Your definition of the term "WorldClass" differs from mine then.

Imo If a Footballer at any given point in time is amongst the top2-3 players in his position, then that player can be/should be seen as Worldclass. So the likes of Ferdinand,Terry,Carvalho,Ayala and Puyol were all worldclass at some point in their careers.

I also heard you talk about how they faired in comparison to stars from the past. Now that's an entirely different issue altogether. That's also where the term "Legends" comes in. All footballing legends at some point in time were world class players however not all worldclass players would turn out to be Legends of the game by the time their careers are over.

I disagree with the bold. There are times where there is actually a drought of talents either nationally or globally

That you are top 3 among the crap left wouldnt make you world class in my book. E.g there is a scarcity of top full backs in football currently especially under 30yrs, That wouldnt suddenly make Luke Shaw, Ricardo Rodriguez or Coentrao world class players assuming they are the top 3 left in the world when the senior ones have retired

E.g due to exuberant talents in his position when he was at his peak, someone like Totti might never get to be top 3 in his position

Thats why I think setting the bar it doesnt matter if 20 players make it now or only 1 person make it at another time
