A lot of times, we hear about great men like Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and the likes, but we hardly hear of the great black men that came up with some of the ground-breaking inventions in the world we have today. Despite the sufferings of racial segregation and discrimination, early African-Americans made countless contributions to science and technology and in this article; we want to shed some light on them and some of the great inventions they achieved.

Here they are:

Lewis Latimer (1848 – 1928)
Invention: The Carbon Filament For The Light Bulb.

Latimer is one of the greatest inventors of all time. Thomas Edison may have invented the electric lightbulb, but Latimer helped make it a common feature in American households. In 1881 he received a patent for inventing a method of producing carbon filaments, which made the bulbs longer-lasting, more efficient and cheaper. In 1876, he worked with Alexander Graham Bell to draft the drawings required for the patent of Bell’s telephone.

Otis Boykin (1920 -1982)
Invention: The Artificial Heart Pacemaker Control Unit.

Although there were variations to the pacemaker before Boykin’s invention, the modern-day pacemaker would not exist without Otis Boykin’s work.

Granville T. Woods (1856-1910)
Invention: The Multiplex Telegraph.

The Multiplex Telegraph was a device that sent messages between train stations and moving trains. Granville’s work assured a safer and better public transportation system for the cities of America.


Gerald A. Lawson (1940 -2011)
Invention: The Modern Home-Video Gaming Console.

Anyone who owns a PlayStation, Wii or Xbox should know Lawson’s name. He created the first home video-game system that used interchangeable cartridges, offering gamers a chance to play a variety of games and giving video-game makers a way to earn profits by selling individual games, a business model that exists today.

Obama as the president of America by American constitution, and from African parentage has to be born on American soil, raised an American and properly integrated into American culture. So Obama is a white man in a black body.

Algebra, Trigonometry, number we are using now were started by arabs. Particularly Algebra by a man named started from Arabs Al - Khwarzimi (780 - 850) and Omar khayyam (1048 - 1131). Trigonometry after the Great flood of Egypt. You will agree with me that Egyptians, Lybianas, tunis, Algerians are arabs not blacks. Though are Africans so are the South Africa white cannot be classified as blacks and their inventors and civilisation is for Africa not blacks, right?

The inventors written about go with which sort of name borne in among black Africa? No. These are descendants of slaves, not even, the original slaves. These are born, raised in America soil, properly assimilated into american culture. The (un)fortunate peers of whose fathers would defecate on the source of the spring of water while their wives fetch the water just few yards down the course to prepare the next meal. The slaves were already used to water closet.

1. Why are we reading the same text books on medicine, engineering and we are backward? Something wrong with the books or with blacks?

2. We are reading the same books on management and we have the worst of managers as leaders in black setting?
3. With all honesty, can you tell nairalnders when blacks will match India or China in Technology? Your own grand children are not sure to witness that.

4. What is the pride of black in Africa and elsewhere around the globe besides entertainment?
