A 42-year-old herbalist, Lamidi Ibrahim, was
Tuesday arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate
Court sitting in Ikeja for allegedly converting his
apartment to a shrine. Ibrahim, who turned his rented
apartment into a shrine, was charged
for breach of peace and conspiracy. While testifying in court, the
Prosecutor, Sgt Kehinde Olatunde,
said the accused who resides at No. 9,
Awopeju Close, Iju-Ishaga, Agege
area of the State committed the
offences on August 31 at his residence. The prosecutor noted that Ibrahim,
alongside others now at large,
conspired to cause a breach of the
peace by illegally converting a rented
room into a shrine, adding that he and
his cohorts usually performed rituals and disturbed the peace of neighbours. Olatunde said, “The accused always
buries charms in the compound,
thereby disturbing the peace of co-
tenants and all efforts to caution him
always resulted in threat to life. “He
also performed rituals, sacrifices, including spiritual cleansing in the
premises.” He added that the apartment was also
used by fraudsters to carry out
fraudulent activities. “The accused brings people of
questionable character to the premises
to perpetrate fraudulent acts and
engage in smoking of hemp,” Olatunde
said. According to Olatunde, the offences
contravened Sections 166 and 410 of
the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011,
which prescribes six months jail-term
for offenders. When the charges were read, the
accused pleaded not guilty and the
Magistrate, Mr A.O. Aka-Bashorun,
consequently granted him bail in the
sum of N100, 000 with one surety in
like sum. Aka-Bashorun, adjourned the case to
October 10 for mention.

Tenant: (from within) take off your shoes and come in.

Landlord: (removes shoes trembling, opens door and goes in) okaramo, the eyes of the gods i greet you.

Tenant: you are welcome. To what do i owe this visit?

Landlord: (visibly trembling and sweating) erm, yo..your rent is du..due eyes of the gods. And i wa..i wa..was just wondering if you won't be angry to renew... I mean to stay in my house and dash me some money. I'm not demaning for rent o. I'm just begging...
