Obiagu1:
The original Biafra would have been better for the Igbo than with the Hausa and Yoruba, people we have no interactions, connections, culture nor relationship with. The British really messed up.
I think Nigeria is the greatest injustice to Africa by the Europeans!

If a country comprising current Biafra, Cameroon (minus the Hausas), Equitorial Guinea and Gabon was created instead, it would have been awesome. We are all bantoid.
Your language is not Bantoid, the Tiv language is. And Bantu is just a language grouping, which Igbo does not fall into.
When did Igbos become Bantoid?

This what he replied me when I asked
Not with the full bantus but with the semi-bantus people of ancient Biafra.
You can hardly differentiate an Igbo from a Gabonese.
So are we semi IYO?

which of the Biafrans?
the ones who call themselves that in Nigeria, or the original Biafrans, who are mostly Bantu and Adamawa speaking groups from Central Africa?

Semi-bantu groups include Igbos, Ibibios, Cameroonians, equ. Guineans and Gabonese.

Stop it!
Igbos are never semi-bantu.
Cameroonians are both Bantu and Bantoid groups. Like the Bamileke are Bantoid speaking, while groups like the Fang are completely Bantu speaking
Equatorial Guineans and Gabonese are fully fledged Bantu language speakers.

It seems you want to be Bantu or bantoid so soo bad. lol

Bantu or not, i don't think it is of any political economic and social value to Igbo people. It is not in their strategic interest as far as I know.

Though many Igbos find more commonalities with the people of southern Cameroon and central Africa than with some groups in Nigeria, even physical attributes.

Obiagu did not coin the word "semi bantu". It came from scholarly works of several international historians and linguists including G. I Jones. Igbos have long been mentioned as "semi Bantus", for whatever it means. My Congolese friends always reminds me that 'Ibos' of Nigeria are related to them. No surprise most of the African support for the Biafrans during the war came from Bantoid countries - Gabon, Zambia, Tanzania etc

You're right, some text would say Igbos are semi-bantu, others proto-bantu, while some would say mixed with bantu.

The fact is that the Igbo are related to bantus/semi-bantus.

I am simply saying igbos are not Bantoid, which is simply a language classification. I know Obiagu didn't coin the word.
When your Congolese friend says Ibos of Nigeria are related to them, did you ever bother asking why or how?
people say those kind of things a lot.

see, you keep making the mistake.
Bantu isn't a race, so you can't be mixed with bantu. But your language can show some attributes of a Bantu language.
The Bantu language expansion started somewhere around the Jukun / Mambila / Tikar / Bamileke homeland (Which is around the Taraba/Adamaoua/North-West province of Nigeria and Caemeroon)
Re: Biafra Has Been Recognized Since June 30th 1849 by ezeagu(m): 1:18am On Nov 04, 2015
Bantu isn't just a language classification, okay well it is, but it has come to also mean a group of people with a similar kind of culture stemming from the spread of the languages, just like Germanic and other language families, it now has an ethnic affiliation. I don't know what semi-Bantu means but it's obvious the Igbo people have more in common with 'Bantu' peoples especially in Cameroon than with other West African peoples for example, while groups like the Yoruba have more in common with Fongbe, Ewe, and maybe even Mande people.

This is a Tikar man from Cameroon.

Bantu is synonymous with Indo-European
It is a language classification, but it can also be a race or meta-ethnicity composed of many ethnic groups , depending on how you want to look at it. Do you even know the Igbos are not really situated in the real East of Nigeria per-se? A place like Onitsha is smack dab in the centre of its south.
Yorubas as a people are diverse, and are related to many things. I don't know about Mande (Highly unlikely, but definitely Igala, Edo, and Ewe / Fon-gbe like u mentioned)

And Onitsha's 'cosmopolitan' origin shows that with Igbo, Benin, and Igala influence and ancestry. But the Igbo in the bulk are more like the Tikar than other westerly Nigerian groups.

