY of homosexuality or same sex marriage is the "social norm" in Nigeria??

What about Africa as a whole or the Middle East or Indonesia, Asia or Eastern Europe, Russia etc?? are homosexuality, same-sex marriage and trans genders the social norm or publicly accepted?

Because of how powerful the Western media is, they want to paint the picture (to convince people like you) that it is not socially abnormal & shouldn't be restricted, whereas even in the America itself there were states that had banned it by public vote of state residents. Even in America MILLIONS don't want it and I'm talking from my experience living there

With all due respect, In your attempt to be "diplomatic" or "fair" people like you end up leading nations and societies into deep wells of perversion

I'm glad your type of mindset in regards to homosexuality is limited to online comments etc. May God never ever give us in Nigeria lawmakers or presidents who will use their mandates to LEGALLY usher in this degrading atrocity into our society. Regards

Maybe I used the wrong phrase. It should have been social vices such as corruption and greed. They are greater trouble to our development than any other thing.

hinwazaka:
This is a reminder for all the fans of our new found partnership with Obama's America
Obama's greatest hits
* The stimulus didn't stimulate
Obama was elected in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis and his first big act in office was to sign a gargantuan package of stimulus spending financed entirely with debt that was supposed to jump start the economy. After congress voted it into law, the money which was meant for shovel ready projects failed to yield fruit
* Obamacare brouhaha
When obama care was passed people were assured it would provide insurance for 32 million people who didn't have coverage. Years on it has covered far fewer people than expected, a poor number between 10% and 20% of what was promised
* Lack of a realistic immigration policy
He failed to draft a realistic immigration plan and only ended up annoying the right, left and centre
* The fall of the Iraq quest
He was so determined to shore up Goodwill he prematurely withdrew their forces, and completely ignored the terrorist threat which was emerging. The price of that mistake was the establishment of ISIS
* The joke of the Arab spring
After the Arab toppling of long time dictators, Obama refused to act fast and stagnated on Egypt with the result of everyone in Egypt now hating him and the military dictator now aligning with Russia in a show of insult to America
* He has made America irrelevant
Due to his lethargic and indecisive nature he has thrown the global respect for America out of the window
Let's not forget the Benghazi issue, the downplaying of Boko Haram, the Russia/ Ukraine issue, the Syrian/US congress- US executive standoff and also the historical congress lockdown . Its quite obvious that both Obama and Buhari have a lot in common and so this is a marriage made in heaven. Happy married life to the couple

Maybe you did. Nevertheless, something that is detrimental is detrimental. A society/community should address ALL issues not just the ones that are seen as "bigger" or "greater". Would you say government shouldn't address the issue of child marriage or desert encroachment or illegal immigrants simply because corruption & greed are bigger? Hope not
