Govts and other corporate entities do exit contracts for various reasons. The exit clause in all contracts is there to take care of the need to exit and of course with consequences. In this case, NNPC/FG must have weighed the consequences alongside what they're currently losing. So, if exiting is a better option, why not?

Nothing bad in discontinuing contracts that are not beneficial to a govt and her citizens.

More often than not, such contracts are entered into for personal benefits by those representing the government.

This article clearly shows that that contract shouldn't have been.

Going by your last statement...why then are they re-tendering?

What about oil blocks?
I guess he won't do anything about it because 90% of oil blocks were illegally awarded to northern thieves.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Then, the FG shouldn't have entered into it given the audit of 2012 especially.

The deal itself is not bad but the implementation just LIKE SAP of the Gen. Babangida regime.

Even NEITI is about to be audited, discrepancies will be observed, as with all human organisations

Besides, the same deal is still continuing which tells you that it is in itself not poisonous to the finances of our country

i smell greed! Buhari i knw and trust, buh this Ibe of a man i knw not; mind u, he initiated and moved the motion for the cancellation of the contract: a typical Nigerian, old policies are never good enough they want new once which they can benefit from. not until i see the transparency and the dividend in it, i will not give him my applause.

An astute question.

There are some Nigerians living today that we should be on our knees and begging them to go into government to help us out.

Before shouting for or against APC,can anyone even recall that Allison Madueke reported the oil companies involved in the oil swap deal to the EFCC,in a petition, and they are still under investigation! Even Femi Falana confirmed the petition! If GEJ and Allison Madueke were involved,It will be unreasonable for them to write a petition to the EFCC to investigate an issue that is not public knowledge.
The oil cabal is answerable to only themselves and their selfish economic interests, and they have a grouse with GEJ and NOI since the subsidy scandal, when he refused to pay and ordered the Ribadu panel to investigate.
So Nigerians should stop kidding themselves that politics is about APC or PDP. If GEJ has agreed to play ball, he will still be President!

I will use the new word I just learnt today for description :

Your stup.idity is hack proof and factory fitted.

You must also think we are equally stupid. GEJ, the COMMANDER IN CHIEF of the federal republic of Nigeria and his Petroleum Minister reported oil companies to EFCC!!!

I can not help but wonder why civility has gone to the dogs on Nairaland! The ability to carry out Simple research and having common sense, is so lacking nowadays.
You call me stupid. Now,let everyone see who is stupid!
1. On 29th of July,2015,during the book launch by Dr. Musa Babayo, TETFUND's Boss, Falana in his speech titled ''the right to accountable government in Nigeria'' mentioned it specifically that she petitioned the EFCC on oil swaps.
2. On August 23,2015, Falana was interviewed by Leke Baiyewu and he made the same statement. It was titled '' Buhari will probe Jonathan,others- Falana'' on Vanguard!
3. On January 28,2014, a group of lawyers and civil societies under the aegis of The Oil probe followup group, presented a petition to the EFCC boss,Lamorde concerning the non-prosecution of those indicted by the Ribadu and Aig-Imou. Probe committees.
4. Go to SaharaTV and check up the interview in June 2015 of Festus Kenyamo about Her reporting the swap deals to EFCC.
Now, Google these four points and dates, and announce the name of the latest fool on Nairaland!
Believe half of what you see and non of what you hear. That is the only way to keep your sanity in the post GEJ-era.
Right now,Fashola is regarded as one of the most corrupt governors in Nigeria, which is unbelievable, but all contracts awarded by him are available on the Lagos State Govt website.
Forget partisan politics and make Nigeria a better place! Shalom!

Bro you need to actually read Femi Falana's interview. Find an excerpt below

Having been given the liberty to operate without executive interference, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission are dealing with petitions which were suppressed before now. In other words, the petitions currently being investigated were submitted by concerned citizens and groups under the (former President Goodluck) Jonathan’s administration. For example, the petition against the oil swap deal was written and submitted by the past Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, AFTER the 2015 general elections.

http://www.punchng.com/politics/crossfire/buhari-will-probe-jonathan-others-falana/

Did you take note of when she actually petitioned EFCC? She petitioned them AFTER the election was lost!! Also remember that she tried countless times to see Buhari. This is obviously eye service which should fool no one. She was the minister for at least 4 years, why didn't she petition EFCC during her tenure?

You also implied that GEJ was not involved in the swap scam? REALLY??
If he wasn't involved then why DIDN'T he put an end to it during his tenure? This is something that Buhari has done in just about 4 months into his tenure!!!

Nigerians cannot be deceived. It is pretty obvious that the last administration benefited IMMENSELY from the corruption within the Oil industry and they HAD NO INTEREST in stopping these unwholesome practices

My brorher it was useless sentiments and fear of the unknown is what caused it. PMB is not perfect but most of his moves just makes common sense. Its clear he's not there to amass wealth, i only hope age will allow him complete his tenure

I simply laugh at your logic. The average Nigerian believe in trial by media. Where is the Fani Kayode case today? Thrown out of court! If it was during GEJ regime, dumb folks will shout to the high heavens! Every one is shouting that the oil industry was corrupt under GEJ. Was the oil industry clean under Buhari when he was in charge of NNPC,when billions of naira disappeared under his watch? Who was held responsible for the looting at PTF,also under his watch? Anyone?
My poser to you is this-
1. if she was guilty, will she write a petition to the EFCC to investigate a deal in which she stole Nigerian public funds?
2. If she was guilty as you already charged her,why will she write a petition at a date when she knows that she has no influence to protect herself!
Learn to think deeply and logically, not giving knee jerk reactions to public issues!
