I am full blooded Igbo guy, but I am tired of ranting, ranting and more ranting. If you know you have genuine case, stand your ground and fight for it. But if you know you lack the willpower to fight, then give up and stop ranting. Maybe by giving up, you might end up achieving your aim.

Capich!
My brother - Akure na Yorubaland of Nigeria. I am glad that the Eze there show humility and maturity and respect his host. Simple matter here but some agenda chasing people go look to exploit this matter now to cause more friction between Nigerians

You see. At the end of the day we are all Nigerians and we will continue to be together, even if we break to different nations, for generations.

Once we can accord each others the deserved respect as host and settlers, there should be no problems at all.

The Igbo in Akure, the Ondo State capital, are trying to reconcile with the Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo, after a few days of bickering.

The monarch had accused the Eze Ndigbo, Sir Gregory Iloehike, of insubordination and lack of respect for his authority. But Iloehike denied the allegation, saying he couldn’t be arrogant to the tribe that has accommodated his tribe for over many decades ago.

Rising from a special meeting of Ohaneze Ndigbo at the palace of the Eze Ndigbo in Akure, the President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo in the state, Chief Okechukwu Okorie, said the Igbo respect the Deji and would not do anything against his wish.

He said the Igbo in the state are peace loving people, adding that the Ohaneze Ndigbo has started reconciliatory moves with the Deji and palace chiefs to ensure peaceful and harmonious co-existence between the Yoruba and Igbo in the town.

The group described the relationship between the Deji and Igbo as that of a father and his children, noting that the monarch remains the father to all. He said: “The Igbo are law abiding and we remain good subjects of the Deji of Akure. We can never warn the Deji on any issue, rather he is in position to warn us.

“The Deji is our father and we are his children. Whatever he wants is our wish and we shall continue to obey his directives.” Okorie, who hinted that the Igbo leaders have decided to reconcile with the Deji, informed that efforts are on top gear to reach out to the traditional ruler.

He urged the monarch to forgive those who might have offended him, adding that the Igbo would continue to maintain the peace for which Akure is known for.

Do these journalist know what they are writing/typing?
There cannot be another "palace'' in Akure apart from that of the King, Deji of Akure.

People should learn how to behave in another man's land or territory. No man wears anything on the head when paying homage or visiting an Oba in his palace. Even the governor cannot put on his cap when going to visit an Oba. It is an age-long sign of respect and loyalty to the Oba and no one dares to do otherwise. Only fellow Obas are allowed to wear anything on their head when visiting an Oba.

But here comes a so-called ''Eze Ndigbo'' who has no bearing nor recognition whatsoever doing otherwise. Very soon, he would start giving titles to people and installing chiefs in another man's land, and later start calling the land a ''no-man's land'

So he knew all along
that he wasn't fit to challenge the Deji in his own land yet he went on with his braggado?

It is now that he has been humiliated in the most degrading manner that he's realizing he should have swallowed the humble pie early enough.

I am an Akure indegene and it's a known fact that Igbos have enjoyed a peaceful co-existence with Yorubas in Akure for years. You need to see the Igbos in Akure to know what i am talking about; they have literally become Akure bona fide indegenes with their children speaking the local dialect fluently.

However, it will be suicidal for Igbos not to be boundary conscious like their Hausas/Fulanis counterparts who are equally at the same level with Igbos as far as business and population are concerned. The Hausas/Fulanis own all the shops in Sabo along Odo-Ijoka road towards the state stadium and all the way towards the mini Sabo along Oba-Adesida road. They own all the shops in the Sabo at Odo-Ikoyi junction as well as the money exchange business by Post office junction towards Oba palace.

These Hausas/Fulanis are making their freaking Benjamis but maintaining and keeping low profile. Igbos need to learn that spirit of humility and respect from these Hausas/Fulanis.

In eventuality of Igbos being seen by Akure indegenes as tribal enemies, the outcome could better be imagined. Those guys aren't smiling menh cos war/fight is their daily watchwords. I believed that some Igbo elders witnessed what happened in Akure in early 80s(Omoboriowo riot in which Akure indegenes were burning and killing people on the streets).