Are the Igbos a lot like the Tivs / Jukuns?
they are the most bantoid thing we have in Nigeria and should be genetically close to the tikars.
Re: Biafra Has Been Recognized Since June 30th 1849 by scholes0(m): 1:36am On Nov 04, 2015
Ezeagu, go and check any genetic plot of African peoples. Igbos and Yorubas cluster very closely together, while Bantus in their diversity tend to form groups with a considerable gap from the two former.

Well, it's not just features, it's culture and to a certain extent language (the prefixing of Bantu languages are similar to Igbo, e.g Ngondo, Ngozi, etc).

No, they are mostly like grasslands Cameroonians and loosely like those in Gabon. The grassland Cameroonians are not like the Tivi either, their ancient culture all looks similar though.

But Grassland Cameroonians are Bantoid / SemiBantus. That is where the Tikar and Bamileke reside.
Mambilla culture of Taraba state and Tikar culture are very similar.
The Igbo sentence structuring is completely different from that of Bantu languages. Igbo is a Volta-Niger language, not a Benue-Congo language

That's why Bantu is just a language classification, because Igbo culture has more in common with Bamileke Tikar culture than some Volta-Niger languages but both have less to do with some Bantu cultures, but in general there's more commonality with Igbo and Bantu cultures. That tie is strengthened further by the Ekpe/Egbo masquerading mens society that dominated the Grassland and eastern Igbo areas.

Igbo prefixing is similar to Bantu languages.

There is no specific Bantu culture. Kikuyu culture is drastically different from Zulu culture. which are in turn both different from Angolan culture. And they are all Bantu speaking people. If there are traces of Ekpe among grassland cameroonians, it is as a result of the geographical proximity between them and the Cross Riverian groups, than anything else.

ezeagu:

It is not. You may want to talk about similarity in the way some few words look superficially between Igbo and any Bantu language of your choice, i.e 'Emeka or Ngozi' , but nothing to do with structures of these languages.

The languages are prefixed in a similar way in the sense that they use n- and m- as prefixes in words. The fact that Bantu cultures are different is the point. I never ruled out proximity being a reason, so they do have similarity. The Ekpe society is the main initiation rites in culture it is found. The masks of the groups and Igbo are similar, the dressing is similar although Igbo people used more of their own Akwete cloth. The features are similar especially among groups like Bamileke and Tikar, and they've historically had more interaction and knowledge of each other than they've had with groups on the west of the Niger.

Atlantic languages have plenty of that.

The Fulfulde word for water is Ndiyam, Freedom is Ndimaaku, girl is Mbomri, Doing is Mbaadi etc. Not to even mention that these nasal consonants at the begining of these languages hav completely different purposes. That is what I mean by superficial 'alikeness'

Maybe for Ebonyi/Abia groups you would be right, but can you say the same for Anambra/Anambra/Delta groups?

By the way, check out the Krou peoples' cultures of South Western Cote D'ivoire, which in my opinion is much more similar to Igbo culture than Tikar or any Cameroonian group. This similarity thing is honestly all in the head for the most part.

The Fula also has the same similarity then, but taking everything into account, the feature in Igbo is another link in the chain of similarity with Bantu people, or more specifically, people in Southern Cameroons. The Anambra groups don't have as much direct link with the Southern Cameroons, but their culture, taking out any Benin or Igala influence is more like the people of Southern Cameroons, Cross River than anything else. Western Igbo is probably the youngest migration and they've been influenced by Benin.

Kru people seem to be more like Ijaw.

and Kru more like Igbo to me than Ijaw o.

Seems you don't have a job other than sniffing around dead online posts looking for worms and maggots to feed on.

Get a life will you, the anonymity that is afforded you on this forum won't shield your conscience from the truth that you're wasting away, quoting people who don't care if you're alive or dead in a ditch (I for one don't give a rat's ass).

I'm sure you know the way out of my mentions. Good luck and get lost.
