Cartel /noun: a group of seperate companies that agree to increase profits by fixing prices and not competing with each other
This is an economic ,not a security affair. The best way of handling such a issue was that which was used by the previous administration. And this is by breaking the Barriers to entry into a monopolistic market. By increasing the numbers of marketers in such a market. This would lead to alteration of the accepted rules of the market and in the long run force prices down. The hard way is not the only way
If you are talking of things like goods that do not amount to the economic security of the country yes.

Petrol refers to the economic security of Nigeria. It is not just an economic crime at this point, it relates to national security.

1. Isn't it ironic that what the DSS claimed to have went in for suddenly changed? Why didn't they tell the whole world the 'National Security' issues that necessitated the search? Was the search about bullet proof cars or national security issues as was claimed? The bullet proof cars was the most insane cover up ever, and as usual, the gullible ones fell for it hook, line and sinker. I am still waiting for the DSS to provide evidence of the national security issues that warranted storming Dasuki's residence, until then, it was a clear case of witch hunt. Ownership of bullet proof cars does not equate to threatening national security. Even kids of the super rich drive those cars in Abuja.

You do know you need a special permit to use a bullet proof car in Nigeria?

No, the EFCC is not the only body charged with investigating financial crimes. Even the police has a fraud unit. By law, the DSS is empowered to investigate any crime that can compromise the internal security of the country.
The fraud unit of the police after discovering any financial impropriety would handover the case to the EFCC for forensic investigations because they are more equipped and are mandated by law to handle all financial crimes. Its the courts role to interpret what justifies as a crime against the security of the state but the role of the DSS to identify it.

2. The DPR also has an investigative arm. The FBI and the DSS have different functions. Stop using an American agency like the FBI to give credence to what the DSS did. The FBI has a more far reach than the DSS. As far as we know, the DPR didn't deem the marketers as threatening national security for the DSS to have intervened. What simply happened was a clear case of the President bypassing the DPR to order his brother in the DSS, whom he trusts, to carry out the functions of the DPR.

3. This boy...escorting electoral materials doesn't give them the authority to 'see it all through'. Is arresting electoral frauds and cheats a job for the DSS? What then is the job of the Police? The DSS has no job with these arrests. Does an electoral offence equate to threatening national security? Na wa ooo! Remember when the APC went to court to ask the courts to stop the FG from using the Army and the DSS for election purposes? They did that because it is not the responsibility of the DSS. And didn't the court grant them their prayers? Why then is it suddenly right to use them as arresting officers. It is wrong in all ramifications. Stop trying to justify it.

4. Young man...go and read up on the roles and responsibilities of the DSS. So, based on your own reasoning, if a burglar enters my house, the DSS can also visit the scene of the crime? Or, if there is a hit and run? Since they 'can visit any crime scene'.

Kai! Mynd44 cheesy cheesy
1. No one said anyone cannot drive a bulletproof car, you must have a licence to do so. Is that so difficult? You want to. The cars are just something the found. You want to know why they were there, ask the judge that gave then the warrant to search the house

2 As far as you know the DPR did not consider the actions of the DSS as a national security one but the DSS did right? Has the DPR come out to complain about jurisdictions?

3. The court granted their prayers right? But was the army and DSS used during the elections or not?

4. Dude the DSS can use their discretion to decide which case to take and which not to take. A bank robbery is statutorily a police case but the DSS can decide to take it up from the police if they want or if it forms part of a larger investigations.

I am not in the mood for philistinism this morning

1. Dasuki's case was one bordering on National security and they went with a warrant. It was during the search they discovered the cars. You might know (I don't think you know anyway) that to own a bulletproof car, you must have been cleared by all National security agencies including the DSS. So they were well within their constraints

2. Still Dasuki. They found on him high powered rifles which no one would have issued licence for. What is that, national security or what?

3. When oil marketers went on strike, the country was all but shut down. I think it is fair if we call our energy sector a national security one. In the USA, the FBI are called in issues of Economics that might threaten internal security or a cartel purposely hiking prices

4. Stop being a clown. When the DSS was used to escort electoral materials, you did not know you were also going to have them involved all through?

5. This is hilarious. The DSS can actually go into any crime scene they want and it is then their choice on whether to intervene or not. No arrests were made and they left them to their issues.

Take that advice for yourself. The DSS went there with a warrant to search the premises on issues of national security. They got there and discovered the rest.

It is like the police going to conduct a search for illegal guns and finding illicit drugs.

Very weak and lame attempt at justifying the reasons the DSS sought to impede the works of the police, the EFCC etc when they should be gathering intelligence on boko haram. The DSS with its attempt at looking the other way gave boko haram the impetus to bomb the NE at will. We can all see the results of the inefficiency that has plagued DSS since Buhari took over.

[size=13pt]Is it even conceivable that a National Security Adviser would not be granted a license to drive a bulletproof car? Does it make any sense?

Are we going to start questioning why the president himself is driving a bulletproof or bombproof car WITHOUT a license?

Who issues the license?

And why have they not charge him to court for being in possession of unauthorized items?

What is the status of the case now?

Has he successfully 'blackmailed' them by threatening to expose their 'involvements' in the insurgency or they really didn't find anything on him?

My point exactly. I am all for truth and accountability. If Dasuki has been found to have diverted monies meant for weapons and allowances of our soldiers, by all means haul him to Guatanamo Bay if possible. If the DSS had showed receipts and evidence of transactions that pointed to the fact that he used those monies for personal gain, I will sing their praises to the heavens.

When the news broke, and a friend of mine was screaming witch hunt, I told the friend to relax, that the DSS might be trying to get account of how we budgeted trillions for defence and our soldiers are still complaining of weapons and salaries.

And then I saw bullet proof cars being paraded...I hissed! Permit or not, if bullet proof cars are the reason they went after him, as they want us to believe, then am afraid they have nothing on him. Dasuki is a prince, he has money. He made a lot of money during IBB's regime. The man can afford hundred of those cars.

Dasuki as a former military man ans NSA is very well informed about the workings of the DSS, there are so many things behind the scenes that the DSS and Dasuki are not saying.

The DSS's role is strictly limited to national security and nothing more. It can not be involved in economic or financial crimes
There is an agency assigned that duty(EFCC). It also has to be seen as been fair in the conduct of its duties. But unfortunately it appears to be keenly interested in matters that involve only the PDP. There are security situations in all parts of the nation so, one would expect the a national spread of its campaign, but alas it is only after PDP members or those that are rumoured to be affiliated with the PDP. We have to realise that when process is flouted, disorder and abuse will carry the day

I guess you didnt read the part where the PDP staff invited the DSS to interfer in its crisis against Metuh and NWC:

http://dailyindependentnig.com/2015/08/im-open-dss-probe-metuh-tells-pdp-staff/

When it borders state or national security, DSS is mandated to act. For instance, if someone gets robbed as a citizen or his office gets robbed, this is police business, but if the president's son gets robbed or let's say APC or PDP office gets robbed, this is high profile and DSS is mandated to act immediately, especially if there is reason to believe that this is connected to a larger scheme that affects or may affect national security. In the case of Dasuki, DSS believed he was part of a scheme to hamper the war against insurgency and destabilize national security etc, many of the issues raised by Barcanista are actually pointless to generate serious attention
