tonychristopher:Bro, their is no reason why fuel should not sell at the official pump price of N87/L across the country. Because the government already bear the cost. see the breakdown... On the product’s distribution margin, retailers get N4.6; transporters, N2.99; dealers, N1.75; bridging fund, N5.85; marine transport average, N0.15; and admin charge, N0.15; making a subtotal margin of N15.49. The subsidy above is the local content on top the actual landing cost. |

IBROHIM:dats rather shallow from u. If I may ask wat specifically did pmb do to 'gradually fight d corruption ' like u said. We shouldn't be jubilating cos subsidy prices will vary all year long we r nt paying trillions ryt now is because oil prices hasn't gone up yet. So wat u r jubilating for isn't buhari's making rather its d world oil price. Wit dis kind of ur mentality we will continue being gullible in dis country |

Firefire:What I found ludicrous about people's argument on the past govt is that people just want to believe those in govt then didnt do anything with intention to improve people's lot. Every information is disputed and regarded as lies. Even when that govt was trying to pass an important information, such information is disregarded with a wave of hand. We were told there was never a subsidy; subsidy was a scam and Prof Tam David West came and even told us how it is possible to sell pms for N40 per litre without subsidy. President Buhari if I remember well even told us he doesn't understand the word 'subsidy'. Fastracked into 2months into the life of the same govt now, they want us to believe they are paying over N1b per day on subsidy payment. Now while I am not objecting to the fact that GEJ govt might have been reckless and exaggerated some of the figures given, I ask from a moral point of view: Can we trust a people who have denied subsidy existed but now want us to believe they are paying so much billions for the same subsidy? Is it that they never new that subsidy existed or they simply exploited it for personal gain? If we say they didn't know, can we really trust their future judgement on issue of fundamental nature to the life of our nation when they who had been in govt at various time in the past could make such miscalculation? If it is said that they knew but hid the figure away from us to win election, does it mean in future they can hide important information too from us, exploit figures to gain political advantage over our welfare? Can they really be said to have our interest at heart or they are just people who seek political power for personal gain? I honestly hate people who feed me lies. APC have shown their penchant for lies and propaganda and I m always sceptical they can turn the fortune of this country around. Nothing built on falsehood can stand. Time will tell and I pray I am proven wrong. |

tete7000:Thank you, I remember vividly they protested against it vehemently in Lagos ‘ACN’ and in some selected states. Instigating the masses against the government. Buhari himself mentioned he does not understand what fuel subsidy means. 'Fuel subsidy is a fraud by the past government... etc... Honestly, I don’t know how far APC will continue to live on lies, I expected them to swallow their pride, tender unreserved apologies to Nigerians for their past lies and propaganda and let us face the reality of government. Until then, their past lies and propaganda will continue to hunt them. God help Nigeria! |

You dullards. Jonathan paid more for subsidy because the money he was paying then was more than what the current administration is paying. If you recall at that time fuel was 60 naira per liter. Illiterates everywhere |

Firefire:nice postulation and submission but do you agree with me that subsidy isn't the best way to head...I will want us to agree that we have to allow market forces determine the end price this will bring competition or unless you want me to believe that competitions isn't good. I have been buying 100 naira since few months ago and I live in Lagos so why cry subsidy left for me ..yank it off the only solution is let the government hands off downstream sector and just regulate the activities thats how economy is beign ran |

Abugab:excellent submission, definitely subsidies will be with us for the time being untill we can put our acts together by fixing our refineries and encourage private investors in refining our crude oil. All I think the govt need to do in the interim is to block the lickages by making sure the subsidy really gets to the people that are targeted. As for some people who think they will keep insulting the president @ every slightest opportunity, I bought fuel for 450 |

tonychristopher:May be you don’t know, I am one of those clamoring for subsidy removal because it has overstayed its welcomes. If we can stop subsidizing US Dollars, by allowing the market forces to determine the exchange rate which in turn is now increasing our foreign reserve, I see no reason why we should not remove the fraudulent fuel subsidy. What is the gain of the purported subsidy when Nigerians could still not get the product at the subsidized rate of N87/L? |

tete7000:You have a genuine reason for your fears and I share in some of the sentiments too. A lot of stuffs were bungled up by the last administration that you wouldn't blame much if one argued there was nothing like subsidy because there was almost zero transparency in its executions. Even when some where found to be shortchanging the system, the government of the day did not demonstrate a will to bring them to book but instead they looked to be shielding them from real scrutiny. I still suggest this administration is given time to sort out the real issues with subsidy and other aspect of the economy that is yet to kickstart. When they are finally out with their policy direction then we can begin to ask these hard questions. It would have really been very poor judgement for Buhari to just come in and the first thing he will do is stop subsidy without taking time to look into the merits or demerits just like he did with the service chiefs. So cool down, suffily suffily catchee monkey according to the honorable Obahiagbon. |

tete7000:Nothing is as ludicrous as the ways and manners the Dr GEJ managed the subsidy regime. There were obvious facts and figures that confirmed that though a certain sum was being payed for subsidy, the figures were criminally exagerated and all the suspects of oil subsidy scam were the same people who finance GEJ campaign. Not even one of them was prosecuted even in the face of glaring evidence. The problem is not whether thEre is subsidy or not,but whether such amount was the exact amount. Lets assume that 1.69b naira is spent every day for subsidy, which I believe is exagerated, in a year we would have spent only just about 600billion naira, which is a far cry from #1•3TR mr jonathan spent on subsidy from 2010 year in year out. GMB is no messiah but we trust his sincerity untill he proves otherwise. We trusted Dr GEJ as well until we couldnt trust him any longer. Nigerians are very understanding only if our leaders are sincere with us. |

PrinceMario:The higher the amount per barrel in the int. market, the higher the amount needed to subsidise, thats the simplest explanation as to why the above scenario happened. |

coolbis:One thing you don't seem to see is that subsidy itself is a function of the crude price. Whatever you have is at a time t. It can change from time t to time t+1, depending on whether there is increase or decrease in the price of crude. If you remember there was actually a time it was reduced from N97 to N87 because crude price crashed in the international market and we were no longer incurring subsidy at that time. The role APC played in ensuring the reduction and appropriateness or inappropriateness of that reduction in a regulated market is actually an argument for another day. Back to my argument, if there is direct variation between price of crude and the price of pms, don't you think that should the price hits like $120 per barrel of crude that even this govt can incur over N1tr on subsidy as we will be paying double of what we are paying now as subsidy? The cost of subsidy we have now is just at like crude price averaging $60 per barrel. This will change depending on the dynamics of the crude market. On that note until this govt finds itself in that shoe we really might be unable to judge whether GEJ was totally wrong with that figure around the time when crude was selling at over $100 per barrel. It is this same issue that makes it difficult to precisely and accurately capture subsidy in the budget as the cost will always fluctuate depending on what happens in the international crude market. |

coolbis:The OP you replied, tried to explain in two or three comments above, yet some of you pretend not to understand. In 2010/2011 crude oil was almost $100 per barrel and the pump price was N65. Go and recalculate the cost of subsidy on PMS using these variables. ![]() |
