The governorship candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in Rivers State, Tonye Princewill, has accused Governor Rotimi Amaechi of selling the state’s assets to an indigenous oil company, Sahara Energy, and using the fund that accrued from the sale to finance the activities of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

PREMIUM TIMES recently reported how assets such as Olympia Hotel, Abonemma Wharf, Risonpalm and the power generating stations in the state were sold to Sahara Energy.

Mr. Princewill alleged that the over $800 million realized from the sale of the assets was never lodged into the coffers of the state government.
“Money changed hands but the accounts they entered were not necessarily Rivers state government’s officially operated accounts,” he said.
He also alleged that there is no evidence of competitive tendering, independent valuation or a transparency in the entire process, arguing that the “Rivers people cannot be sure they got a good deal”.

This same Amaechi who we all know as a product of the PDP,has been in the PDP for all most his political career before APC.Amaechi left PDP two years ago when his relationship with the then federal government went sour and suddenly became corrupt. Now here comes my question does it mean that the PDP never found out that Amaechi was corrupt all those while, or does it mean that Amaechi who was a saint under the PDP suddenly became corrupt under the APC.From my understanding WIke has been a political boy to Amaechi before he was nominated for a ministerial appointment by this same Amaechi. when Wike got to Abuja he saw a bigger Oga and became loyal to him or her (as the case be may be). Wike became a sophisticated and a dangerous political weapon in the hands of this bigger Oga against Amaechi who he/she was having a rough relationship with. I am not say saying Amaechi did not steal from Rivers state but 95% of the stealing was done under the PDP but it was unfortunate that the the PDP did not notice it then till when he left them.

But is was a fact that Amaechi was one of those financing the APC and that even the then APC presidential candidate was cruising on a private jet owned by Amaechi who was the a Governor of Rivers, what he never bother asking then was how a sitting Governor what able to that huge amount of money and to own the jet he was cruising since he is a hater of corruption and will always fight it, PDP and APC sounds like the same to me.

In like manner, the PDP recounted the illegal disbursement of N2 billion agricultural loan, non-execution of the contract for the construction of the Justice Adolphus Karibi-Whyte Specialist Hospital, after the payment of the sum of $39,200,000, illegal withdrawal of N96 billion from the Rivers State Reserve Fund, illegal sale of Omuku, Afam, Eleme and Trans-Amadi Gas Turbines, as well as the sale of Olympia Hotel.

The PDP also recounted the fraudulent practices surrounding the mono-rail and other phony projects abandoned in the state, after billions of naira were reportedly paid to ghost contractors by the former governor.

The party recalled how under the state Chairman of the APC, Mr. Davies Ikanya, when he held sway as Commissioner for Special Duties, billions of naira earmarked for the rehabilitation of Rivers indigenes, who were deported from a neighbouring country to the state was mismanaged, an incident that led to him being disgraced from office.

The party also challenged the governorship candidate of the APC, in the state, Mr. Dakuku Peterside, to explain what happened to billions of naira on Operation Zero Potholes, a conduit pipe used to siphon government money under his watch as Commissioner for Works, during the Amaechi administration.

It maintained that Amaechi and members of the APC were corrupt and lacked qualities to hold public office in a government that claims to be fighting corruption and making ‘desired change’ in governance.

The party maintained that Amaechi’s quest for public office was driven by corruption, wondering why he would claim that President Buhari was begging him to take up ministerial position, when he was yet to clear corruption allegations against him. This, according to the party, “amounts to glorifying the former governor and corruption, if his claim, at a public function in Abuja that Buhari was begging him to accept a ministerial appointment is true.

“We make bold to say that under Amaechi as governor, corruption was legalised and institutionalised. There are obvious evidence attesting to the validity of this position and the PDP is fully ready to provide proof of its claims.
“Looking elsewhere from Amaechi and chieftain of the APC, and concentrating only on those who worked under former President Goodluck Jonathan and members of the PDP in the ‘fight against corruption’ amounts to witch-hunt and selective prosecution.

The Federal Government has NO POWER to probe state government therefore Buhari cannot probe Tinubu and Amaechi. If anybody has the power to probe the tenures of these men, it is their respective State Houses of Assembly.
