Be it in the movies or in music industry, northern artistes are a great force to be reckoned with wherever they are. Is it the swags, the look or intelligence, northern artistes are not left out of the game. From Fati Niger, Nafisat Abdulahi to Mohammed Yakubu Sadiq Sani, name them.

These are some of the popular northern entertainers in rave

2face:

2Face is one of the most respected northern entertainers in the industry that his influence cut across all tribes and region. The Benue State-born artiste established an NGO called 2Face Idibia Reach-Out Foundation.In 2009, 2Face was appointed an ambassador by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control. He released a song “Man Unkind” to raise awareness on the menace of fake and sub-standard food and drug products in Nigeria. He’s a recipient of the International Youth Ambassador for Peace and the Nigeria Youth Merit Award by the National Youth Council of Nigeria in recognition of his contributions to youth development in Nigeria. 2Face has received the MTV Europe Music Award, the World Music Award, five Headies Awards (Hip-hop award), four Channel O Music Video Awards and the BET Award for his musical work, four MTV Africa Music Awards, the MOBO Award, the KORA Award and other numerous awards and nominations.



Ice Prince:

Panshak Zamani aka Ice Prince, who is also the current winner of the LEADERSHIP Entertainer of the Year Award is a Nigerian hip hop recording artiste. He rose to fame after releasing “Oleku”, one of Nigeria’s most remixed songs of all times. As a northerner, he has represented the region across the globe and won the 2009 Hennessy Artistry Club Tour. His achievements include the BET Award, Ghana Music Award, three The Headies Awards, two Nigeria Entertainment Awards, Channel O Music Video Award, Ben TV Award, Best Male Hip Hop Artist Himself, 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Award and many others. He’s currently signed to Chocolate City.



Rahama Ibrahim:

The Kaduna State-born Rahama Ibrahim Sadau has been described as one of the hottest Kannywood actresses on the scene at the moment. Rahama, who has a huge fan base in the north, recently won Best New Actress (Kannywood) at City People Awards 2014. She has also won different awards and she’s a force to be reckoned with in the industry.



Jesse Jagz:

Jesse Garba Abaga aka Jesse Jagz, is a Nigerian rapper, singer, producer and songwriter. In April 2015, he re-signed with Chocolate City after leaving the label in May 2012 to establish his own imprint known as Jagz Nation.

He’s one of the best producers Nigeria can boast of and the north should be proud of this influence. He has won Best Producer of the Year – Splurge Magazine Best Rap Single 2008

Producer of the Year – The Future Awards 2010, Lyricist on the roll – Hip Hop World Awards (Headies), 2014. He’s a nice and calm guy.



Ali Nuhu:

Nuhu who has been nominated for the prestigious LEADERSHIP Entertainer of the Year Award is a Nigerian actor, producer and director and regarded as one of the most prominent figures in Kannywood. He is an ambassador for Globacom and had won numerous awards including the Best Upcoming Actor Award at the 3rd Africa Movie Academy Awards. He was nominated as the Best Actor in a supporting role at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards and won Best Actor in a film at the 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. His stint in Nollywood generated a lot of controversies but all has died down.



MI:

Mr incredible is the most incredible thing that has ever happened to the north. The brother of Jesse Jagz emerged Nigeria’s most financially successful rapper. He’s the current CEO of the Chocolate City Music. He has won several awards including the MTV Africa Music Awards 2009. He was nominated in the Best International Act category at the BET Award 2010. He rose to prominence in 2006 when his song “Crowd Mentality” became popular in Jos. He won the Best Rap Album 2009 –HipHop World Award, Hip Hop Revelation 2009 – HipHop World Award, Best New Act of the Year 2009, Nigerian Entertainment Award – Best Rap Single 2008 – HipHop World Award, Musician of the Year, Modemen Awards 2008; Best Hip Hop – MTV Africa Music Award 2009, Best New Act – MTV Africa Music Award 2009, Best Use of Special Effects in a video – NMVA 2009.

He also won the Best Mainstream Hiphop Video – NMVA 2009, Musician of the Year – The Future Award 2010, Musician of the Year – City People 2010, Artiste of the Year – National Daily 2010, Musician of the Year – Malaysian African, Entertainment Award 2010.



Halima Abubakar:

Halima Abubakar is one of the damsels of the make-believe industry. The Nigerian actress is from Kogi State but was born in Kano State. She has won the Afro Hollywood Best Actress Award. She began acting in 2001 when she played a minor role in “Rejected.” Her first lead role was in “Gangster Paradise.” She is also the CEO of Modehouse Entertainment, a music label and entertainment management company.



Sani Danja:

Sani Musa Danja is a household name in the Hausa movie industry. The chairman of Guild of Hausa Film Artistes, a board member of the National Film Corporation of Nigeria and the northern youth mobilisation officer of the National Youth Council of Nigeria. He’s a prominent member of Kannywood and was born in Fagge, Fagge local government, Kano State. Sani Danja is a recipient of Afro Hollywood Award for Best Actor in London, Star of Islam Award in Ghana, SIM Award for Best Actor, City People Magazine Award for Best Actor and Producer of the Year, National Arts and Culture Award for Best Entrepreneur of the Year, African Business Round Table-Entertainer of the Year 2015.

I thought 2 Face is a Middle belter?Benue.

Aside Ice Prince and M.I,not familiar with the other names. But i am happy seeing those from the North holding their own, in the entertainment industry.

Oh middle belt isn't North again? I hope you remember this when more appointment comes from there. You only generalized the North when it's time for wailing.
