what business has he flying aboard the Presidential air fleet? Is he the president or a staff of the presidency? This is abuse of privilege!!! Here in Europe, our heads of govt either use the designated official vehicles allocated them (which in most cases are modest cars), or they board public transport. The best that could be done is hire a whole coach for them (depending on the number of persons travelling). If they lived the flamboyant lives that their African counterparts live, they would be voted out of office and are likely to face corruption charges. Why are Nigerian politicians worse than magicians?

oh really!!! That is untrue. He is free to travel aboard the presidential air fleet, as long as he is a part of the presidents entourage or a visiting head of government. The Federal Government has purchased an aeroplane for the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) at a cost of N1.73 billion.

The purchase is part of a bid to boost the capacity of the agency in regards to curbing smuggling on the country’s border.

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Minister of Finance, who commissioned the new aircraft on Friday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, said it would help the Customs Service to strengthen aerial surveillance of the various terrains along the country’s borders.

Okonjo-Iweala congratulated the Comptroller General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko, on the acquisition of the aircraft and urged the agency to work harder in order achieve better results for the country.

“The aircraft is an investment for which the country expects good returns,” she said.

“The terrain around the country’s borders includes difficult-to-access riverine and mountainous areas, which make monitoring and combating of the activities of the borders challenging. Several customs personnel have lost their lives or sustained injuries during attacks by smugglers in recent times.”

The two engine 12-seater aircraft with registration number 5N-DIA,which can fly up to 45,000 ft in altitude, will be captained by Kuhi Mbaya.

Captain Mbaya disclosed that the plane is fitted with the state-of-the-art equipment and could fly long distances, revealing that he flew the plane from Kansas City, in the United States and refuelled in Spain, before arriving Abuja.

Dikko said the aircraft would be used for the benefit of the customs in enhancing its revenue collection and surveillance around the borders.
The ceremony was honoured by the deputy controllers general, air force chiefs and members of paramilitary organizations.

It could truly be customs jet or a jet from the presidential fleet but what is of concern to me is the clamors all over the internet some months ago about reduction in number of aircrafts in the presidential fleet during GEJ's govt and inception of the present administration, why has the clamor reduced.....seems there r so many perennial problem in the Nigeria society that anything the populace decide to clamor against don't last long before another one will rise and hence forgotten the immediate last one and no reasonable conclusion being reached. It still don't make any sense for a nation that does not have a national carrier to be having more than 10 aircrafts in its presidential fleet.#that's the change we voted for.

Seun, Lalasticlala this jet belongs to the Nigeria customs service. You can see the logo above the registration number. The op may have titled it private jet but the onus is on you to cross check before promoting it. You never know what you'll promote that will put nairaland in trouble.
