Senators Not Divided Over Amaechi – Anyanwu by Naijacitizen(op): 6:45am On Oct 17, 2015
Chairman Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has debunked the report that the case of former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has divided his committee. The committee is entertaining the petition written against the nomination of Amaechi by a group in Rivers State.

In an interview with newsmen, Anyanwu said the committee members were all part of the decisions taken on the petition brought against the ex-governor. “Everything was done in the open, we carried out our assignment in a transparent manner. We had to wait for a very long time for the author of the petition against Amaechi who came all the way from Port Harcourt,” he stated.

“We decided in our magnanimity, to take the respondent (Amaechi). The session didn’t last too long because he said the matter was in court regarding his indictment by the white paper by the Rivers State Commission of Inquiry,” the senator explained.

“Before the petitioner came we received documents from the attorney general of Rivers State accompanied with white paper indicting Amaechi. The petitioner came, made submissions and we demanded for supporting documents which he provided. There was no disagreement among us, there was no problem. We will make sure that we present our report. Having heard from Amaechi and the petitioner, our report is ready and we are all unanimous on it,” Anyanwu said.

When people are doing hatchets they should at least belie their motives. You waited patiently for Amaechi's enemies to establishe a petition against him but you see Amaechi's right to defense as a mere magnanimity of your committee.

It is preposterous in the first place for the Senate to be entertaining cases that are already before a court of competent jurisdictions. These people are wasting our precious time and resources. This is a matter the Senate is constitutionally forbidden to make any pronouncement on.
Will the Senate now say based on your political enemies recommendation we will not allow you to serve your fatherland as requested by Mr. President.
Will the Senate also stop the Rivers state Senators from functioning when and if National Human Right Commission submit petitions on live killings of APC supporters by PDP thugs? The killings were aired live from Okrika - we do not even need to start looking for evidences; videos are on youtube.

This case is purely judicial and can only be settled through judicial procedures.

The only pronouncements that are regarded as law from the Assembly are bills that have been dully processed.

Anyway, this is one of the styles of the usual suspect Senator Saraki; he is adopting leverage against his numerous graft cases before various courts of the land. This committee task is a waste of public fund irrespective of their recommendations; recommendations that will only be advisory and lack legal weight.

Democracy is government for d people, by the people.

If the people Amechi is representing have come out openly to reject him, why are Apc fighting tooth and nail to force him in?

There is going to be a sure misrepresentation.

This is the correct news nor that crap published by nation news paper.

With little diligence every one can have evidence of corruption by amaechi. Even Buhari was given.

I see no reason why the so called "anti-corruption" president had to submit amaechi for minister.

Shameful.

Exactly. They've even reduced it to APC vs PDP things. Which it's not.

Amaechi is not representing the Rivers people, your representatives are in the senate.

Buhari is a walking corruption-Duru1 (0ctober, 2015)
All in all, Amaechi is overtly corrupt and if Buhari insists on appointing him a minister of federal Republic of Zoogeria, then his anti-corruption mantra is a ruse.
Re: Senators Not Divided Over Amaechi – Anyanwu by Descartes:
How can a sane leader appoints an overtly corrupt person who Vanquished an ultra_corrupt Atiku during the APC Primaries to head a portfolio in the country in the name of personal interest to?
This is a test of Buhari's integrity.

Amaechi was never an agent of change, he was never a progressive member like many of his former PDP crooks that left PDP to join the APC. They saw Jonathan's political ambition as an hindrance to their selfish ambition that was why they plot the downfall of PDP in the last election. Buhari aside, APC=PDP. We've been scammed. There's nothing like change. Petrol is still sold above N87/L, Bomb blasts still persist, economy is in comatose, unemployment persists and the "technocrats" we were promised would be appointed as ministers are actually the same old set of politicians that took Nigeria to this present state. As for Amaechi, he will only enjoy the booties of APC victory if he plotted GEJ downfall just because he wanted a true change for Nigeria. But if he sold out his brother because of his own selfish reason and political ambitions, may nemesis catch up with him. Can I hear u say amen?

A mere allegation shouldn't be basis for Amechi's disqualification, but come to think of this, Amechi is widely seen among his people (indigenes not just citizens) as a traitor and yet the ministerial slot is for the indigenes to have sense of belonging in the federal government. But let God's will be done!

Why is it only Amaechi facing problems with screening? Because he that was accusing someone of corruption is also corrupt himself. Nigerians are beginning to wake up. Never again would we be scammed.

The way I see it.......Amaechi will be confirmed as a minister and that will be the beginning of the end for Buhari's anticorruption crusade.......because if u are going after corrupt pple, there is no way pple like Amaechi can escape an independent and thorough probe...
