President Buhari Explains Why Corruption Is The Cause Of Poverty In Nigeria by MediaBlog(op): 2:27am On Sep 14, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari has identified and saying in a statement that corruption is the main cause of poverty in Nigeria – President Buhari – who also explained why corruption is the main reason for the number of poverty rate in the Nigeria saying that two-thirds of Nigerians are exremely poor.

Vice President , Prof Yemi Osinbajo, President Catholic Bishop of Nigeria, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State during the Catholic Bishop Conference took place in Port Harcourt on Sunday.

President Buhari spoke in Port Harcourt, Sunday, at the Second Plenary of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Nigeria.

To recall that President Buahari had earlier in February attended the First Plenary as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

In his good-will message delivered on his behalf by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the President declared that corruption had eaten deep into the fabrics of the nation.

However, promised to uproot the hazard saying that was the only way Nigeria could be saved.

He stated: “Corruption in our country is common to the point that it constitutes a parallel system. It is the primary reason for poor policy decisions, waste and obviously, bare- faced theft of public assets.

“Our fight against corruption is not just a moral fight for virtue and righteousness in our land, it is a fight for the soul and substance of our country.

“It is the main reason why a possibly rich country struggles to feed itself and create jobs for millions.”

The President also hinged infant mortality deaths on the greed of some leaders.

He said: “The huge number of deaths in the infant and maternal death statistics, the hundreds of thousands of annual deaths from preventable sicknesses are traceable to the greed and corruption of a few. This is the reason we must see it as an human existence threat. If we don’t kill it, it will kill us.”

On the Country’s security, the President said: “We are on course to militarily defeat Boko Haram, and make them unequipped of taking and holding territory.“ He added that suicide bombings in some parts of the North East are the fearful acts of the terrorists to create a feeling that they are still in play.

“With vigilant watchfulness and great neighborhood intelligence, we will make those fearful acts practically impossible,” he promised.

The president also emphasized on the need to create the empowering environment where there would be equal open door – opportunity for everyone to develop their potentials and add to their possibilities, focusing on the importance of a social welfare scheme to provide for the helpless and less privileged.

“We must change the way of thinking about our economy and the ultimate good of the majority. While we create an empowering environment for free businesses, we must reason, plan and budget with the understanding that almost two-thirds of our people are very poor, and must be helped first to survive and then to fully participate in the country’s economy.

“We must create a safety net for the poor and helpless while ensuring that social spending is also a direct investment in the nation’s economy. We must invest significantly in relevant education, teacher training, and professional and entrepreneurial training,” he added.

Expressing “warm happy messages on behalf of the government and people of our great nation Nigeria”, to the conference, President Buhari also said that he has always been “impressed with the social awareness showed by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference.”

He told the conference that it has also played a vital role in the stability of the country.

“Your quick critical interventions at various crucial moments in our national trip have helped to caution, warn and eventually stabilize the society. This is as it should be. This nation belongs to us all. Leaders in every sector owe it as a obligation to this generation to contribute in building a great society.

“For us elected into government, we have since set the difficult tasks before us, with energy and commitment in the full assurance that by the grace of God, our country will get to be safe, secure, prosperous and virtuous,” the president said.

In the Conference’s President speech, Most Revd Igantius Kaigama, the Archbishop of Jos, thanked the Buhari administration’s commitment to the fight against corruption and in the construction of a Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-Corruption.

According to him, “the president is right that if we don’t kill corruption, corruption will kill us.” He also prayed that God will give the citizens of Nigeria a new heart.

Earlier, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike praised the Catholic Church for its apolitical (not political) posture in the state, calling on other churches to emulate it.

Corruption, the cause of poverty especially in the North.

Overpopulation, self inflicted poverty by their Elites(Alhajis), some of the cause.

The rich(alhajis) keep getting richer and fewer, while the poor(almajeris) keep getting poorer and increasing.

Talk, Talk, Talk all the time. We are tired of hearing corruption did this and that. Even a lay man knows this just as a semi-illitrate like ... Knows and always sings about it. Just bring out your practicable solution not theoritical jargon.

The desired poverty is of the masses, corruption is of the elites. The masses supports the elite in impoverishing them through corruption.

Thus the fight against corruption should start from the masses, with the support of the right legislation and judicial system. All hands must be on deck

The present administration is determined to fight corruption that's the reason their party is fielding a corrupt Abubakar Audu as candidate for Kogi Governorship poll. Audu is the same man that is having case with court and EFCC over fleecing Kogi of their billions when he was Governor between 99 and 2003. The party is also set to field another corrupt Sylva of Bayelsa state. Indeed, Abacha was not corrupt

PMB is only a saint when you define sainthood within the context of Abacha.
