Contrary to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) criticisms of President Muhammadu Buhari's administration, a former national chairman of the party Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has said President Buhari has not deviated from his campaign promises to Nigerians.
He said Buhari promised Nigerians to tackle corruption, end insurgency and unemployment and has since hit the ground running with efforts yielding positive results.
Addressing newsmen ahead of his 80th birthday anniversary, coming up next Tuesday, Tukur cautioned politicians not to allow religion and ethnicity to becloud their political views.
The former PDP boss advised that Buhari's appointment of ministers should not be based on who want the job but based on credible, experienced and incorruptible persons with proven integrity who would man the affairs of the various ministries and make a difference.
He said politics should be built on the virtues of justice, equity and fairness to ensure that the country's democracy is deepened.
Tukur said if he were the PDP national chairman who led the party to the March/April general elections, the party would have won, adding that the people had however, voted the party out after 16 years of administering the affairs of the nation at the centre.
He noted that he would not leave the PDP for another political party at 80, just because it lost the elections, adding that in a democracy there must be a ruling party and an opposition party.
