Everyone is shouting technocrat, technocrat! Who the f*ck is a technocrat? If a lawyer, a doctor, an engineer and accountant does not qualify as technocrats then you all need brain surgery angry angry angry Is Obama's cabinet filled with only technocrats? What about Cameron's? Must we complain about every damn thing in this country!

nonsense write-up.

- unbalanced and unfair criticism of the nomination of some of Nigeria's finest brains by the President.
- is the writer aware that Nigeria's balance sheet would be at its finest (despite low oil revenues) since independence at year-end.
- are they aware that he is fulfilling the constitutional requirement by appointing ministers across the federation?
- only technocrats can not drive the economy?
They are aware of all you mentioned as outlined in the article. They are just trying to justify the promise made by the president as well as the delay in naming only to resort to same politicians that destroyed the nation

If buhari likes he can appoint Obama,Putin, alafin of oyo,or the Emi of kano as his ministers .all Nigerians are concerned about is that they get to work and perform .this nation has wasted valuable time of almost 5months all in the name of waiting for a ministerial list which should ideally not have been the case but for the fact that Nigerians voted for someone who wasnt prepared for the post and seat he contested for.

all this talk of Professor, how many professors have actually held govt positions in the past and excelled? How many professors have been education minsters in the past, yet see the state of our education system. Professors are theoretical people, they are purists, very few of them have real world experience especially in managing people and achieving performance targets. How many doctors have we had as health ministers, Nike grange, Chukwu, Osotimehim, all medical doctors, all professors, you see any change? I'm sure if you look at the history of all the federal cabinets we've had since independence, the best performing minister in any cabinet was not a professor.

cool

Buhari's selection process was complicated by the fact that he was constitutionally bound to select a minister from each of Nigeria's 36 states to reflect the character of a nation of 170 million people from 250 ethnic groups.

"Those expecting a list formed wholly of technocrats were being unrealistic," said Kayode Akindele, a political consultant and partner at private equity firm TIA capital. "He has a good mixture. You could have key portfolios with technocrats, which would help to drive reforms."

A cabinet that contains names like Dr Enelamah, Prof Adewole, Dr Kayode Fayemi, Prof Daramola, Dr Kachikwu, Kemi Adeosun, Prof Anwuka, Dr Aminat Ibrahim, Udo Udoma etc can't be refered to as a mediocre cabinet or a cabinet formed to compensate power blocks. Do they mean Udoma Udo Udoma lost all the knowledge he possessed simply because he ran for election and won twice? Do they mean Fayemi lost all his because he joined APC? or Amina Mohammed lost it because she worked with PDP? With this thinking, The stellar Dr Ibe Kachikwu will lose the tag of a technocrat by 2019 obviously. These guys sure need a dose of reality.

Even the politicians on the list like Fashola is a technocrat before being a politician and my man that they love to hate...Amaechi cheesy is no push over.

Buhari had to make a balance and i was pleasantly surprised he had the guts to drop names like Oyinlola, Bode Mustapha and Yemi Cardoso who were Obj's candidates then Tinubu's candidates like Wale Edun, Dele Alake and Rotimi Akeredolu.

Really those who were expecting a cabinet of 36 without politicians are very unrealistic. Even An American president won't try that otherwise Donald Rumsfeld and Colin Powell wouldn't have made it into George Bush Jr's cabinet.
Abeg tell them, they have forgotten that about "A dozen are technocrats" which means 1/3rd are technocrats and is more than a percentage you'll find in the most democratically developed cabinets the world over.

You only mentioned 4 whereas PMB already has prof. Daramola, enelamah, kemi adeosun, dr kachikwu, prof adewole, prof anwuka, dr aminat ibrahim, dr enahaire. That is 8 already of the popular ones. There are still some from the north that are relatively unknown.

Now tell me apart from NOI, how many professors were in GEJ's cabinet.
Well, you should understand the context of that comment. I wasn't comparing PMB and GEJ government.

Don't mind the unrealistic people.

As if the moment you enter politics, you lose all the academic, business and working knowledge you acquired prior
the problem here is that most nigerians,as soon as they join politics, they lose all scrupples in the face of the overwhelming funds they encounter in office.

How much do Reuters and co contribute to Buhari's success after 3rd attempts at being a Nigerian President? Amaechi and Tinubu first fought the dollar man (Atiku) in the APC primary before engaging the CBN.

TRUTHTOPOWER:
British Ministers are career politicians. so it is in every parliamentary system. this never detracts from the ability to carry out reforms. Hillary Clinton, Obama, kerry, et al are all politicians and these never undermined their ability to carry out reforms. it is thus uncharitable to suggest that African politicians are incapable of carrying out reforms.

In the colonial era, Chief Awolowo as a politician surpassed the European technocracts sent to Nigeria in terms of ingenuity. In fact they despised Awo for referring to them as mediocre technocrats.
You made a wrong analysis of the post based on a logically inconsistent argument that makes references to contradictory scenarios.

1. The writer never implied that a politician cannot be a technocrat- he is saying that your ministers are just mere politicians
2. Please be educated that there are politicians who are also technocrats - Prof Pat Utumi is one of such (once a presidential candidate); that's the class you find Obama, Awolowo, David Cameroon, John Kerry ...... NOT THE ANALOGUE MINISTERS WE HAVE NOW

See this one again, whose opinion? Rewane man is and ardent support of Buhari but i can see that he is begining to see the Hand writing on the wall while you are still shrouded with your foolish sai bubu mantra. it is high time you either wake up you little god buhari from slumber before the masses will deal with him. Your type are the ones that are destroying Buhari, hailing/telling him is well why all he stood for is been eroded by corrupt people surronding him. REUTERS IS 100% ON THE POINT. Dont be a foolish supporter,oK

My definition of technocrats are those who will be driven completely by professional ethics and not political considerations.

I'm not aware how much political influence the likes of NOI, Barth Nnaji, Olusegun Aganga, Akinwumi Adesina, etc had.
I quite agree with you . But we are all politicians by nature; of course we have individual preferences and choices. I don't want them be seen as non-technocrats because of their stint with politics. Would you allow your discipline to be eroded simply because you delve into politics? I'm sure not.
