The author did not factor-in the huge debt that these states have incurred of which they willingly signed ISPOs for their accounts to be deducted at source. States have taken all manner of debt to finance their bogus projects which can be likened to modern day Tower of Babel. Osun State in particular experimented with all manner of debt financing; bonds, Sukuk, bank loan, Rivers State loan, Bourdillon loan etc to finance questionable projects like roads to no where, Ifa worshipers' pilgrimage to Cuba, Buhari elections and so on. How on earth would these states now be expected to drink their Fura de Nunu and still have it? 1 Like |

"Now we are all in trouble as crude prices plummet to US$40 per barrel next year." I have warned you several times that oil will soon become useless, some rained insults on me,check those comments on my previous posts. Oil will be sold for $10/barrel. |

had the state governors harkened to the advice of Madam Ngozi, we wouldn't be in this mess. it was only Obi the ex Gov. of Anambra state who listened and saved for the rainy day. that's why it's appears only Lagos, Anambra and a few other state are somewhat immune to this unending finanacial crisis. I'm particularly impressed with the Govt. of Anambra state. 1 Like |

nijanigga: Once crude oil no longer yields enough revenues to Nigeria, Arewa Islamic republic shall emerge. Sorry, Oduduwa Republic may be first to emerge, followed by Arewa and others. Oi price slump and Boko violence may be natural ways God wants to use to resolve the unclean, forced and unworkable marriage of northern and southern protectorates of Great Britain in West Africa, a marriage that has been violently consuming millions of its offspring. |

He who comes to Equity must come with clean hands, we talk about Jonathan, yet are quick to forget the mess Obasanjo who is parading now as an elder statesman a la advisor and consultant, caused this country, 16bn dollars!!, spent on Power projects, yet nothing was achieved! What happened to the fund?? The Ajaokuta steel mill is there rotting away, after millions of dollars were pumped in. Nigeria ranks amongst the top 15 countries that produces fresh tomatoes, yet we do not have a single tomato processing plant in this country. Our over dependency on oil and corruption is killing us as a country. The state government needs to seriously think outside the box, this sign was there, yet the prefer to go cap in hand to Abuja, for their monthly pocket money. 1 Like |

/ Oil is below $50/barrel again. There is going to be a lot of pain financially. Nigerians better buckle up for imminent hardship. Of course, a lot of jobs will go in the Oil & Gas sector. Shell will offload 6500. But that's not enough. At least about 100k jobs total in the oil sector need to go to protect the oil companies' bottomlines if oil stays below $50/barrel for a month. Save your money! / |

This article is on point. But it is saying what we already know. Nigeria needs to set economic goals and meet them or the next generation will bear the brunt. |

Is either Nairaland is now a forum of Nigerian Chaff minds or Kids. In that case, this forum its gradually losing what made it popular. Back then, we would have seen strong analogies from Nigerians home and Abroad, but today all u see when an importantt topic llike this come up is dafts booking space they will never use, or saying nonsense or out of topic. Now the truth is that, for Nigeria to develop, 2 things must be done, if not we are just wasting our time. Buhari can't do any magic. By 2019, every thing will even be worst, Unless this 2 things are done. 1. true federalism, states with natural reourses, can develop their resourses and send certain % of fund to federal..... yl other resources shared with different %. 2. Economic power must go to States and/or regions and Autonomous LGA's while federal Govt should retain, military, police for now, CBN, Foriegn affairs. some tetiarry institutions and tetiary Hospitals as symbols of our National pride, With this, in 10yrs, the story of Nigeria will be a proud one. 1 Like |

asha80: You are right, but The ruling class know this, but because of some selfish reasons and the amount of loot easily gain in abuja, they have refused to makè changes. And until these changes are made, Nigeria will not move an inch in terms of real development. It is close to imposible for Nigeria to attain any meaningful and sustainable growth with our present skewed system. We can keep decieving our selves..... |

If u are too dull not to understand this brief article then I pity your parents who wasted so much money on your education. This write up has only condemned the military and PDP governments,at the centre for16-year, right from Obasanjo to Jonathan for cheating the States and Local Governments. It is up to them to stand up and monitor the sharing formula as well as try to brace up, stop being lazy, think about generating revenues on their own. What concerns PMB with the past 16 yrs rulings of PDP?, you are rightly biased and mentally derailed, you seriously need to seek the attention of a psychiatrist doctor. Semi illiterate oaf. wo1F: |
