Ebimablog:
Honestly I do not know who to blame. while some sellers are armed robbers on the one hand some niggas are just to dumb or lazy to do some research n buy online.

Sometime I get annoyed at the comments of some of my visitors to the extent of ignoring their inquiry.

A clear case:
The Infinix zero 2 is available on Jumia at a retail price of 33,000 for the 1GB VERSION .

But surprisingly u still see some dumb questions asking how much is Infinix zero 2
LOL. Well, I followed the Zero2 right from the manufacuring day and the rumored/attached price was +20K but darn I was freaking surprised wen the NG online mrk lunched a 30K & 33K price respectively. It killed my vibe: my desire for the device disapeared with no time and I felt the corruption in this part of the world is just "Too Outsanding."
however, as the OP has adviced, yall do your research well and be cautious wen buying anything online or the nrmal exchange means. #GODBlessNigeria

Kizeeto actually it's nobody's fault. That's legitimate business deal for you. it is 'businessly' right to make as much profit as you could on your sales, especially on luxury items.
Mind you some buyers don't just trust the cheaper prices! so they go for the more expensive prices of the same product.
True story my cousin wanted to buy one latest Sony Ericsson, some years back she refused to buy it when she was told it costs just 36k. She expected it to be much higher. So you see the high price might even end up attracting customers who think like that.
Besides is it your money?

If Jumia can't put in place proper corpoate governance that will guarantee buyers confidence on any items whatsoever purchased from them, thinking they av dominated the market, they should then learn from MTN (because with the NCC fine, qoute me anywhere, MTN days r numbered) they will lose the trust of the buyers and starts descending, cos then peeps will start looking at them like olx. Same goes for KONGA and others doing sharp practices. With the way young companies r beefing, queuing and smarting up to enter the market, they should just watch their back. EBay, amazon and other great merchant websites were not built dat way. One cent

While I must add that the increment in prices of goods online can be ridiculous and downright greedy, caveat emptor still applies. It's only common place to do proper research on the price of a phone before buying it. Even if you were to go to a normal retail store, I doubt if there's anyone who'll simply settle for the price he gets from the first store without comparing with others. Except you have the money to flaunt, I think it's out of ignorance that anyone would be quick to pay for a phone immediately. The blame shifts to the seller if after satisfying his greed, the product he sells turns out to be defective.

Does Jumia really sell phones at outrageous prices?
Re: Buying Gadgets Online In Nigeria? Don’t Fall Victim To This. by just2endowed: 8:19am On Nov 04, 2015
Op u are right. A simple market research can save so much money and cost rather than jumping on the price of the seller. I bought my hot note 16+2 from Jumia and I even paid for a discounted price of 23k last 3 weeks. When other seller were offering for 26 to 30k

So some people can still count up to N50,000 just to buy a smart-phone.

We're in Nigeria bro.

Remember the mega-pixel war?

So many still believe that higher mp count parallels high picture quality.

Or the Infinix better than Tecno saga.

Whereas the same company runs the two firms. sad

The problem?

Me thinks most Nigerians are rather ignorant.

My new Infinix Hot Note X551 was stolen few weeks after purchase. I was hurt and didn't want to buy an expensive phone. I had bought the 1GB Infinix for 24,000 naira at Computer Village. I only got to find out after purchase, that Infinix, Tecno and Itel are from same manufacturers. Anyway, I decided to replace my stolen phone with something cheaper, yet with a wider screen, so, I opted for Itel Inote Prime. The phone or tablet has served me well thus far. I am very happy with it. I even prefer it to the stolen Infinix because I can conveniently do my work on it. The only issue is that pictures are not sharp, but they are fair in quality. Well, I am not a picture or selfie freak. Real value for money I must confess! Conclusively, I agree with you that we may be ignorant or not fully informed in our choice of phones. We do at times, also get carried away by the hype about a particular brand.

