Spain will have five teams involved in next season's UEFA Champions League following Sevilla FC's UEFA Europa League triumph. No wonder they have the best set of players in the world. A change in regulations announced in 2013 determined that from 2014/15 the UEFA Europa League winners would qualify for the following season's UEFA Champions League play-offs at least. However, as both of this term's UEFA Champions League finalists – Juventus and FC Barcelona – are already in the 2015/16 group stage by virtue of their domestic league finishes, Sevilla, who beat FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk 3-2 in Warsaw on Wednesday, will also not need to qualify. Instead, they will go directly into the group stage along with the top three in Spain: Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid. Valencia is yet to qualify. Although they are almost there considering their result against Monaco last week. |
