GEJman:Mmm. Fair enough. Tho I doubt @bolded is possible. Too much individual pride; from yourself to your family to your village, to your people, to your state. So (Igbo) people are always willing to claim those other things quickly because they take pride in them. |

Afam4eva:Thank you. Consciousness? Like in what sense? And I do hear Enugu indigenes just referring to themselves as simply 'Enugu indigines' than like the specific people group. If that makes sense.... Whereas for example the Mbaise people in Imo state or Umahia people. They don't refer to themselves by state (usually). Wonder why...? Please if you don't mind (last question lol) is Ngwo a place or a people group or both? |

MrsPhyno:I feel Enugu people see themselves as one hence the peace and tranquility in the state both politically and culturally. The division's are basically geographical and probably due to dialect differences. Discrimination exists but very minimal. So usually there is no need to show superiority by declaring ur group unless when specifically asked. Ngwo is both, located around the Ugwu onyeama/Ninth mile axis and consists of towns who speak a similar igbo dialect. |

MrsPhyno:Consciousness in the sense tgat, Enugu people don't carry their clan on their head like people from Ngwa, Owerri etc and that is why when an Enugu person is asked where he's from, he'll most likely say Enugu instead of Nkanu, Udi and to a lesser extent Nsukka. That's why the last Igbos that will disclaim their Igbo identity is the Enugu people and the Anambra people, though for another reason. |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by abagoro(m): 12:13pm On Aug 06, 2015 |
Afam4eva:There exists no clan like Owerri in Igboland. Owerri is but a town of 5 kindreds which is the seat of Government in Imo State. The town belongs to Uratta which comprises of several distinct towns like Orji, Nekede, Egbu, Emekuku, Awaka etc. Uratta is bounded by Ohuhu, Ngor, Isu, Ikwerre and Etche. I just felt the clarification needs to be made. Mbaise is equally not a clan as it is just a merger of Ngor, Uratta, Ohuhu (Ezilihi'e), Agbaja and Isu groups around 1940 for administrative convenience by colonialists. Some of these things are important for younger generation to know. |

Dodgy ![]() ...back to important issues @ChimaAdeoye...nice contribution about taxation In effect, you are suggesting that taxation be progressive, the more you have, the more you are taxed It is a splendid idea, for evolved minds and cultures...I hope we can do it Regressive taxation should be actively discouraged.....it is horrible.....proportionate is also bad for a highly unequal country, where a few percent are the super rich majority, and a lot more poor Progressive taxation is the way I hope the new governor knows this? I cannot bring myself to say that his nickname, I find it annoying, God forgive me Yeah, Ugwuanyi...or Gov Ifeanyi Sychophants will have a field day/years with that nickname...just like ebeano A kpoo ya the person, isi agbakaa ya, o kewe ego Enugu State aghala aghala...chezoo olu a si ya luo SMH |

Enugu approves three-week paternity leave AUGUST 6, 2015 : IHUOMA CHIEDOZIE The Enugu State Government has amended its Civil Service rules to grant six months maternity leave to nursing mothers. Interestingly, husbands whose wives might put to bed were also given a ‘paternity leave’, but it would only be for just three weeks. The paternity leave was meant to give such husbands the opportunity to support their nursing wives, according to the state government. Before, female workers who gave birth were entitled to three months maternity leave while the men whose wives delivered babies were not exempted from work. Similarly, the state government also resolved that henceforth, nursing mothers were free to breast-feed their babies in offices during work hours. The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sam Ngwu, who disclosed these in Enugu on Wednesday, said the new policy would strengthen the family as a social unit and also promote mother and child welfare. Unveiling plans to mark the 2015 Breast Feeding Week in the state, Ngwu explained that the extension of the maternity leave would encourage nursing mothers in the state to engage in the internationally recommended four to six months exclusive breast feeding of newborn babies. The commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Moses Otiji, noted that the state has been marking ‘’the Breast Feeding Week’’ every year in order to galvanise support for nursing mothers. Ngwu further explained that the theme of this year’s Breast Feeding Week – ‘Breast feeding and work, let’s make it happen’, was in line with the state government’s commitment to the needs of nursing mothers and newborns. He said nursing mothers should be allowed to continuously breast feed their babies anywhere they work, whether in the private or public sector. According to him, lectures would be organised for nursing mothers in the course of the breast feeding week to enable them learn more about exclusive breast feeding. “The week is dedicated to draw the attention of the public on the need for exclusive breast feeding. “The breast contains yellow milk that contains most of the vital ingredients for healthy growth of the baby. “It protects the baby from diseases and promotes bonding between mother and child,” he added. http://www.punchng.com/news/enugu-approves-three-week-paternity-leave/ |

MrsPhyno:No group in Umuahia refer themselves specifically as Umuahia. The name Umuahia is derived from a bird, 'Ahia'. The major clans/tribes/groups in Umuahia are the Ibeku, the Oboro, Ohuhu, Ubakala and the Umuokpara. Umuahia is the mere name of the geographical area and nothing is bad for someone to identify with his clan/group. Dialectical differences is like that everywhere even in Hausa, where a Kano man will say ZO ie COME while a Sokoto man will say TOWO and claims that he's the main Hausa. Diversity is not division, Igbo is one irrespective of the differences. Lets know our differences instead of pretending as if it does not exist. |

