The shia/sunni conflict always remind me of the game of throne movie where 7 families were fighting on who will destroy the lanisters so that they can take over the leadership of the 7 kingdoms. Here the Sunnis (the saudis) defeated the shia (Iraq and Iran) to assume leadership of the Muslim world.

Lemme use the same approach you used now: Yes, some Shias do this and its against the teachings of Islam. Muslims are commanded not to inflict pains on themselves to the point of committing suicide, it's forbidden in Islam. The Catholics are emulating the suffering of Christ at the hands of the Romans who propagated and spread Christianity. Even today the headquarters of Christianity is in Italy which was a former Roman Empire!

Filipino Catholics do this not Catholics , big difference.

Plus it is not encouraged by the catholic church, infact its considered a heretical practise by the church..and effort has been made to discourage them from do this , I have seen documentaries on this but have not researched it. My guess is that it is culture creeping into faith. I will study more on it. Its appalling.

Jesus can't stone the woman because the punishment for adultery under the Roman Empire wasn't Stoning to death. If Jesus had ordered the Stoning then he would be in trouble with the authorities. The jews wanted to test Jesus thinking he wasn't smart, if Jesus said "don't stone her", the Jews would quickly accuse him of not being the messiah and not following the law, if he said "stone her" they knew he would be in trouble with the authorities.

So they tried to play Jesus with "head or tail, I win". But Jesus being smart told them if indeed they were righteous, they should stone her! Assuming the society was pure Jewish, that woman would have been stoned. Use ya brain old man!

So, you believe that narration from the bible? What stops you believing other biblical narrations? The bible cannot be wished away.
