The United States is sending 300 US troops, along with surveillance drones, to Cameroon to bolster a West African effort to counter the Nigerian militant Islamist group Boko Haram, US officials said on Wednesday. In a notification to Congress, President Barack Obama said an advance force of about 90 military personnel began deploying on Monday to Cameroon, with the consent of the Yaounde government. The troops will “conduct airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations in the region,” Obama said. “These forces are equipped with weapons for the purpose of providing their own force protection and security, and they will remain in Cameroon until their support is no longer needed.” US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the troops would provide intelligence to a multi-national task force being set up to fight Boko Haram and composed of troops from Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon, Chad and Benin. Boko Haram, which wants to carve out an Islamist caliphate and has allied itself to Islamic State, earlier this year stepped up cross-border attacks on Nigeria’s neighbors. On Sunday, two female suicide bombers killed nine people in the town of Mora in Cameroon’s Far North region, employing a tactic increasingly favored by Boko Haram. The American officials said the US soldiers would deploy initially to the city of Garoua in northern Cameroon, not far from the Nigerian border. The force will include Predator drones for surveillance, they said. The White House said the move was not in response to any changed assessment of threat in the region. The United States has no combat troops in Africa, but has been increasing support to allies in the region battling Boko Haram. helinues:When will you negriods evolve sense? Obama is taking his destabilization plot from Syria to Nigeria. WW3 just broke out and any moment from now Saudi will go up in flames. Obama stationing troops in Nigeria is to further ensure that the dunce in Aso Rock grants the US a base in the Gulf of Guinea to tap into ND oil and also a launch pad to Central Africa. As things stand, expect more false flag ops by the US in the ND portraying ND militants as terrorists leading to full scale war. At the end, the US wants the gulf of Guinea for its AFRICOM base in the region and also to tap into the ND oil. We saw all this since April. |

ThePeacemaker:Obama has been "fighting" ISIS for over 18mths with nothing to show. Anybody that believes Obama is sending troops to the NE to fight their CIA trained and backed Boko Haram is a dunce! |

helinues:Don't be a dunce. Your Buhari was propped up by the US because they knew he won't hesitate starting a war in the Niger Delta . Forget Shale Oil, Saudi dumping excess crude. The US is salivating over the Gulf of Gunea and US energy strategic security is now angling from the troubled middle east to the Gulf of Guinea. This shale oil nonsense was thrown in as a reason why US cancelled oil shimpments from Nigeria. The truth of the matter has always been with the GEJ administration moving closer with China. Now, that the whole dynamics of the Syria-Iraqi conflict has been upset by Russia, the US is looking to secure the gulf of Guinea for itself. Boko Haram exist in the NE to destabilize the last govt. Buhari will foolishly send troops to the Niger Delta after a series of false flag terror plots by the US blaming the ND militants. They chose Buhari for his chronic sectarianism and his stupidity. At the end of the day, the US will justify sending troops to the ND on the guise of stopping the genocide by the Fulani Hausa army, Buhari will be wanted by the ICC for crimes against humanity, and he will play ball to have ND become an autonomous region ( see Bashir and South Sudan) . It is from there they will set up a military command base to recolonize the rest of Africa. Dunce This is change! |

The US Military and the Unraveling of Africa The Gulf of Guinea. He said it without a hint of irony or embarrassment. This was one of US Africa Command's big success stories. The Gulf... of Guinea. Never mind that most Americans couldn't find it on a map and haven't heard of the nations on its shores like Gabon, Benin, and Togo. Never mind that just five days before I talked with AFRICOM's chief spokesman, the Economist had asked if the Gulf of Guinea was on the verge of becoming "another Somalia," because piracy there had jumped 41% from 2011 to 2012 and was on track to be even worse in 2013. The Gulf of Guinea was one of the primary areas in Africa where "stability," the command spokesman assured me, had "improved significantly," and the US military had played a major role in bringing it about. But what did that say about so many other areas of the continent that, since AFRICOM was set up, had been wracked by coups, insurgencies, violence, and volatility? A careful examination of the security situation in Africa suggests that it is in the process of becoming Ground Zero for a veritable terror diaspora set in motion in the wake of 9/11 that has only accelerated in the Obama years. Recent history indicates that as US "stability" operations in Africa have increased, militancy has spread, insurgent groups have proliferated, allies have faltered or committed abuses, terrorism has increased, the number of failed states has risen, and the continent has become more unsettled. |
