I'm a little surprised there are handful of people that don't know who Deinde Fernandez was. Truly there are many kids on Nairaland. In the 1980s and 90s, years before Dangote, Adenuga and Otedola becomes household names synonymous to wealth in Nigeria. The likes of Deinde Fernandez, Harry Akande and MKO Abiola wealth are the type you pray to God to bless you with. This is a man that held ambassadorial positions in many countries around the world, he was a deputy prime minister in a country outside his country of origin, a very highly diplomatic man respected all over the world, we were told he owned a private island, he owned cars that were owned by the royal family, this man defined poshness and classy of wealth. With reasons best known to him, he didn't do so much on the home front (Nigeria).

RIP sir

Some info for the indomie generation

You really can't blame them, their generation seems to have different priorities, which is terrible. Nice attempt with your explanation, I will never forget the ovation edition that covered this man. He is an enigma

Read about this man in current affairs in the late 90s early 2000s! This man had hit the billions before there was Dan talkless of Gote! Himself and one Ibadan billionaire that plays/own golf (course), I'm not too sure of that Ibadan man again. Those guys were damn rich!

I'm waiting for something from naptu2, I'm sure he has an info or 2 abt him!

Baba naptu2, please mention me when you do.

The Ibadan man is Harry Akande.

the question is, how old are you?

I dont realy expect anyone that is less than 35years old to know this man very well.

I'm below 35 and I know about him very well. Some of us started reading newspapers and magazines and following events since primary school.

Another abroad-based billionaire Nigerian many people may find strange when he dies (may he live long) is Kase Lawal.

He's a US-based oil magnate.

Start researching him now.

I remembered reading that same edition of Ovation, he was truly an enigma. I've always wondered why he never invested in Nigeria. My hitch with these young bloods is their quickness in smearing others name and acting vacuous on their ignorance

Given the African standard, and if you are not talking about investment kinda billionaire, then yes! He was a Warren Buffet of Africa! The man was worth over 6billion pounds! One thing that made him stand out was the flamboyant but yet covert lifestyle he lived! The man buys the best things for himself! What I actually envied most about him is the political appointments he had in different African countries. That still surprises me.

Op you stand to be corrected, he's not dead, but gone to a place where sooner or later we'll join him and also serve as a warning to the living.

He was very reclusive but influential, one of his daughters Teju Philips was a commissioner under Tinubu. Guess he wasn't ready to deal with naija wahala.

Am not talking about a billionaire that is not reaching out well enough! Real wealth is not in what one can do for oneself don't you think?
That's why his money is so silent someone like me don't even know he exists! Imaging, A Dantata an Indimi that isn't as rich commands my respect and recognition just because they invested their money in so many's life through their biznesses . That 's what I call wealth mehn!

I like people who give! I hold in high esteem charitable courses and I adore those who support them. That is why Andrew Carnegie is one of my favourite personality of all time. Be that as it may, I do not question individuals on how they spend their money! Whether they choose to throw it into the ocean or decide to cut everything with scissor is their headache.
The only people I complain about are corps. that made fortunes from the people in a country and misplace their CSR priorities by sponsoring some absurd events (mostly entertainment) and giving to those who already have (celebrities). I wouldn't even complain about them if there is an appreciable and sizable CSR geared towards germane issues such as health, education etc.
For the records, Oluwo Fernandez didn't make his billions in Nigeria.

Read my lips bro; I am not of the opinion He led a waste of a life! And Yes I don't care how he led it . It doesn't matter anymore anyway.
Beht The Facts are ;
- I know of Mansa Musa
- I know J.D Rockefeller (very well)
-Bill Gates very well
- Warren Buffet very appreciably
- Aliko Dangote quite alright

Why do I even have to know an learn about the lives af these people
Its in obeisance to one af Newton's proclamation; "If I have been able to see a little further, it's by standing on the shoulders of GIANTS!"

Yeah, Those are the kind of giants I wanna be and are working towards to be like God willing, Those people were WEALTHY not just RICH .

Too much of cook spoil the broth they say so, I needn't know 'em all. That I dint know Oluwo Fernandez until now is not an outright failure I feel, and that doesn't amount to the attempts to crucifixion I have and am blatantly appealing against ! Its my pleasure meeting him anyway but Like I'd said , He got really popular posthumously esp with very youngsters like my humble self...

BTW, I'll doff my hat in respect if his will has it that there is a tipping for the Nigerian state afterall (like ICAN did yesterday) . Infact, he would automatically qualify for one of my GIANTS too grin

Thanks for the infos tho, well welcomed!
