Where Jamb Got It Wrong And Better Suggestions.... by hyzich(op): 1:32pm On Jul 23, 2015
Hi nairalanders, i'm sure we are all aware about the jamb admission eligibility saga and the protest by the students.. I think jamb did the right thing and it is in the best interest of the applicants who applied to the affected universities, seriously you can't expect unilorin to admit all the 100,000 applicants that applied whereas there are institutions who have less than their capacity. Therefore, jamb saw the reason for them to redistribute the students who they think will not be admitted for that academic session to institution where they stand a better chance, for example let's assume that 5000students apply for accounting in unilag and they can admit only 500 students. Meanwhile, all the students scored above 200,30% scored between 200and 249, 50% scored above 250 while remaining 20% scored above 270. It is clear that those that score 250 might not stand the chance of being admitted let alone those between 200 and 249 but there are other institutions that can admit them because of the low number of applicants that applied. unilag will just use them as source of revenue(lol)..

I think jamb got it wrong by not informing the applicants and the public before taking such decision.

Also jamb did not inform the affected universities before they start the sale of post utme form..

My suggestion for jamb is to reverse their decision for this academic session and create awareness on this new policy against subsequents academic session.
Why can't jamb put a limit (like 30,000) to the number of applicants choosing a particular institution rather than sitting and allowing a particular institution to have more than 50,000applicants, knowing fully well that the capacity is less than 20,000 or,

This one may sound funny but it still makes sense though, maybe applicants should write the exams without choosing any institution and when the results are out, it should be sent to all universities for them to fix their cut-off for the respective courses they offer, however, the 200 cut-off should still be maintained...
Last suggestion, FG should just scrap it and allow universities to conduct their entry exams.... :p

N.B. You are free to add yours and criticize mine. You can also correct my mistakes.... I'm here to learn.... AIB

jamb should be scrapped, jamb is not in the right position to set exams, it should play the role of nafdac as a case study in the educational sector. Simple

Wow... I'm 3rd to comment for the first time... Dancing shoki.. grin cheesy...
Anyways I think your proposal is possible to an extent.. but I doubt if jamb score actually measures someone's intelligence... Take my case for example... I wrote jamb thrice b4 gaining admission tho I went to a polytechnic. ND guess what, my lowest jamb score got me the admission... Even the 2nd best student in my department was last on d admission list...

The entry of universities is supposed to be on merit i don't see any reason for Jamb to stay, it should be given the post of supervison and not examination setting, NAFDAC is not a pharmaceutical company on its own but it does the job of regulation which is what JAMB should be doing, jamb should not have business in conducting exam. Thanks i will find time to open a thread stating that 'jamb should be scrapped.
