THE House of Representatives
yesterday, covertly backed the
embattled President of the
Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki by
calling for a probe of his perjury
trial. The House also called for
the protection of principal
officers of the National
Assembly against external
attacks.

Following the recent incursion of the executive and judiciary arms into the legislative arm of government, the national assembly must stand up to protect itself from becoming subject of ridicule or be seen as the weakest arm of government. This it can achieve by passing a bill that will protect the senate president, the speaker and their deputies from external harrasment. In the event that the president refuses to give his assent to the bill, the constitution allows 2/3rd majority to override the president's veto.

I believe in separation of powers for sustainable democracy.

Happy indepence day Nigeria.

i understand if this write up doesn't support the sinister motives of your paymasters in lagos. But i wrote it out of patriotism not just to secure our present democracy, but to also facilitate its growth and sustainance in future.

You have no idea what this means, even such clause for executive arm leaves the nation with uncontrollable corruption and issues. Have you even taken your time to weigh the productivity and usefulness of these so called lawmakers? Maybe saraki is being witch-hunted here, the truth is, some of his people also hate him for corruption, why preserving such people ?

Is it really necessary? The chamber immunity they enjoy is enough (I heard arrest can't be made in the assembly chambers) Saraki is only suffering for his sins.

Bad! I think the whole National Assembly thing in Nigeria is a joke. It should be scraped and replaced with a better arrangement that will cost nothing or little to maintain.

These people are just too full of themselves.

Instead of seeking ways to protect themselves from the evil of their past, Nigerians will prefer we pay the Lawmakers per seating. Their salaries and allowances should be split in days. The days they sit, that is when they get paid.
