Nigeria’s former President, Goodluck Jonathan has been recommended for the Nobel Peace Prize by a public policy organisation on African affairs, the Africa Political & Economic Strategic Center (AFRIPOL).
The organisation noted that the will of Alfred Nobel, the progenitor of Nobel Prize stated that Peace Prize be awarded to whoever “shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses”.
Accordingly the organisation held that the ‘peaceful way President Jonathan conceded to President-elect Buhari deserves the attention of Nobel Peace Prize committee. He may have not promoted “fraternity between nations” but he surely promotes fraternal peace among Nigerians by conceding power.’
The group maintained that the “concession speech by President Jonathan averted bloodshed, violence and imbroglio in the most populous country in Africa. This gesture by Jonathan [sic] buttressed to the whole world that Nigeria has joined the comity of civilized nations. Nigeria can be said to have shown great leadership in Africa and made Africans in general and Nigerians in particular to comprehend that transfer of power does not need to be violent but rather peaceful as heralded by the outgoing president of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan.”

Sorry to burst your bubble OP, the Noble peace prize was yesterday awarded to a Tunisian quartet that initiated a peace dialogue to save Tunisia from descending into anarchy in 2013/2014. No Noble peace prize for your GEJ this year.

Any body/organization that gives any award to Jonathan must definitely be a useless organization.

Jonathan only deserves to be stone like the thief he is....Infact in a more saner society, a person like Jonathan would have been hanged a long time ago.

May people not only stone your father, may they also spit on him and ostracise him forever.

Your wish for GEJ shall follow you all the days of your useless life.

There is always next year. Afterall, the Tunisia democratic group were awarded for their bravery and diplomacy a year after they achieved that peaceful feat. GEJ will be awarded the Swedish coins next year or the year after that.

GEJ did absolutely nothing to deserve a Noble peace prize and he will never get it. Many president and prime ministers have lost elections and they handed over peaceful without any problem. When you lose a free and fair election, the normal thing is to concede defeat and move on. Nobody deserves an award for losing a re-election and definitely, not a GEJ whose government was marred with serious cases of corruption and gross incompetence.

Keep on deceiving yourself. The Noble peace prize committee only announced the winner and not nominees. Beside, stop making GEJ look good, reports from the international media shows he was never considered.

Joyce Banda lost her re-election to Peter Mutarika in Malawi and Tumbull defeated Tony Abbot in parliamentary election last month in Australia. Both of them handed over without demanding for Noble peace prize.

Rwandan genocide was not as a result of an incumbent not handing over after losing a national election. Get some education before arguing on a public forum.

LOL, some village champions think Nobel Peace Prize is coke or something they can bribe to attain like paying off some judge in Nigeria. Jonathan should be given a Nobel Peace prize for stepping down after losing an election in a country he almost destoyed with poor leadership? When people call you people backwards now you will claim offence, this is why some people don't take Africa seriously. See how low your esteem is.

ODOYO, can't you see that I put Rwanda, guinea and Burundi as examples. This are all countries with heads of state seeking constitutional changes that will grant them an extension to their rule. The Rwandan president, Paul kagame just got the courts to approve his third term bid. You are here, commenting on politics, without brushing up on current political events.

The fact that an African statesman would even be considered for a Nobel Peace Prize simply for accepting defeat in an election is a big indication of what a long way Africans still have to go. That recommendation was nothing but a celebration of mediocrity, something Africans do all too well and often.

His Excellency Dr Goodluck Ebelemi Jonathan deserves the Noble Peace Prize of 2015. My position is premise on the fact that he took a decision that averted a potential civil crisis in the country. It was not just about concession of defeat, it was actually about concession of defeat that averted potential crisis. We can all recall the event of 2011 and how President Buhari who was opposition candidate refused to accept defeat nor calm nerves when the crisis erupted. If GEJ had insisted on contesting the 2015 result, all hell would have been let loosed by the ever-ready to kill Sai Buharists up north and the bittered pro-Jonathans in the Niger Delta. Who would have suffered? The poor masses!

So in all fairness, Nigerians must jettison partisanship and support the candidacy of Goodluck Jonathan.

Who considered Jonathan for the Nobel Peace Prize, the committee itself or some socio-political groups in Nigeria?
