The EFCC has been very busy since President Buhari took power driving his anti-corruption fight all over Nigeria. Here are seven Nigerians whom it has gone after since.

1) Toyin Saraki, wife of the Senate President


The EFCC interrogated Toyin Saraki for about six hours over alleged corruption.

Mrs. Saraki was invited by the commission for questioning over alleged shady contracts during her husband’s tenure as governor of Kwara between 2003 and 2011.

The invitation was in relation to alleged contracts executed by companies said to be linked to her while her husband was Kwara governor.

Mrs. Saraki, in a statement issued by her NGO, Well Being Foundation, after her interrogation, pledged to support and cooperate with the EFCC in ensuring credible investigation into the allegation.

2) Alhaji Sule Lamido, Ex Governor of Jigawa State & His Sons


The EFCC last month arrested former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido and his two sons for alleged money laundering related offences.

The EFCC had earlier arrested the two sons of the governor over alleged misappropriation of billions of Naira belonging to the Jigawa State Government.

Operatives of the commission, investigating Lamido and his sons, alleged that billions of state government funds were traced into accounts of companies owned and operated by the governor and his two sons.

The judge in charge of the case remanded them in prison before being released on bail days later.

3) Ifeoma Nwobodo, Chief of Staff to Ex-Governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission recently grilled Ifeoma Nwobodo, the Chief of Staff to the former governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime, over allegations of corruption.

She was ushered into the anti-graft agency’s interrogation room where a team of crack investigators grilled her.

Allegations against Ms. Nwobodo include conspiracy, money laundering, misappropriation of public funds and abuse of office.

A source at the commission revealed; “Her invitation is believed to be precursor to the interrogation of her former principal as the agency is said to be flooded with petitions indicting Chime of humongous graft during his eight-year rule of Enugu State as governor from 2007 to 2015.”

4) Steve Oronsanye, former Head of Service of the Federation

A former Head of Service of the Federation, Steve Oronsanye, was interrogated by the EFCC days ago over allegations of corruption.

Mr. Oronsanye was appointed Head of the Civil Service of the Federation by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in June 2009 and retired in November 16, 2010.

However, in September 2014, the office of the Auditor General of the Federation released a damning report that indicted him of N123billion alleged fraud.

While allegations of massive corruption hung around his neck, Mr. Oronsaye remained very close to then President, Goodluck Jonathan.

He also continued to occupy some of the most important positions in the country. He is, for over 10 years now, chairman of the Presidential Committee on Financial Action Task Force [FATF] and was board member of both the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation [NNPC] and the Central Bank of Nigeria [CBN], the two public organisations widely considered the most lucrative in the country.
