you cant blame the woman.... she was just trying to discipline the boy. teenagers can be very unruly.... my teacher once flogged me close to my eyes and she was very sorry and scared.but i understood that she was trying to put me in line and my parents didnt complain because they too understand. so this is only news because its the 'step mother'.
Correction should be administered in a "sane" manner.

If you want to flog the _butt, flog the butt.
If you want to flog the palm, flog.

Don't go whipping all around the body in anger. You would definitely damage something.

I think the woman should be made to face the law, what was she thinking? huh Is he her biological son?

Who knows whether she did it intentionally. I'm sure she did. SMH

spare the child, spoil the rod abi?.like say ur own parent never flog you before...counselling koor, seminar ni.
Thats your view!

I grew up in an environment where child abuse is a taboo. Did you read the write-up at all? and judge by what the teenager did and what the step mum did to his eyes. Where your parents so cruel to you while you were growing? because you sound like someone that was trained with a cane or belt while growing.

Can you beat your child to the state of loosing his sight? If all this questions is 'Yes', then no whaala.

Enjoy your life.

This is why we advocate for young people to know themselves before marriage and be tolerant of each other

Divorce is never a good thing. .think of your children

am sure parents will have to agree that not all correction should be flogging or canning

You don't hit children that are not yours. You discipline them through other means. This is why most schools are now stopping flogging. Children are not animals.

Really? ! Your teacher flogged and almost blind you and your parents were forgiving. Wow! Your mother is wonderful! I remembered when I teacher flogged me and I got sick the next day.Mday.My mom asked me to stay back home .

Mom: (touching my neck to fee , y temperature) He! Eme nn'efife ke anyi ga n'ulo agwu (later in the day, we shall go to the hospital

Mesadstill motionless) My teacher flogged me yesterday
Mom:Maka gini? For what.

She started packing up her wares, closed her shop, took me home and ask me to tel her the name of my teacher grin.Worst is, as she was locking me in, I over head a cousin of hers entering the Compound. If my mother na javkbauer, that her cousin na Rambo.

When i recovered and went back to school, my classmates were all over me, praising my birth mother and her fighting skills. grin grin I heard the headmaster had to drag her to his office to appeal.
My mom went to school behind my back and politely told her to flog my but or hands next time... Its not always the best to fight for kids when they are disciplined.

Flogging a child isn't discipline. I don't think I will condole any teacher flogging my kids.kids.Its better dey are asked to kneel and raise hands, or other straining punishment, but the day a teacher picks a cane and flog my child, I will cone to that school and flog the teacher as well . Better to be suspended/expelled.

Look, life is a teacher. Nobody ca teach you better than life/experience. My parents trained me with tough hand, my own father dey use koboko flog me . But, it did nothing to change y attitude, not until he decided to use communication. Flogging a child is never good, even animals shouldn't be flogged.Once my child gets to 12 years, I will restrain from using anything, not even my hands to hit that child.

At the age of 5, I intend to make he/she start reading a d discussing the bible with the whole family in the sitting room.
At the age of 8 discussion starts involving the opposite sex.
At the age of 10, he/she starts getting exposed to the advantages and disadvantages of human existence, visit motherless home, hospitals wards where he/sshe will be forced to make a choice in life.
At the age of 18 yr, I pick him out and make sure he comes home drunk, after which he may choose to be a moderate drinker or no drinker at all.I would want to see his girlfriend at age 16, because I know how this world dey grin grin

As for my females, I know how best to handle them the way I can.I will never use tough hands.I intend to be a mother and a counsellor, If they choose to go the bad way, their choice.

Nice plans, I hope things go as planned. But life isn't as it seem always, there are unforeseen factors that are beyond human comprehension and control. You better prepare for all that as well.

As for your upbringing, I believe if your parents only sat you down and talked to you, it wouldn't have worked.

You can only do your best of course .The rod mustn't be physical abuse. Communication is the essence of life.Even In marriage, it's a spice.

The bolded is so wrong. The flogging made me a crazy person more. It gave me temper, and made me always angry. On the other hand communication, gave me a platform to a t like a human being rather than an animal. It sooths me.My dad employed that and it worked. And he did it so well that it penetrated, he won't judge me, instead he spends time putting me through and making me see reasons. But before that, I stubborn like goat. If you beat me say I break one plate, I go break 3.If you beat me again, when I don cry finish, I enter the kitchen break 5 join.

Lol ... Warri girl... Like you said, the rod doesn't have to be physical abuse.that's right, but the rod should always be there as well as the communication, there has to be balance. I was physically abused as a child and all my teenage years and I know the effect of physical abuse on a teenager especially in his adult years, that's why I believe everything in moderation is best. I am less likely gonna flog my kids, but I will not hesitate to do so if I think its neccesary. It boils down to been objective about it rather than doing it out of anger.

Well, you should also know when to stop and not employ it at all.I know some kids are stubborn, hell my parents went through hell with me.But you know, the problem I also had with them is, after the beating, they don't apologise. My mom does sometimes and it makes me cry even more than the beating sef. From my own experience, I know how to train my kids.I don't like the physical thing, I may lose my temper one day, but I may just violently hug him/her tight to suppress the urge.

You must understand that raising a kid is a one chance thing. If you go with the wrong approach you could ruin that child's life and vice versa. So you must be careful what approach you take.I suggest you don't bank on ur experience as a child alone.its always best to observe and act rather than act on prejudice.

Nope, I am not bank in on my experience alone.
I just don't want to use violence when I can use corporal punishment.
Like I earlier said, I can do my motherly and counselling best, then leave the rest for the child. If he/she wants to be useless, he/she can go ahead.I just refuse the animal treatment on my children. I can't subscribe to that.
