Immortalz:Nice question, those attachments to school names dont have any relevance on how the school operates. As regards to working outside one's comfort zone, I am a strong advocate of that...I believe while working far from your base, you tends to meet different people with different orientation... When I was teaching in kano state, the orientation of the students I met there is quite different from students down here in Lagos.. If you have the intentions to lecture someday in a higher institution, I will advice you to go for your Masters... |

rezzy:On point! Rezzy, on point! There's a kind of "transfer fee" + other "condiments" that'll make ur heart skip 7 beats like in ur friend's case. Good 4 him. Fortunately, he doesn't fall into d 1st category (ie case 1) in d sense dt: (a) His abode - VGC is in d SAME ZONE AS LEKKI as compared to SANGO~LEKKI in my last illustration; walahi, dem no be mate at-all!!! (b) He has d (i) TIME and (ii) CHANCE/OPPORTUNITY of doing PRIVATE TUTORIALS!!! So, he doesn't fall into case 1 at all. He is exempted. The major issue is: will ur school activities give u allowance 2 do ur own runz by d side as in d case of ur friend (without affecting ur legal duties of course)? If the answer is NO, then he/she FALLS PERFECTLY into d 1st category. Shikena! U'll notice dt ur gee was able 2 achieve all he had achieved because he HAD (EXTRA TIME) TO DO HIS OWN RUNZ! That is how important it is 2 have some time 4 urself 4 PRIVATE TUTORIALS. What private tutorials is to an average teacher is what allowances are to our senators/reps. Your salary is just what it is - BASIC SALARY. The extras from ur RUNZ is d "koko"! (in as much as its not detrimental to d school) CONCLUSION: Again, let's ensure we look at d broader pix. Let's not be carried away by d gross pay but let's focus on d net pay, ie, let's put other factors in2 consideration. Thanks |

Immortalz:1. Don't know much about primary school but for secondary schools that uses British curriculum must be doing checkpoint at the junior level and IGCSE at the senior level thereby having basic 7-11(5 years in secondary school) while Nigeria based curriculum is 6 years, British curriculum is narrow and application based while Nigeria curriculum is wide and knowledge based. 2. Not really how a school operates boils down to their content, quality and system. The name does not have so much impact. 3. Of course that's why i used to advise peeps to take it further outside their zone. 4. Masters is good most especially for schools running the Nigerian curriculum but if you truly want to go international which is trending in schools now for British and American based curriculum go for certification like IGCSE and the rest. hope this answers your questions. |

akanduteenah:My sister be sure of yourself first. You can get around and see up things at the different tutorial centres in your area and close by. JAMB lessons will soon start, GCE registration is on so they'll soon kick into gear. Get like 3 or 4 places around. In some areas, it's like 1k-2k per period but other areas like where I stay where the tutorial centres don't bill the students much, it's like 5h but never go lower than 5h. From those places you can get private home teaching to supplement everything. |
