A welder in Otta, Ogun State, has attacked and killed his wife using a metal bar, police and a relative said Wednesday.
The attack occurred Monday night at the couple’s home in Iyana Iyesi area in Otta.
The victim’s sister said the attacker, Yusuf Olasoji, fled after emptying cement power on his victim’s body. He was later arrested by the police.
The couple had been separated for about two months, following abuses by the husband, which forced the wife to relocate to her mother’s home in the town.
A sister said Mr. Olasoji made an unusual visit to his mother-in-law’s apartment on Monday, and managed to convince his wife, Kehinde Olasoji, to return with him.
Kehinde joined her husband that evening, but was attacked and killed by Yusuf later in the night.
The corpse was transferred to the morgue of State Hospital, Ota, while the suspect was moved to the police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta. on the order of Commissioner of Police.
The twin sister of the deceased, Taiwo Akinbote, told PREMIUM TIMES that her sister, who was a hairdresser, was busy plaiting her hair when the husband called her on phone to join him.
She said the family became worried when she could not be contacted the next day.
“It has always been a fight between my sister and the husband, hence, she was advised to pack out before he beats her to death, sadly the man eventually beat her to death,” she narrated.
“Kehinde was busy plaiting my hair, when the husband called her to come, I am of the opinion that, the man might have use juju to remote my sister to come, because they have been separated for a while,” Taiwo said.
Ogun State Public Relations Officer of Police, Muyiwa Adejobi, said an autopsy will be carried out before the body before it is released for burial.