I ll implore Igbos not to allow the money they have made to get into their heads cos money is the bane of all evil. The peace and sanity they have enjoyed over 50years in Akure should be protected and cherished at all cost by obeying and respecting our traditional values. That's the only demand(Respect our cultural values) of Akure people from Igbos and others unlike where Igbos are being taxed by the indegenes. Nobody is taxing or demanding all sorts from Igbos in Akure and this alone should be appreciated by Igbos.
Akure people should reconsider the bolded position. Collecting tax or "owo omo onile" is a way of reminding people who is in charge. If they are not constantly reminded, they are going to get so comfortable they will challenge your authority.

I pity the guy sha . He doesn't know he's on a loooooog thing. The Igbo's I know will frustrate his efforts.

Tax Igbos specially because they are not Nigerians? The sense of privilege and entitlement that some people have is seriously mind-boggling. Only in Nigeria will people think that not being taxed specially because of tribe is ought to be appreciated/celebrated. And people go about wondering why people want Biafra. Anuohia.
I have lived half of my life in western world-UK/US

In UK, the Queen throne is English heritage and over the years, Scottish, Irish and Welsh people have been made to respect that throne as if their life depend on it.

The Scottish, welsh and Irish don't come to England and tell the English to Bleep off with their cultural heritages despite the fact that they are all British.

They know that, that would be suicidal and the same thing applicable to English people. English people don't go to Glasgow to say jack about their traditional values.

I want you tto check out some video on YouTube in which both sides were fighting over the same issues we are discussing here despite their over 300 years of co-existence.

Let's be fair in our judgement, can any Yoruba man or Hausas go to On its ha and disrespect your traditional values? Igbos would scream blue murder...... Have you forgotten how Igbos were so happy when Obi was alleged to have cursed Senator Ngige for holding a political rally on the day of their traditional ccelebration? Igbos praised their King over this perceived barbaric act(To other people who are not Igbos).

We didn't hear the same Igbos claiming that Ngige right was being infringed upon by the Obi of Onitsha. You see double standard

You spoke well and I commend you on that. Akure is a nice and peaceful place which should be maintained. Most reasons why people go to war are actually things that can easily be settled at a table with each party compromising for the sake of peace. I hope the Yoruba indigenes will also not start treating the Igbos like a people they are doing a favour by gloating and insulting them as we see some other Yorubas do.

It surprising to hear that you have lived half of your life in the Western World and still support this nonsense. I also don't reside in Nigeria.
So, where you live, are the black people, Scotts, Irish or Welsh people pay a special tax because they are not English/American?
How many English/Americans demand that you (A FOREIGNER for that matter) thank them daily for living in their land or for a property you bought with your own money?

People have a right to elect who they want to represent them (irrespective of the name it is called). If you want to have an OBA OF THE YORUBAS anywhere in the SE (just as Eze ndi Igbo means Eze of the Igbos), you are welcome. You guys better find something constructive to do/argue about. So much for sophistication.

Anyway, with all these apologies flying around, from cow jockeys and fraudulent Eze - Yorubas shouldn't lose guard. Yoruba culture/tradition/heritage and territorial integrity must be protected at all times by any means necessary.

I cant touch any of those ibo businesses with a 6-foot pole.
Let's leave them to the ndibo slaves.

Yorubas run industries, factories, universities, banks, oil facilities and other corporate organisations.

It is high time we abolish this indigenous heritage in Nigeria, it suppose to be that any state you are residing or born or your father or mother is from, the person will be automatic indigene of that place, true federalism that is what they practice in this countries like Ghana, South Africa, Cameroon, USA, EU, Canada etc, I wonder why Nigeria own is different, If we want one Nigeria there have to be radical overhaul of system of things, de recognize ethnicity and empower mass mixed up of tribes. People are not suppose to be immigrant in a Country of their own, it shows that the country is not country
Good idea but develop and open Igbo land first and make Igboland attractive to indegenes and visitors alike. Then you can propose the above.
