Goodmorning roomiez, So I followed the advice frm ds room and submitted my CV to schools in my area. I gt a positive response from one of the top schools in my area. They asked me to come back first week of resumption and teach a class (they said they will give me a topic and a day to prepare), which I think it's a fair deal considering my lack of secondary school teaching experience (my experience ends in lecture theatrez where i used to take tutorials for freshers back in uni). Any advice on how to handle ds without messing up a good opportunity? Positive feedbacks will be duly appreciated. Also, what salary range will be fair for a school in a lower middle class area and over a 1k students. Thank you

==================////////

afynwa :
I have interview with a primary
school
on wednesday, pls can someone
help
me with what to expect. pls.......
THANKS

=======================

MacJC:
1. Written test: since na primary
school, expect some 'Ugo C. Ugo" tinz,
ie maths, English, quantitativ+verbal,
and current affairs.
2. Micro teaching:
(a) plz be VERY audible, Don't shout
but be loud.
(b) be assertive. Don't 4m 'gentlemen'
o!
(c) choose a topic u are VERY VERY
good in; remember u've got only ONE
CHANCE to impress dm.
(d) No blabbing/stammering. This
shows timidity/incompetence.
(e) Liven up the class; try 2 make
them laugh whenever possible. Add
some humor 2 ur lecture.
(f) Feedback: Ensure u ask ur audience
(which could be students or teachers
or both) questions.
(g) mobility: move round d class once
in a while, this shows/portrays "class
control" and confidence. Don't just
stay rooted 2 d board.
(h) look into the eyez of ur students.
This also portrays confidence. Don't
avoid their gaze. You can focus on a
few students out of d lot that u are
comfortable looking at.
(i) ALWAYS put on a smile,
irrespective of how tense u are; ds
portrays confidence
(j) peradventure a question is thrown
@ u which u VIRTUALLY KNOW
NOTHING about, instead of babbling/
spewing out thrash, smile and with
FULL confidence, tell them u don't
have it RIGHT NOW @ the tip of ur
hands. In order words, be honest about
it. By so doing, u score a 'high' on d
honesty/sincerity scale. On d other
hand, if u bin get 'shikini' idea about d
question, say 5%, my sister, with
splendour, abeg magnify that 5%
answer like say u Sabi efrytin! In other
words, "ideas lo matter"!
3. Oral interview:
(a) AGAIN, ALWAYS PUT ON A SMILE.
(b) be free 2 ask dm questions too.
This shows them dt u are in control of
ur "environment" and MOST ESP, it
tells them u are NOT DESPERATE 4
the job-EVEN IF U FASTED 7 DAYS 4 IT!!!
(c)Transfer/Sign-on fee: Don't sell
urself cheap yet don't drive urself off d
transfer market with ur wage
demands. With d exception of some
few cases, the population of a school,
their school fees, d location of d
school or/and d "reservoir" (ie capital
base) of d proprietor of such school is
a pointer 2 d SOF such school can
offer u! So do a research on ds or
better still a mental calculation/visual
observation of th......... **yawns**
**Zzzzzzzzzzz**

Plz, apply as appropriate!

*fixed*

Sometimes, I wonder what kind of powerful spell was casted upon some workers. Those employers are enslaving a lot of us, cheating us, maltreating us, and even daring us to resign. Rather than put heads together on how to get out of this disparaging situation, we'll resort to in-fighting among ourselves. On top wetin?

A lot of teachers don't even know a thread like this exist; where genuine jobs vacancies are posted, conventional teaching ideas are discussed, invaluable advise on how to make a living out of teaching profession, innumerable guidelines on how to prepare for interviews, and unquantifiable 'life' experiences that everyone can benefit from... Why on earth is someone trying to throw tantrums on this kind of thread?

I'm not here to play the role of a judge, but rather to solicit for calmness. Even when we disagree, let us do so with some iota of civility. I'm saying this because a lot of VIP personalities(school owners, school administrators, heads of departments, etc) whom some 'newcomers' on this thread may not know are also followers of this thread. It wouldn't speak well of enough if at their first click, they see tantrum throwing on this thread.
Oga Manie, I apologise on their behalf o! wink

While I throw tantrums in other threads, engage in e-wars in some (especially politics section), I have the utmost respect for this particular one. Being a thread for teachers (Nobilities), I, myself, individually, personally, and single-handedly have to be civil here. cheesy

I got my first 'correct' job here, and will always be grateful to God for that. And so, after crossing the bridge, I wouldn't want such a valuable bridge to be damaged... Let me also use this opportunity to reach out to my pals on this thread;
GoldenDr; I salute Oga patapata o!
Manie; The father of all aspiring youth. Daddy, forgive us of our shortcomings o.
Artisticallyart; Na you biko, before you na you, after you na still you.
Evathyst; My personal padi. the runaway teacher turned make up artist.
Sunnypar; the unrelentless achiever.
Upload111; chairman planning committee.
IDrock; the man whose goodwill is as strong as a rock.
Islamics; Our nothern correspondent.
Uglychick; Fine girl with scary monicker. Lolz.
STENON; the new kid on block. You still never tell me the part of Osun state you hail from o.
Peybuttons; Aunty, na we we o!

Every other esteemed personalities who have never ceased to contribute to this wonderful thread, but whose numerous monickers I don't seem to remember at the moment, I greet all of una o!
May we all continue to move from glory to glory. One love everybody.

i am moved beyond words . I have been doing some thinking for a while whether to stop posting or participating on the thread cos of some above mentioned ish u stated (*saying to myself afterall i am no longer in the teaching field) but reading through this your post ,i am beyond just touched. Thanks a lot. sometimes one needs some sort of motivation every now and then..
i was saving my hustle story for the get together but since that has been shelved,i might as well share it here. MY STORY UPLOADING....>>>> 10%...47%....58%....

Na wa o. What wouldn't we see? Mandatory night vigil in a school!

My dear sister, I wouldn't have believe it myself if I was told by someone else. To be candid, there are some ridiculous conditions that are need to be met by the applicants before they can be employed. Very ridiculous...There is a Yoruba adage that says, nibi ti eyan ba rin de, ibe lo ma ri mo. You go hear some conditions, you no go know aw to reply, u go just open mouth.
