PMB would rather shut down the Senate than allow PDP or Ekweremadu, the ibo slave, take over the Senate Presidency.

Sai Buhari!
He would rather give rm for boko boys to bomb the Senate.

The calculation is very obvious. The battle between Saraki and the APC godfathers is an all-loser battle, no matter the outcome.

Should Saraki be removed, PDP will capture the Senate presidency/leadership; should Saraki remain in office, any ministerial nominee emanating or related to the godfathers will never scale through.
How does PDP intend to capture the Senate Presidency? grin

Do you think David Mark wants to Piss off Jagaban or President Buhari right now?

Who would dare stick out their necks against the President as it is?

You people seem not to appreciate the impact of CHANGE as brought to us by APC.

If PDP wants the Senate Presidency, they should better find a Saint with no blemish from amongst their lot to run because any baggar that steps up would be cut down.

Dont sum pdp senators as 49. They are actually 50 because Saraki is a senator and will never vote for an APC replacement.

Typical one-way analysis.

Get this, politics is pure mathematics. What makes you think the other APC rebels would not cave in after Saraki is bereft of power? Political survival is key here, and you think PDP (a party that just lost power) can guarantee them that? The APC rebels will eventually realign with the party, at least for now, to fight another day.

It's obvious that the APC rebels used PDP. And from what I can see on my tea leaves, they will dump PDP sooner than later!
Am suprised you think your analysis is not one sided too. Do you think the PDP senators will let go easily, they will make it hard for APC government if only to give Buhari a bloody nose. How long will APC government continue thier fight when there are so many urgent and important issue than the tussle in the Senate.
The only looser are Nigerians and the state of the economy.

I think APC is playing childish politics by trying to witch hunt Saraki... In my opinion should Saraki loose his appeal, APC will loose senate Presidency.

I don't even know why all these media outfits are giving PDP hope. As far as this country is concerned PDP will not lead the Senate. I don't know many of those senators that is as smart as Bukoka  Saraki, who wants to get into the black book of Buhari /Tinubu  not even David Mark. How many people saw this Saraki's trial coming from the angle of CCB, not even Saraki himself. Almost all the senators are corrupt because it was easy to be corrupt during the past 16 years of PDP ruling, so there is always a way to nail anyone when the need be. So I can confidently confirm that all these surface analysis would have worked only if all things were equal in the past the way it starts to be now,  if this country had been freed of corruption in the past 16 years, if stealing had been seen as corruption in the past. PDP gave APC the platform they are riding on now and I trust Asiwaju to crush anyone standing on the riding track. PDP would have become a Senate President if Politic was mathematics but nay politics ain't mathematics. The only person that will ever lead the Senate will have to be the anointed candidate of Buhari/Tinubu. Just watch as events unfold.

All efforts to get him out have so far failed.

What do you think would be different for the Senate Presidency?

APC is currently playing defensive.[/size]

No one will be suprissed over this your dumbest post if Buhari who himself is a dunce, one of the most illitrate and a president who does not know his left from his left. If you and Buhari is an inch senseble, why would the Thieffnubus, the half inch rod neck Buhari waited until today to try Saraki. If Saraki had obeyed your unpopular apc inhouse rules, would the Thieffnubu, Buhari ever think of trying him?

The question one is wont to ask is where are the nonexistent powers you guys ascribe to Tinubu?

The last time I checked he couldn't point to any key national political battle he has won.

His candidates for both chambers of the National Assembly were roundly trounced.

His nominee of a Vice President is nothing more than a veritable figurehead. Prof Osinbajo is making Namadi Sango look like some kind of power broker.

Despite all the propaganda being sponsored by the apparent suspect, the stark reality is that Saraki refuses to cower before Tinubu. Infact the witch-hunt is looking like backfiring.

Where then are Tinubu's powers? Don't tell me that Buhari is with him in all his machinations. The Hausa-Fulani establishment is not known for making basic political conjectures...

Tinubu is a strong Party leader of the APC.. No contesting it. He was one of the brains behind the merger of the political parties that birth the APC.

If you ask what Political battle he has won, remember this: His candidate and party still retains his state of Lagos and his party has the Presidency and majority seats in both the upper and lower houses of legislature.

To compare Professor Osibanjo to Namadi Sambo is like comparing a Dog to a Lion, Namadi Sambo wouldn't last 10 minutes in a debate with the Professor. Also remember that the office of the Vice President carries very few responsibilities except those delegated to him by the presidency. So far, the Professor has acted well.

The stark reality is that Saraki is guilty of Anti-party behavior which is about to cost him the seat of the Senate presidency and maybe even his seat in the Senate. Cowering to Tinubu or not, he has faltered the law in his bid to outsmart his Party leadership and he is going to pay the price. He who lives in a glass house does not throw stones..