Op...this is business. Are you suggesting they should sell at launch price?...or how much more should they increase before you shout robbery? Launch price is usually like a sale price to get people to buy the product ...then the price is raised to the intended selling price. Why not state that price as well? Sellers would price their products based on their cost to get the product to market.... supply and demand...and what customers are willing to pay. That's for any product and not phones only. It is for customers to do research if they want to get the best price. The more important thing is you get what is advertised and not a fake.

I spoke thta way cos I am a business man and I understand the intricacies of business and besides this is a business I do(E commerce) Do u know the factors involved in selling online..Do you know why people sell higher online than the normal offline tin were u come and price peoples products like akara..Am sure the op has a business he is doing and he wouldn't like people coming online to tarnish the image of a business he is involved in hereby giving people negative impressions about shopping online which has created business platforms for so many businesses..I attacked him because if critics like this are not called to order they might succeed in rubbising the image of businesses people have suffered to build..If a buyer comes online to shop..there are a variety of prices to shop from for a paricular product..Its his choice to decide if he wants to go for a higher price of the lower..And if u notice those selling cheaper would always sell more than the expensive seller..So why would you want to rubbish the image of a system because someone is selling at a price which u can choose to ignore..What makes you a good marketer is your ability to convince people to buy your product at th price you want to sell..As far as your product is in excellent condition..its left to the buyer to decide if he would buy or not..Êquote author=drehdinho post=39659579]

I didn't have choice than to just reply your ill comment. Your comment is a disappointment. Am ashamed of you. Your type are those that go all around Europe doing anything in the name of making money any which way;äs a result ,cutting down the chances of other seasoned and well meaning Nigerians. You should be in your late Thirties now(30's) by now,I guess, and your orientation is still very low, what a shame. And unfortunately, your type will open mouth to say Nigeria is not good that it's full of corruption. That Nigerian leaders are corrupt, this and that. Tell me,with the rubbish you put here as comment, do you ever think you can make this nation a better place even for yourself now and your posterity? Man, pls think like someone who is mature. Hyping price whether on online or off-line market platform, is totally bad and it should be frowned against. Don't cover for it by saying it's a market strategy. With the retail recommended price on any product. There is enough gain. Is like you don't understand that this thing will not only affect the buyers ,it will even affect the robber who call himself the seller, provided he's a Nigerian and he resides in this country.
A vice observed and pointed to public attention by a well meaning Nigeria whose life shall be filled with joy and prosperity.
Obviously, he(OP) doesn't deserve all the abuses you rained on him. Am very disappointed in you! Even a teenager will never ever have spoken the way you did.[/quote]

Am sory anyway for my harsh reply..Was just pieced off with the whole write up cos I felt that was a negative impression you were creating in the minds of millions of people who shop from us online and viewing your posts, which would give the impression that people are being exploited online..Btw accept my apology and thanks for your matured reply..Am sure u also understood where I was coming from..One love!!

Comments like this are better left unresponded to.

But:

With all due respect sir.

I did not want to "tarnish" the image of other people, that was why sellers name was not included in the screen shot.

Also did you see the part where I said I don't know who to blame (the buyer or the seller).

I think I also specified that the point of the post was to sensitize users to do a little research before placing their money.

Plus a seller making a profit of over 100%!

Haba Bros.

One last thing sir:

Thanks for sharing your views smiley

millomaniac:
But you called the seller a thief, why?
nobody forced the buyers to buy.

secondly. you do not have any right to dictate to people how much profit they should make. you do not know what led to the price increase(there might be so many reasons) besides if infinix or whatever company fix there price, how do you know you are not being ripped off. as you do not know the cost of production undecided

finally do not pretend to be nice as you are just full of hate. look at the time and energy you spent to investigate price differences of people trying to make an honest living and then making it seem as if its wrong. if you feel making small profit is the way to go... . . then good for you damn you will even get more customers but dont critisize others that have a different business idea.

people like you are actually needed to help tackle all these big corporations that monopolise the whole system and stiffle competition like DSTV etc and not attacking poor people trying to make a living in this difficult nation.

Ps: moderators should please sensibly put good things on the front page. this type of topic can easily spirral to something else. konga and jumia etc might not really be enjoying this.
