Editor’s Note: The South East and South South regions are on the throes of protest by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The group, angry over alleged marginalisation of Igbo ethnic group, wants to create a country under Biafra. They are also angry over the continued detention of Radio Biafra director, Nnamdi Kanu. The protest is still limited to the south east. But will it spread to Lagos? Like a wild bush fire in the harmattan season, the Biafra protest by the IPOB, championing a separation from Nigeria is sweeping across the South East and South-South geo-political zones. At the last count, the protest has grounded Enugu, Onitsha, Port-Harcourt, Owerri and threatening other places. In Asaba, the capital of Delta State, angry Biafra youths shut down the Niger Bridge. In Onitsha, the protest turned violent and one person was reportedly shot dead. In Port Harcourt, Governor Nyesom Wike, is a having a hell of battle containing a protest that is threatening to shut the city down. Across the world, the protesters have also demonstrated in major cities such as Paris, New Delhi and other European cities. The IPOB, a separatist movement is seeking to secede from Nigeria citing marginalization of the South East under the Buhari administration and other grievances chiefly of which is the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the Radio Biafra director. Kanu had been arrested on a visit to Nigeria from his base in London. He was seized by security operatives and had been in detention since after failing to meet stringent bail conditions set by a Nigerian court. The Biafra conundrum also has historical antecedents. The Nigerian Civil War, also known as the Biafran War of 6 July 1967 – 15 January 1970, was a war fought to counter the secession of Biafra from Nigeria. Biafra represented nationalist aspirations of the Igbo people, whose leadership felt they could no longer coexist with the Northern-dominated federal government. The conflict resulted from political, economic, ethnic, cultural and religious tensions which preceded Britain’s formal decolonization of Nigeria from 1960–1963. Immediate causes of the war in 1966 included a military coup, a counter-coup, and persecution of Igbo living in Northern Nigeria. Control over oil production in the Niger Delta played a vital strategic role. Within a year of the war, the Federal Military Government surrounded Biafra, capturing coastal oil facilities and the city of Port Harcourt. The blockade imposed during the ensuing stalemate led to severe famine—accomplished deliberately as a war strategy. Over the two and half years of the war, about two million civilians reportedly died from starvation and diseases. Over the years agitations by the Igbo ethnic stock has grown... https://www.naij.com/635070-poll-will-biafra-protests-spread-lagos.html

The question should be: will the early morning jogging exercises spread to Kano? Before they move the early morning jogging train to Lagos, they should endeavour to ask their fathers about Ore first. |

Lagos is not important in the scheme of things so a protest there has no meaning but I do know that they have IPOB in Lagos. |

They know better not to. It should be confined to their dream biafra land extent. Coming to the west of Nigeria will send a wrong signal |

Dem no born Dem well. Taking their crappy protest to Lasgidi would be the height of Igbo sensitivity, as Lagos is Yorubaland and therefore should be left out of their madness. Yee.bos may be aboriginal to the SE and SS but certainly not the SW. They had better restrict their madness to their region. And like they themselves are quick to remind us, we aren't 'brothers', so they should keep their agitation in their 'brotherly' enclave coz if Biafra is actualized (as we all hope and pray) Lagos won't be a part of it -- heck, Lagos isn't even on the circulated Biafra 'map' so make Una park well. |

ichidodo:For the sake of those 3milllions, keep your jogging exercise to your side of the country. The flogging of that garrulous and fake Eze will be nothing compared to what you will be inviting on those 3millions. There is something weird about the way y1bos use the word 3million every now and then. |

The IPOB protest should by the very reason of technicalities take place in Lagos. It is a peaceful protest and so should be held to get the maximum coverage it needs. There's nothing the various children of hate on this forum can do about it. Come to think of it; Lagos is the gate way of Nigeria and anything that happens there will be well covered by both the local and foreign media organizations. Its just a must for it to hold there. In the quest for freedom no price is too great. |

Yoruba's are funny. If a PEACEFUL protest holds on your soil in Lagos to ask for our own country so it should warrant a genocide right? I thought you guys are sophisticated, or don't you know Scottish people held a peaceful protest round Britain(on other people's land in the UK?) asking for a referendum and were they murdered? No... Kk agreed. What of if it is held in Festac Town Lagos which is a reclaimed Federal Land nko will you people kill us? My dear u are yet to see the strength of an Igbo man. Touch Ndigbo again and watch as Nigeria gets balkanized into small fragments. And this peaceful protest will happen in Abuja too and nothing will happen. You guys always claim u are advanced. Truth be told you are stuck in your culture. An advanced race or tribe cannot act the way you speak at all. I have always said it that the problem with Nigeria are our different cultures(which affect the way we perceive things). We can never move forward when we hold unto different n opposing ways of life in the name of culture. Everybody needs Jesus. He will ensure the sanctity of life will be upheld. Let your cultures be done away with and then embrace Jesus and christian culture totally. Only then can you find true peace n unity. True unity is found only in the Body Of Christ that is made up of different people from different tribes, languages, nations. etc Revelation 7 vs 9; "After this I looked, there was an enormous crowd----no man could count all the people! They were from every RACE, TRIBE, NATION and LANGUGE, and they stood in front of the throne and of the Lamb,........"(bolded emphasis are mine and excerpts from Good News Bible) It is time for the exaltation of the church(the enormous crowd in the above excerpt) to avoid all these genocides done in the name of those following cultural trends and those in other religions who use our cultural affliliations n to try to make even Christians(Yoruba n co) kill other members of the body of Christ. Yoruba Christians should decide where they belong. Do they belong to team kill members of the body of Christ from another tribe(I.e the team of Yoruba Muslims and traditionalists) or will they defend the members of the body of Christ from their Yoruba Muslim brothers and traditionalists? They should choose which one is thicker---the water of baptism or the blood of family and they should stand and defend even against their Muslim brothers and traditional sisters as long as the protests remain peaceful. Remember what will it profit you guys(Yoruba Christians) if you wipe out or allow yourselves to be used to wipe out Igbo Christians only for you to be traumatized by your own Muslim brothers and Northern Muslims. My belief system is that it is mainly Yoruba Muslims and traditionalists that would want to gladly see a genocide happen(cos they got nothing to loose). Someone in the body of Christ cannot ask for the death of another christian not from his tribe. |
