Senate suspends plenary till thursday: Acting clerk Nelson Oyewo by hinwazaka(op): 7:09pm On Oct 20, 2015

The Nigerian Senate has suspended its plenary till Thursday, after it screened two ministerial nominees on Monday.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Senate had adjourned plenary till Wednesday to continue to Screening of the Ministerial nominees.

It had screened two ministerial nominees from Oyo and Yobe States – Mr Adebayo Shittu and Mrs Khadija Abba Ibrahim.

Hours after the plenary of Tuesday had ended, the Acting Clerk of the Senate, Nelson Oyewo, told reporters that the Senate had decided to reconvene on Thursday, cancelling the earlier date of Wednesday.

This is why Saraki needs to resign or at least step aside to attend to the corruption case brought against him. Senate as an institution is bigger than any individual. Saraki cannot be preventing the senate from sitting and carrying out its constitutional responsibilities simply because he wants to attend to a case which is personal to him. This is totally unacceptable.

I bet to disagree.... it's a smart move by Saraki camp to cover some shame....It won't speak well for Ekweremadu to preside over screening of APC government lead ministerial nominees.
Although it is a shame that an individual is holding entire institution.. even the whole Nation to ransom...everything has to wait for him huh

Amaechi is in serious trouble. The senate leadership is ready to battle the executive till the end on the CCT brouhaha. I pity the nation, APC will destroy this country

Ameachi is not....I think there is a part of our constitution which says if he is not screened after 21working days after his nomination was submitted to the senate...he automatically becomes a minister.

Am sorry to say this, PDP owns the senate, apc need to get it back simple.

He doesn't need to get them to agree with him. It is the prerogative of the senate leadership to decide when senate will hold plenary or not. The senate president consults only the principal officers in such situations and not the entire senate members.

Are you this senseless?! What has Senate suspension of Plenary got to do with Amaechi? Saraki is facing corruption charges at the CCT and wanna tell Nigerians that he's bigger than Nigeria and you're here saying Amaechi is in soup. Very funny dude!! How on earth Will the APC even achieve that? The way things are now,even if Saraki suddenly drops dead now,the pro-PDP like minds group would still decide the Senate presidency!! APC have lost control of the eight Senate.

the truth is that if by Thursday he isn't screened and confirmed/not confirmed, then by Tuesday next week being ,,27th, he is constitutional cleared.
