989900:Allow me to draw you back to the crux of the argument.. NA wants to start up an air wing..laudable Someone questions the point, especially when we have an under-performing Airforce that needs to be strengthened. Another party tells him off, insinuating he's backward, suggesting that since American Army, Marines and Navy all have Air wings/divisions, Nigeria should have same. I find it out of order to always compare ourselves with America in almost every sphere of Nigerian life..We need to compare ourselves first with our mates, before we look higher. |

Hope this clarifies and puts to rest the need for army aviation. An army aviation unit is an aviation-related unit of a nation's army, often described as an air corps. These units are generally separate from a nation's dedicated air force, and usually comprise helicopters and light support fixed-wing aircraft.this The tasks of each army's aviation units are defined slightly different, depending on nationality. Some general characteristics, however, apply to all army aviation units regardless of provenience: Logistic and battlefield support Tactical transport both internally and externally, of personnel and material Assault duties and anti-tank warfare Search and rescue Medical evacuation Reconnaissance and fire support in a combined arms team Surveillance Liaison Flying training Disaster relief In order to fulfill their manifold tasks, army aviation mostly uses helicopters. These helicopters can be classified into the following categories: Attack helicopters for close air support of ground troops and anti-tank role Transport helicopters Observation helicopters Utility helicopters CSAR, Casualty Evacuation (CASEVAC)/MEDEVAC helicopters Training helicopters In addition to helicopters, many armies also operate fixed-wing aircraft. They include the following categories: Reconnaissance Surveillance Transport Airborne command post List of countries with dedicated army aviation unit 1st Army Aviation Brigade (Greece) (Hellenic Army) Argentine Army Aviation (Argentine Army) Army Air Corps (United Kingdom) (British Army) Army Aviation Corps (India) (Indian Army) Australian Army Aviation (Australian Army) Brazilian Army Aviation Command (Brazilian Army) Colombian National Army Aviation (Colombian Army) French Army Light Aviation (French Army) German Army Aviation Corps (German Army) Indonesian Army Aviation (Indonesian Army) Iranian Army Aviation (Iranian Army) Italian Army Aviation (Italian Army) Malaysian Army Aviation (Malaysian Army) Nepalese Army Air Service (Nepal Army) Pakistan Army Aviation Corps (Pakistan Army) People's Liberation Army Ground Force Aviation (People's Liberation Army Ground Force) Polish Army Aviation (Polish Land Forces) Portuguese Army Light Aviation Unit (Portuguese Army) Republic of China Army Aviation and Special Forces Command (Republic of China Army) Republic of Korea Army Aviation (Republic of Korea Army) Royal Thai Army Aviation (Royal Thai Army) Spanish Army Airmobile Force (Spanish Army) Turkish Army#Turkish Land Force Aviation (Turkish Army) United States Army So Google and wikipedia helps rather than argue blindly and trying to be a doctor on an army aviation thread Last shot, Nigeria will need to have deep strike capability and that is where the air force needs to be upgraded. It already has rotary platforms for other utility uses. NAF needs Su-30 and the JF-17 thunder like yesterday. I am out jump in the lagoon if I in anyway hurt your feelings. It's a small price to the lives of our guys we lost in combat. |

gabng:you are right my man.when some of them come hear to say rubbish I just imagine what sort of mind they have.its standard for an army to have air capability of its own in as much as it does not take away the capability and role of the AIRFORCE.imagine even some country's Air gaurd and coast guard having far more air power than our AIRFORCE.the army should have its own attack helicopters |