It is very hard trying not to give up on you ![]() But I will keep on keeping on..... ....besides you like oyibo matter, does the paternity one not fly with you too? ![]() (Though seriously IMO ...the civil service is wack....no/little work is done....so when there are leaves, I go like, "leave from what exactly"? This is arguable...I admit I know little about the workings of the civil service...willing to learn though We need a revolution...I swear |

asha80:If they should try and make Rainbownet start working again I will be very grateful. When I say i love Chima Nnamani many people will think am being crazy, I love Chima, the guy is very intelligent despite the slips, if you ask me today I will call him my ideal igbo leader for some reasons. He looted Enugu treasury but where did he invest those money in Igboland, I saw properties own in Enugu, Aba and Onitsha. He established Rainbownet, Cosmo FM and many job opportunities that opened up when Rainbownet was working in East. Rainbownet revolutionalized internet services in East though they used landlines instead of modems but the company improved East. Orji Kalu owned Bourdex then but I don't know what happened to it, Bourdex was popular in Aba and Umuahia but Rainbownet was in the other SE states. If we can have 2 ISPs coy that isn't a mobile telephone operator you will see how East will swell with lots and lots of businesses. |
| Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by Nobody: 6:45pm On Aug 07, 2015 |
Chima's rascality made him appear less smart or made him prone to attack. You may be surprised how much Chime looted but then he is smart, you won't even notice. Chime would build an estate and name it Fidelity Estate but Chima will call it Ebeano Estate. The former dissociates the governor from such property but the later immediately draws attention once it's mentioned. It still pains me how much was lost and still been lost since the shut down of cosmo fm, Rainbow net, ICC, etc. Am happy Chime managed to re-plan the unnamed and poorly designed estate near ebenao tunnel, now named Fidelity estate. Just within fews months like 3 or so, the whole area got filled with duplexes. AnambraDota: |

What's up with Ugwuanyi's government. Any ground breaking of projects or something. The umahi of ebonyi is yet to pay June and July and now August salary. Civil servants are dying. Hé is even yet to start any project. Ebonyi plagued with bad leadership since 1999. I am tired of pdp in Ebonyi. Apga is too weak in the state to rescue it. Sorry for discussing Ebonyi issues in Enugu thread. |

My Apologies, from the stories I heard about Dave of Ebonyi, I don't forsee good things from him. We should be weary of a Governor debuting with owing of workers' salary. Ifeanyi of Enugu is as slow as Buhari, I understand Buhari is doing tho'. I just hope Ifeanyi comes out with strong plans even with the harsh economic conditions. spyder880: Largas: |

In support of Spyder880 post this: Ugwuanyi Partners Rockefeller Foundation on 100 Resilient Cities 08 Aug 2015 Font Size: a / A Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi In a bid to expand the socio-economic fortunes of Enugu State for investment promotion and speedy development, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has expressed the commitment of his administration to partner with Rockefeller Foundation for the state to reap the benefits of joining the 100 resilient cities of the world. The governor made the disclosure while receiving a delegation of the Rockefeller Foundation, New York, led by its Associate Director on City Relations, Liz Tabi Agbor, who was at the Government House, Enugu on a visit. It will be recalled that Enugu joined the league of 100 resilient cities in December, 2014, making it one of the five African cities that had made the list world-wide. Gov. Ugwuanyi who was delighted at the benefits the new status would bring to the State noted “the radical change that this will engender in the economic landscape of our state, especially in the area of creation of wealth, employment generation, expanded industrial and commercial base and increased availability of modern technology and technical services”. He maintained that the prospect of using the platform to partner with the Foundation and other global financial institutions was enormous and targeted to leverage resources to support the implementation of the Resilience strategy in the state, adding that “it is certainly an opportunity that we can hardly afford to miss”. The governor who equally thanked the Rockefeller Foundation for finding the city of Enugu worthy of the invitation to join the 100 resilient cities of the world, assured the Foundation of his administration’s willingness to provide all the support that were needed to enhance the speedy actualisation of its set objectives. Earlier in her speech, the representative of the Foundation, Agbor, thanked the governor for his cooperation and willingness to partner with them and assured the state of the foundation’s commitment to help build resilience in Enugu to make it an efficient city for the benefit of the masses. ]Ugwuanyi Vows to Complete N2bn Abandoned FG Dam Project[/b] Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State yesterday declared that the over N2 billion Adada River Dam embarked upon by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources in Enugu state would be completed and delivered for use in July next year. The project when completed is expected to generate and hold 1.3 million cubic metres of water all year round. The Governor who inspected the dam project at the weekend also inaugurated a network of rural electrification projects started early in June this year a few days after he assumed office and executed by the state’s Rural Electrification Board. Representative of the Water Resources ministry, Robert Umezulike, a chief hydrologist assured that when completed, the facility would power the greater Nsukka water scheme which had been in the pipeline for decades. To strengthen the process of enhancing the project and boost economic activities in the rural communities that cut across Udi, Uzo-Uwani and Igbo- Etiti local council areas of the state, the governor inaugurated a completed rural electrification projects which would help in powering the dam on completion. The people of the three local council areas thronged Ezi-Nze, the site of the 2.5MVA injection substation opened for use by the governor who also cut the tape to inaugurate the civic centre in the community. Umezulike assured the governor during the inspection of the dam that the construction was such that dam had the capacity to end water scarcity in the entire area. Governor Ugwuanyi expressed his administration’s readiness to give it all the necessary support to facilitate its delivery on time with the specified job quality to actualise the aim of adding value to the lives of the various communities it is meant to serve. While interacting with the governor, the site Engineer of the project Justine Ihedioha hinted that the project would tentatively be completed by July 2016, adding that the first phase of the project had been completed while the entire project had attained 30% completion status. Ihedioha who lamented inadequate fund as the major setback however assured the governor of quality job delivery, adding that all the preliminary work, including the dam foundation had been completed. |
