Before You Condemn That Politician, Look Inwards! by Chidoks(f): 10:39am On Aug 14, 2015
I went to the filling station yesterday evening to buy fuel for my gen. While waiting to be attended to, this lovely looking woman drove in with her Honda SUV and asked for 10 liters of fuel which sells for 110 per liter.when the attendant noticed she was not paying attention to the meter, he stopped at 9.02 liters.whatttt? 9.02? my head swole.in the first place everyone knows that the pump is adjusted and this chap did this? the wonan paid 1100 naira and he collected.while attending to me, i politely said" what you did to that woman is very wrong" he pretended not to hear.when it was time to pay him, i made sure we had eye contact and i repeated myself and he gave ne this " abeg ming your business" look.
Since then i've been thinking about it and realised that what we all need is attitudinal change.if that chap eventually assumes any public office in the future he will still exhibit the same corruption in a higher magnitude even if he's under 'holy party'
My ponit is : let's all look inwards and correct our wrong deeds before seeking to crucify our politicians.do you cut corners, give, receive or / and condone bribery/ bribe.do you boycott due process with your 'long leg'?you pay for special center for your children/ ward/sibling to write exams? the list is long but these are the little foxes that spoil the vine! we all ought to check our behaviors and examine how faithful we are in the discharge of our duties in the little offices we handle presently before we attack our corrupt politicians.for if we do our homework well, the next generation of politicians will be better.Cheers.

As it is said in scripture
Remove the log that is blocking your eyes so you can see clearly enough to remove that speck in some else eyes. Period.

You think so?? Don't you know we are where we are because of the likes of that boy.if we don't examine ourselves and make the necessary changes then there is no need of hoping for a better Nigeria.

Not only the boy, but you too are the reason we are where we are (no offense meant)

It was your duty to speak out,

If you had intervened, next time, the attendant would not be bold enough to cheat a customer that is not looking, because he would fear others would expose him.

If your relation is a politician, would you only question them when they inflates the bills you are providing funds to offset, or would you speak out too when they inflate government contracts?

The attendant has a poverty mentality. And they will continue to wallow in poverty till they change their dubious and poverty - inducing behaviours.

A corrupt government is a function of a corrupt citizenry.

Well, the system has taught everyone to be this way.

Like I will say, it is not as if other countries are better. There are three things that work for them;

1. If you do it, there is a high possibility that you will be caught
2. If you are caught, you will be made to pay regardless of who the hell you are or you think you are/who the hell you know or think you know
3. Because of 1 and 2 above, doing the right thing has become a habit by these people for ages and ages.

Their kids are born in this type of society where most people obey the law. While there is no 100 percent success in these countries (they still have law breakers) Nigeria has almost everyone corrupt.

However, if there is a breakdown of law and order and resources are scarce, I can guarantee you that these so called ''developed'' folks will be less than animals.

For us to make ''doing the right thing'' a habit will not come easy. It will take a while before many Nigerians will imbibe being sensible and considerate.

True that,I should have spoken up while the woman was there but I was sort of mesmerized by the whole scenario. Even when I spoke I felt as if something was lodged in my throat but since that incident I've had to vehemently opposed cheats especially after my conversation with the guy that commented third and I tell you,it hasn't been easy but I've decided to be different. If only people will understand and join the train...

It may take forever if we don't start now.It may take forever if we don't appreciate those who wish to stand out.I know what I face everyday just because I've refused to inflate figures for some folks.when I object, they say stuffs like"madam na where I dey chop be that" or "everyone is doing it". I've lost some meaningful deals but I don't care.I'm set on this course and I will do my bit,the question is will every other person contribute theirs?
