The truth of the matter is that any profession could be learned be it medicine, law or accounting without going through the four walls of the university . What makes it seem as if some cannot be learned by anybody is the regulations put in place by some profession to check free entry and exit. However you should bear in mind that learning could be vocational or otherwise. You could learn by reading a book and u cud also learn by watching someone. I have heard of a man who practiced law and won court cases for a long while before he was discovered not to have a certificate just because he worked with lawyers for a long time. Same for medicine. The courses started as a vocational training before it was 'tushed'. The bottom line is that going to school enhances your skill, it doesn't mean it's the only place learning can take place@op |

This is an incredibly shallow "article" (if it can be called that). ![]() I generally avoid negative statements, but the arguments presented sound badly uninformed. ANYONE can get up and proclaim themselves ANYTHING. That doesn't mean they'll execute the same expertise as a true "professional" in that field. There might be the odd one or two who excel, but we're talking about the rule and not the exception. |

Remove No.6 from your list. Chemistry will soon be professionalised. Chemical handling is not an all-comers affair. |

What you know about is electrical technician. a technician CANNEVER stand in the stead of an electrical engineer. wiring a house is not the definition of electrical engineer. that same house the technical man wired was designed by an engineer. the design entails consideration of illumination, spacing between fittings, fuse ratings, and a number of factors that cannot be mentioned here. a technician may have been wiring houses locally for 30years, but if hes told to plan the wiring design for a bank or hospital he'll flaw. if hes told to install solar or wind power, he'll mope, if hes told to wire a house in lekki for instance with automation of changeovers, installation of LDRs even if he sees the wiring diagram, he'll need help. trust me! I read electrical engineering for 5 years, and when I came to learn the practical aspect on the streets, I knew in 2 hours what those illiterates learned in 10years. no sane person will prefer these illiterates to do sensitive installations over an engineer. the difference is so wide! I grew up knowing some electricians on my street. today im not their mate in that field. I know what they can do and where they can do it up to. and they dont even know why they do what they do. they only follow the way their ogas taught them before freedom. an engineer can reason and change things when necessary. |

You forgot to add 'blogger'. By this hilarious post you have just confirmed the saying that half education is a dangerous thing. Electrical engineer = electrician? Mechanical engineer= mechanic? Honestly you should be selling butter bread at motor park. HighIQ: |

chinoasa:did I see doctor or radiology on that list? Do you think is easy to spend 6yrs in school, 1yrs internship and 1yrs nysc making it 8yrs to be a doctor. Yea some doctors do work in banks probably because of the non availability of job at the time they applied, that doesn't mean anybody can be doctor expect you are referring to traditional doctors that deal on local medicine. Radiologist well, I might agree partially with you. |

Pavore9:Even at that, there is a difference between a professional and a non professional. There are cases that chemist owners can handle that they meet professional. Professionals here include medical doctors and other para medical staff. Professinals know the drugs to adminster, their dosage( at times they increase the dosage above the normal one which most chemist don't do because they are able to monitor their patients. Is it treating of wounds especially severe ones or offering of good first aid, professionals handle that very well more than chemist. It is only in Nigeria or perharps west africa that chemist sell drugs without doctor's prescription |
