The House of Representatives Committee on Works has said
the federal government owes over N300 billion to its
contractors.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Toby Okechukwu,
revealed this during the inaugural meeting yesterday where
he added that most contracts for Nigerian roads are hardly
funded after the contract has been issued.
This, he noted, usually resulted in escalated contract price
revisions
“We have major arterial roads that lead to major cities,
intrastate roads, inter zone roads, all these should receive
attention....the earlier we begin to address funding deficit,
the better for us,” he said.
Okechukwu added that the committee would propose bills
that would consider alternative funding particularly for
roads.
