By now every right thinking Nigerian should know that our health system is in complete shambles! I had to go to the national "hospital" over the past few weeks to do some test. My experience there is completely depressing. No wonder our govt officials dont use the hospitals. They are nothing but glorified dispensaries!
To get quality healthcare as a Nigerian you have to look any where else but Nigeria. How did we get here. We stole everything including money for healthcare! Who does that? Thank God I will be travelling next month. I will be doing the necessary check abroad. The question now is at what cost? Secondly what about hundreds of millions of Nigerians who cannot afford 2meals a day let alone a flight ticket. We are not the only corrupt country in the world but we are the only one stupid enough to allow corruption deprive us of quality healthcare. Russia is a very corrupt country, have you ever heard Putin flown anywhere to do a check up. Cuba is not regarded as a developed country, yet they have one of the best healthcare in the world. Egypt inspite of its crisis is still one of the preferred destination for Nigerian medical tourism. Pls pardon any typos. I am angry. Lastly, a major part of the challenge are the clergymen who keep preaching to thier followers that tgey can never be sick. How? People fall sick everywhere ! So with such mindset, that kind of citizen can never join in any agitation for a better healthcare because it would appear he is faithless. But truth is even if you dont fall sick what about your relatives, friends and loved ones. We must begin to compel those in power to provide quality healthcare here. It is not rocket science

Because quite simply, it costs money.....lots of money to build and maintain a good hospital in Nigeria.

Look at American hospitals. US citizens pay lots of money every year in taxes to get good amenities. Plus....hospital fees in the US are ultra high....and if you have insurance, you pay lots of money in insurance premiums to get good care. Plus, rich people in the US donate heavily to their hospitals.

And how about US med schools? Yes....medical students pay high fees, med schools and their parent universities have hefty budgets , and med schools too get heavy donations.

And standard regulatory agencies work well....because any small mess up, and the local governor can get sacked.

Yes.....Nigeria needs a standard hospital. But...if you want a system of standard hospitals in Nigeria....you have to pay the price in high taxes, and high hospital fees and insurance premiums....not this one where you pay heavily subsidised fees, and expect first class. And you have to make sure that PMB ins really interested in diversifying our economy away from oil....so that not only do we have the cash to pay for standard hospitals....but we even have the manufacturing capability to manufacture high grade equipment like MRI, CT , ECG, EEG and so on.(Because....lemme tell you....we have to import most of the things used in a standard hospital).

We do not have the money. Sad.

But to partially answer your question, (and this is strictly my opinion)...health care is expensive in America because of higher standards(an American dentist's concept of basic care is far more than a British dentist's concept)...and because America is the leading nation when it comes to medical research....and research results cost money.

Bruno is back in Nigeria hale and healthy. He was on the radio reality program 'brekete family radio' to thank Mr Emeka and the radio program for helping immensely during his time of need.
I sighted him at Emab Plaza Wuse2 this afternoon.

You can recall last two weeks Mr. Bruno Iwuoha was calling for medical help. After that the CEO Morgan Entertainment, Emeka Morgan Nwanne Oguejiofor Jr invited him to the US and took him to one of the best hospitasl and paid all the bills including hospital bill feeding and medication bill

When Mr Iwuoha arrived the US, he was on wheel chair but right now he is very healthy. According to the doctors, Bruno will not be able to work or do certain things for 6-12 months, to give room for proper healing.

Iwuoha was in Abuja this morning to thank Dr Ahmed Isa and the entire Brekete family.

Well...not all Naija politrickians. Akpabio of Akwa Ibom commissioned a standard hospital before he left office.

But you are right. Very right. The problem is .......even if we stopped all our thieving politicians and govt officials, as well as the financial corruption in many govt hospitals (yes...it happens. )...we still won't have the money for good hospitals.

And remember, anyone can build a brand new 500 star hospital. The question is....how do we continue to maintain it? (Like how do we update the equipment when it becomes out of date? Remember we are not a manufacturing country....so we have to import).

The solution is simple. Nigeria must diversify its economy(APC should be serious about it....it is not just talking about it)...so that we can have the cash. And Nigerians should stop tolerating corruption in the name of ''why are they persecuting my brother''.And we have to pay taxes.

Someone with access to LOTS and LOTS of money. Paying for treatment here without using health insurance is financial suicide. I won't be surprised to see a $40k+ medical bill from the hospital.

That's more than N8 million for probably only a week or so.
But they won't do the guessing game with your body like car mechanics. They will either fix the problem or tell you to prepare for the funeral.

But I saw dis Man inside the BA that brought me to Abuja on the 8th of August(last weekend) Even Dare Art Alade was in the plane too.

Bruno is okay now. He was speaking live on Brekete family program on radio station (Love FM 104.5 Abuja) earlier today. He said he is very well now however, he is still going to continue with some treatments.
