Nigeria’s Super Eagles retained its 53rd spot on the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola world rankings released a few minutes ago by the world football governing body.

The Sunday Oliseh-tutored side are also static on the continent as they are still rated the ninth best African team with a meagre 599 points, a drop from its previous 601.


Algeria lead the pack in Africa, with 955 points; Cote D’Ivoire follows in second with an accumulation of 924 points.

Ghana, (827points), Tunisia (774points), Senegal (734points), Congo (672points), Cameroon (671points) and Egypt (619points) are the other countries ahead of Nigeria.

On the world stage, Chile’s heroics at the COPA America ensured that they moved into the top 10 world footballing countries.

The South American country’s position swap with England placed them in eighth while the Three Lions were relegated to the tenth on the log.

Otherwise, there were no other changes in the top ten of the standings.

Argentina are still rated as the number one footballing nation in the world, with Belgium, Germany, Colombia and Brazil occupying the second, third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.

Portugal in sixth, Romania (seventh) and Wales (ninth) are the other countries in the top ten of world football as recorded by the football governing body.

There was however no place for former World and European champions, Spain, in the top ten, as they maintained eleventh position.

Nigeria’s Segun Odegbami, had only on Tuesday, expressed his intention be the next president of FIFA in next year’s election.