See how smart Saraki is; his deputy is a member of the opposition, he has at least 6 loyal apc senate friends. Impeach him and the opposition take over, remove him and the opposition still take over (cos his friends ain't gonna be very happy And just 6 of them is required to give the opposition simple majority). No wonder Saraki is a medical doctor. I don't know Tinubu tho, and Buhari still has some issues with his p cert. Lol
Re: APC May Lose Senate Presidency To PDP - Thisday by gfullmoon(m): 2:38pm On Sep 28, 2015
If Saraki goes down except he goes to prison,he wouldn't do so without putting up a fight,he'll make sure PDP captures the Senate President if not for anything to still have a little respect in the Chamber. Then if he goes to prison, the seat will become too hot for any person without the approval of the President/APC Leaders. The fear of Prison will become the beginning of wisdom for most Senators,so most Senators even David Mark will not find the seat attractive again. Then if Saraki knowing or unknowingly stale the Confirmation of any Ministerial Nominee except on corruption ground he will incur the wrath of many Nigerians who are desperate for Ministers to be appointed with its attendant ''job'' creation in terms of PAs,SAs,stomach infrastructures etc and that will make his downfall faster. To me staling any Nominee confirmation for whatsoever reason outside corruption,Saraki will have put another nail to his coffin and thus digging his grave faster than expected. Clearing all the Ministerial Nominees will attract public sympathy to his trials for not fighting dirty even when he had the opportunity and those after his ouster will not have more reasons to invoke other BANNANA PEELS. If you said politics is dirty,go there and wash it with your own detergent. I am using Hypo already....

menesheh:
Senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are intensifying their plot to take over the senate should Senate President Bukola Saraki fail to survive his ongoing legal battles, which they view as power play among contending forces within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

THISDAY got wind of the plot from some of the Senators, who have been meeting over the development in the senate and the travails of Senator Saraki.

Saraki, whose emergence as Senate President was as a result of the overwhelming support given to him by PDP senators despite his party’s opposition to his aspiration for the topmost position in the senate, is currently facing a 13-count charge of alleged false declaration of assets at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

There had been allegations that the current travails of Saraki were aimed at easing him out of the office of the Senate President. But the PDP lawmakers are confident that should there be a need for votes to pick a presiding officer, the party’s caucus is in a good stead to determine who presides over the upper chamber.

Their confidence is predicated on a simple extrapolation of numbers and alliances. For instance, the Senate has 109 seats, with one of the seats vacant as a result of death. The remaining 108 are made up of 59 APC senators and 49 PDP senators.
While the APC caucus is divided over the emergence of Saraki as Senate President, the PDP caucus remains intact, and would only need 11 more Senators to fulfil the constitutional stipulation of one third votes to produce the Senate President.

It was gathered that the PDP senators have also realised that one of the problems President Muhammadu Buhari and others seemed to have with Saraki is the emergence of Senator Ike Ekweremadu as the Deputy Senate President, and are of the view that should Saraki be removed, the APC would not be satisfied until Ekweremadu is also removed – consequently forcing members of the PDP caucus to stay together as a united team to be able to assert themselves and get what they need.

Their calculation is that if APC successfully used the judiciary or other means to remove Saraki, the PDP which already has access to the Senate President's core supporters in APC, would reach out to them, since they are already endangered and aggrieved. This way, they will get the required one third to elect either Senator David Mark or Ekweremadu as Senate President.

According to some members of the PDP caucus, should Mark emerge, his acceptance will be easier because he is still respected among ranking senators, who would all rally round him. Ekweremadu’s choice is believed to be strategic too because of the way the current administration is seen to be treating the Igbos, therefore using his Senate Presidency to balance the lopsided power equation in the country would be the way to go.

In addition, the PDP senators are said to have gone far in their plot such that they already have the understanding of their APC allies that in the worst case scenario that they come face-to-face with threat from the APC leadership (which is most likely), some of them would absent themselves from sitting on the day of the election of a new Senate leadership.

Some of the senators who spoke to THISDAY in confidence on the issue were of the view that should that happen, the new leadership would endure because while its requires a simple majority to elect the Senate President and his deputy, what is needed to remove them is a two-third majority - a number the APC cannot muster in both instances given the current dynamics in the senate, politically and in terms of numbers.

Citing lack of capacity to manage success in a critical institution like the Senate, some of the PDP senators are of the view that a party that is uncoordinated and lacking internal cohesion is evidently unable to lead a critical arm of government like the Senate, much less the country.

The PDP Senators noted that they had every opportunity to have seized the leadership of the Senate at inauguration but chose to be democratic and exhibit political maturity. However, with the development in the Senate, the PDP Senators argued that the need to save the Senate from the greed of some APC leaders had become inevitable, hence their resolve to take over the senate in the event that a need to elect a new leadership arises.

The lawmakers also noted that after all, the Senate in the last few years, especially under the PDP Senate President David Mark, did a lot, not only to stabilise the institution, but the country in general through its many interventions at critical periods in the nation’s political evolution.

I Don't think PDP needs up to 11 senators tho. Voting is mutually exclusive fo a senator.. plainly speaking 59-6=53, 49+6=55. So PDP needs just 6 senators to form a simple majority.

Your closing statement is spot on, and it's something that should bother Nigerians. As it stands, I doubt if there is any anus without faeces in the entire NASS.

Saraki is most likely going to be removed and banned from occupying any public office for a period of at least, ten years. I think this may usher us to a festival of witch hunting.

Let's join hands together and pray for this nation.

Pdp are deluding themselves if they think that the APC would not repair their inner drift and come 2geda as one to project a senate president if saraki is removed...Apc on the other hand should start working towards settling any internal disputes but should do this without the knowledge of the pdp and keep on stringing them along until the D-day of electing the senate president comes whereby they would make a fool of the pdp and totally render them incapacitated....cos if things should continue the way it is(with pdp gradually infiltrating the apc),I predict some APC defecting to pdp on the long run and swinging the advantage of the 2/3 house votes over to the pdp.
